Ομπάμα-Ρόμνεϊ ντιμπέϊτ Νο2 : Άλλη μια σκηνοθετημένη παρωδία

O δεύτερος εθνικός τηλεοπτικός διάλογος μεταξύ του προέδρου Μπαράκ Ομπάμα και του Ρεπουμπλικανού αντιπάλου του Μιτ Ρόμνεϊ, εξυπηρέτησε μόνο στο να υπογραμμίσει την υποκρισία και την εξαπάτηση που διαποτίζουν ολόκληρη την εκλογική διαδικασία.

Δύο εκπρόσωποι της επιχειρηματικής-χρηματοοικονομικής ελίτ που κυβερνά την Αμερική, ξόδεψαν σχεδόν δύο ώρες προσπαθώντας να προβληθούν ως οπαδοί του απλού ανθρώπου σε μια καλά σκηνοθετημένη παραγωγή. Ήταν οδυνηρό να το βλέπει κανείς και έπρεπε να προσπαθήσει πολύ για να μείνει ξύπνιος.

Όπως έχει γίνει ο κανόνας στην αμερικανική πολιτική, ήταν ένα «ντιμπέϊτ» χωρίς καμία συζήτηση ή ουσία, ένα κουρασμένο και άδειο τελετουργικό που σχεδιάστηκε για να αποκρύψει την αλήθεια και να δώσει στο κοινό χλωροφόρμιο.

Κάθε πτυχή της εκδήλωσης ήταν ενορχηστρωμένη και είχε ελεγχθεί. Το αποκαλούμενο "δημαρχειακό" περιβάλλον δεν είχε τίποτα να κάνει με ένα πραγματικό δούναι και λαβείν με τους απλούς ανθρώπους. Οι 82 άνθρωποι που κάθονταν στη σκηνή με τον Ομπάμα και τον Ρόμνεϊ είχαν επιλεγεί από την Gallup, την εταιρεία δημοσκοπήσεων, μέσα από τους λεγόμενους «αναποφάσιστους ψηφοφόρους" που κατοικούν στο Hempstead, περιοχή του Long Island, όπου διεξήχθη η συζήτηση.

Μετά από μια πρόβα το πρωί της εκδήλωσης, οι 82 – διαλεγμένοι δια χειρός – ψηφοφόροι, υπέβαλλαν τις ερωτήσεις τους στην συντονίστρια, Candy Crowley του CNN, η οποία στη συνέχεια αποφάσισε ποια ερωτήματα θα υποβάλλονταν επιλέγοντας ποιοι από τους 82 θα μιλούσαν. Τα μικρόφωνα των ανθρώπων που έκαναν τις ερωτήσεις έκλειναν αυτόματα αμέσως μετά την υποβολή του ερωτήματος.

Και οι δύο υποψήφιοι επικαλέστηκαν τελετουργικά την Αμερικανική "μεσαία τάξη", η οποία έχει σε μεγάλο βαθμό εξαφανιστεί, καθώς εκατομμύρια έχουν περάσει στις κατηγορίες της εργατικής τάξης της οποίας την ύπαρξη κανένας υποψήφιος δεν αναγνώρισε. Δήλωσαν επανειλημμένα τη δέσμευσή τους για την βελτίωση της θέσης της «μεσαίας τάξης», αποκρύπτοντας τα σχέδια που εκπονήθηκαν από τους Δημοκρατικούς και Ρεπουμπλικάνους για μετά τις εκλογές, να περικόψουν δραστικά, βασικά κοινωνικά προγράμματα από τα οποία εξαρτώνται δεκάδες εκατομμύρια άνθρωποι.

Κανένας υποψήφιος δεν εξέτασε σοβαρά την καταστροφική κατάσταση της Αμερικανικής κοινωνίας που πλανάται στο παρασκήνιο. O Ρόμνεϊ ανέφερε την αύξηση της φτώχειας και την συνεχιζόμενη μαζική ανεργία μόνο ως επιχειρήματα κατά του αξιωματούχου. Ο Ομπάμα ποτέ δεν τα αναγνώρισε.

