As Bernie drops nomination, progressives are left with only one political option: the Green Party

globinfo freexchange

It was almost inevitable under current circumstances. Bernie Sanders announced that he drops nomination for the Democratic Party leadership, opening the road for another disastrous Trump term.

Furthermore, it seems that Bernie ignored the call from the Greens to join and lead the party, bringing on board the growing progressive movement that includes millions of his supporters. Howie Hawkins has offered Bernie Sanders the nomination for the Green Party to run in the Presidential race in 2020 against Donald Trump and Joe Biden.

One more time, the Greens called Bernie to take the lead, as Jill Stein also did, back in 2016. And this is a good indication that people in the Green Party are authentic progressives who put aside their personal political ambitions. And their first priority, as it seems, is to give a political platform to the progressive movement.

Yet, Bernie actually retreated again, as he did back in 2016, when he fully supported Hillary Clinton. And the DNC establishment declared another victory over progressives. But we know what finally happened in 2016: Trump.

As he said in his announcement:

Let me say this very emphatically. As you all know, we have never been just a campaign. We are a grass-roots, multiracial, multigenerational movement which has always believed that real change never comes from the top on down, but always from the bottom on up. We have taken on Wall Street, the insurance companies, the drug companies, the fossil fuel industry, the military-industrial complex, the prison-industrial complex, and the greed of the entire corporate elite. That struggle continues. [...] On a practical note, let me also say this: I will stay on the ballot in all remaining states and continue to gather delegates. While Vice President Biden will be the nominee, we must continue working to assemble as many delegates as possible at the Democratic convention, where we will be able to exert significant influence over the party platform and other functions.

Well, the reality is that the power of the movement got wasted when Bernie and the other progressives couldn't stand against the awful bill that has been passed, supposedly to deal with the pandemic crisis. Because what we saw again, was an insane amount of money given to the banking/corporate mafia and less than peanuts to the US working class.

In the midst of such a major crisis, when millions of Americans are losing their jobs and they don't know if they will be able to secure basics tomorrow, progressives didn't manage to bring any substantial change. The establishment imposed the "business as usual" agenda.

And it was inevitable. You can't bring any substantial change while being tied to the monstrous DNC machine. We were screaming about this at least since 2016, when it was revealed that the DNC played dirty against Bernie Sanders.

And now, to call progressives follow him again under these circumstances in order to support someone like Biden, is completely dishonest by Bernie. Because he knows (and everybody knows), that the neoliberal "dinosaur" Biden won't do anything to change things. And moreover, he knows (and everybody knows), that Biden will lose to Trump, hands down. If there was a doubt with Hillary back in 2016, now it is almost certain.

You can't have real change within the Democratic Party. The progressive movement should not get attached politically to it because eventually, the DNC monstrous mechanism will swallow it and digest it.

And if you don't believe us, check out what Bernie himself was saying in the past: "My own view, and has been my view for many, many years, is that what we need in this country, is what Jackson calls a 'Rainbow Coalition', but it has to be done outside of the Democratic Party."

We should thank Bernie for his significant contribution on strengthening the progressive movement, but the movement needs now an independent platform in order to survive politically. The only option right now, prior to the 2020 presidential election, is the Green Party. The Greens have made their invitation and progressive voters should join massively the party:

And if the young progressives like Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and Ilhan Omar really want to bring substantial change, should also join the Greens. In the end, they won't survive politically inside the DNC corporate snake-nest, anyway.

Capitalism & Genocide - Yanis Varoufakis Speech at the Gaza Tribunal, 23rd October 2025, Istanbul

Yanis Varoufakis   On 23rd October, Yanis Varoufakis testified in front of the Jury of Conscience in the context of the Gaza Tribunal. His speech focused on the economic forces underpinning the genocide of the Palestinian people. In particular, he spoke on the manner in which capitalist dynamics have historically fuelled the white settler colonial project and, more recently, how the accumulation of a new form of capital - which he calls cloud capital - has accelerated, deepened and amplified the economic forces powering and propelling the machinery of genocide.

A response to misinformation on Nicaragua: it was a coup, not a ‘massacre’

There is so much misinformation in mainstream corporate media about recent events in Nicaragua that it is a pity that Mary Ellsberg’s article for Pulse has added to it with a seemingly leftish critique. Ellsberg claims that recent articles, including from this website, often “ paint a picture of the crisis in Nicaragua that is dangerously misleading. ” Unfortunately, her own article does just that. It looks at the situation entirely from the perspective of those opposing Daniel Ortega’s government while whitewashing their malevolent behavior and downplaying the levels of US support they have relied on. Her piece is an incomplete depiction of what is happening on the ground, ignoring many salient facts that have come to light and which have been outdated by recent events. The following is a brief response to Ellsberg’s main points from someone who lives in Nicaragua and has observed the situation directly and intimately: https://grayzoneproject.com/2018/08/15/a-res...

Munich Shock: Rubio’s Vision of a New Western Century & World Order

GVS Deep Dive   At the 2026 Munich Security Conference, U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio delivered one of the most consequential foreign policy speeches of the year. Framed as a call for Western renewal, his address went far beyond NATO reassurance — outlining a vision of sovereignty, industrial consolidation, and civilizational confidence that may signal the end of the post-Cold War global order.   Is this the beginning of a Second Cold War?   Is the West reorganizing around bloc competition?   Or are we witnessing the construction of a new world order?

Stephen Hawking confirms: The problem is Capitalism, not robots!

globinfo freexchange According to world famous physicist Stephen Hawking, the rising use of automated machines may mean the end of human rights – not just jobs. But he’s not talking about robots with artificial intelligence taking over the world, he’s talking about the current capitalist political system and its major players. On Reddit, Hawking said that the economic gap between the rich and the poor will continue to grow as more jobs are automated by machines, and the owners of said machines hoard them to create more wealth for themselves. The insatiable thirst for capitalist accumulation bestowed upon humans by years of lies and terrible economic policy has affected technology in such a way that one of its major goals has become to replace human jobs. If we do not take this warning seriously, we may face unfathomable corporate domination. If we let the same people who buy and sell our political system and resources maintain control of automated technology, the...
