16 χρόνια αδικίας για Πέντε Κουβανούς αγωνιστές

“Στις 12 Σεπτέμβρη συμπληρώνονται 16 χρόνια από τη σύλληψη των Χεράρδο Ερνάντες, Ραμόν Λαμπανίνο, Αντόνιο Γκερέρο, Φερνάντο Γκονσάλες και Ρενέ Γκονσάλες στο Μαϊάμι της Φλόριδας. Οι “Πέντε Κουβανοί” (γνωστοί ως Cinco Heroes ή Cuban Five) είχαν σταλεί από τις αρχές της χώρας τους για να συγκεντρώσουν στοιχεία για τρομοκρατικές οργανώσεις με έδρα την πολιτεία της Φλόριδας, οι οποίες κατά τη δεκαετία του '90 ιδιαίτερα, είχαν οργανώσει και εκτελέσει πολυάριθμες τρομοκρατικές επιθέσεις σε κουβανικό έδαφος, με πάνω από 5.500 θύματα, νεκρούς και ακρωτηριασμένους.”

“Μετά την διάλυση του σοσιαλιστικού μπλοκ στις αρχές της δεκαετίας του 1990, η Κούβα υποχρεώθηκε να στηριχτεί στον τουρισμό της για να ενισχύσει το εθνικό της εισόδημα. Για να υπονομεύσουν αυτή την προσπάθεια οικονομικής επιβίωσης του νησιού της Καραϊβικής, οι ακροδεξιές οργανώσεις με έδρα το Μαϊάμι (Alpha 66, F4 Commandos, Cuban American NationalFoundation, Brothers to the Rescue κ.α.) οργάνωσαν και εκτέλεσαν δεκάδες τρομοκρατικές επιθέσεις σε ξενοδοχεία, αεροδρόμια και άλλες εγκαταστάσεις με εκατοντάδες θύματα, κουβανούς πολίτες κύρια αλλά και ξένους, με πιο γνωστή την περίπτωση του Ιταλού Φάμπιο ντι Τσέλμο που σκοτώθηκε έξω από το ξενοδοχείο Κοπακαμπάνα. Για να αντιμετωπίσει αυτή την απειλή, η κουβανική κυβέρνηση έστειλε στη Φλόριδα τους Ερνάντες, Λαμπανίνο, Γκερέρο, Φ. Γκονσάλες και Ρ. Γκονσάλες, για να διεισδύσουν σ' αυτές τις οργανώσεις, “στελεχομένες” από αντικαθεστωτικούς κουβανούς αλλά και κοινούς εγκληματίες της τοπικής μαφίας, με σκοπό να συγκεντρώσουν στοιχεία και να αποτρέψουν μελλοντικές επιθέσεις.”

“Το 1998 ο Φιντέλ Κάστρο έστειλε προσωπική επιστολή στον (τότε) πρόεδρο Μπιλ Κλίντον, με κομιστή το νομπελίστα συγγραφέα Γκαμπριέλ Γκαρσία Μάρκες. Στην επιστολή αυτή ζητούσε την παρέμβαση του ομολόγου του για να συλληφθούν οι τρομοκράτες και πρόσφερε τη συνεργασία των κουβανικών αρχών γι' αυτό το σκοπό. Λίγο αργότερα, κλιμάκιο του FBI έφτασε στην Κούβα και παρέλαβε 64 φακέλους με στοιχεία για 31 τρομοκρατικές υποθέσεις που έγιναν στο νησί. Παρόλα αυτά, αντί να συλληφθούν οι τρομοκράτες, λίγους μήνες μετά παγιδεύτηκαν και παραπέμφθηκαν σε δίκη οι άνθρωποι που, με κίνδυνο της ίδιας της ζωής τους, έδωσαν μάχη κατά της τρομοκρατίας: Οι Πέντε Κουβανοί πατριώτες.”