Ένας βασικός σκοπός του θεάματος, ήταν να δημιουργήσει την ψευδαίσθηση ότι υπάρχουν θεμελειώδεις διαφορές στις πολιτικές μεταξύ των δύο υποψηφίων και των κομμάτων τους, ενώ δεν υπάρχει καμμία. Οι πολιτικές διαφορές μεταξύ Δημοκρατικών και Ρεπουμπλικάνων αντανακλούν δευτερεύουσες διαφορές τακτικής εντός της κυρίαρχης ολιγαρχίας.

Η πρώτη ερώτηση και οι απαντήσεις των υποψηφίων έδωσαν το στίγμα για τη συνέχεια της βραδιάς. Ένας 20χρονος φοιτητής είπε ότι τον είχαν πει ότι είχε λίγες πιθανότητες να βρει δουλειά μετά την αποφοίτησή του και ρώτησε τι θα μπορούσαν να του πουν οι υποψήφιοι για να τον διαβεβαιώσουν ότι θα είναι σε θέση να στηρίξει τον εαυτό του.

Ο Ρόμνεϊ δήλωσε ότι γνώριζε “τι χρειάζεται για να δημιουργηθούν νέες θέσεις εργασίας ξανά” χωρίς να αναφέρεται σε καμμία λεπτομέρεια. Ο Ομπάμα ξεκίνησε λέγοντας “Το μέλλον σου είναι λαμπρό”. Στη συνέχεια εκθείασε το γεγονός ότι διέσωσε την General Motors και την Chrysler, υποστηρίζοντας ότι διέσωσε 1 εκατομμύριο θέσεις εργασίας, χωρίς να αναφερθεί στις βάρβαρες περικοπές στους μισθούς και στα επιδόματα που επέβαλε στους εργαζόμενους.

Κανείς από τους δύο δεν μπορούσε να διαθέσει οποιεσδήποτε πολιτικές ώστε να αντιμετωπίσει την καταστροφική κατάσταση που βιώνουν οι νέοι άνθρωποι και οι φοιτητές.

Όταν η Crowley τους ζήτησε να πουν πως θα αντιμετωπίσουν τα δεινά του 40 τοις εκατό των ανέργων χωρίς δουλειά για πάνω από έξι μήνες, και οι δύο σιώπησαν απέναντι στο δικομματικό νομοσχέδιο που πέρασαν τον περασμένο Φεβρουάριο ώστε να μειώσουν τη διάρκεια των επιδομάτων ανεργίας και τα σχέδιά τους να τερματίσουν τις ευρείες παροχές ανεργίας συνολικά την 1η Ιανουαρίου.

Η συνέχεια της συζήτησης – που παρουσιάστηκε από τα ΜΜΕ σαν μια διαμάχη μεταξύ δραστικά διαφορετικών “οραμάτων” για το μέλλον – χαρακτηρίστηκε κυρίως από τη βασική συμφωνία των δύο υποψηφίων: την επίθεση στους μετανάστες, το άνοιγμα των δημοσίων εκτάσεων στις εταιρίες ενέργειας, φοροαπαλλαγές για τις εταιρίες, τους πολέμους στο εξωτερικό, την “μεταρρύθμιση” (δηλαδή ιδιωτικοποίηση) της δημόσιας παιδείας, και άλλα θέματα.

H πιο σημαντική στιγμή ήρθε στο τέλος, όταν ο Ομπάμα, συνοψίζοντας το “όραμά” του για την Αμερική, αποκήρυξε οποιοδήποτε κυβερνητικό πρόγραμμα για την δημιουργία θέσεων εργασίας και αφιέρωσε τον καθιερωμένο του πανηγυρισμό στον καπιταλισμό: “Πιστεύω ότι το σύστημα της ελεύθερης επιχειρηματικότητας είναι η μεγαλύτερη κινητήρια δύναμη ευημερίας που έχει γνωρίσει ποτέ ο κόσμος”.

Αυτό αντανακλάται στην επαναλαμβανόμενη επιμονή του Ρόμνεϊ ότι η θεραπεία για όλα τα κοινωνικά δεινά είναι να γίνουν οι Ηνωμένες Πολιτείες το πιο ελκυστικό μέρος για τις επιχειρήσεις για να βγάλουν λεφτά.

Δεν υπήρχε ούτε μία αξιοσημείωτη δήλωση, ή ειλικρινής ή αυθεντική σκέψη. Και δεν θα μπορούσε να υπάρξει σε μια τόσο προσεκτικά κατασκευασμένη διαδικασία χειραγώγησης και εξαπάτησης.
