Ένα νέο κραχ θα είναι κερδοφόρο για την ολιγαρχία

Παρ’ όλες τις προειδοποιήσεις για ένα νέο κραχ των αγορών, καμία κυβέρνηση, τράπεζα ή διεθνής οργανισμός δεν λαμβάνει αποτελεσματικά μέτρα για να το αντιμετωπίσει. Η δικαιολογία είναι ότι το διεθνές χρηματοπιστωτικό σύστημα έχει γίνει τόσο πολύπλοκο, ώστε κανείς δεν γνωρίζει πώς θα αποφευχθεί μια νέα κρίση.

Όμως πολλές πρόσφατες εξελίξεις στις αγορές και οι αντιφατικές συμβουλές και δηλώσεις των ιθυνόντων εξηγούνται μόνο εάν κάποιοι προσπαθούν να επωφεληθούν από μία κατάρρευση των αγορών, και αποβλέπουν σε ένα γιγαντιαίο «σορτάρισμα».

Όταν οι αγορές ανεβαίνουν, συσσωρεύονται κέρδη λόγω της αυξημένης αξίας των μετοχών και άλλων χρηματοπιστωτικών προϊόντων. Όμως οι επενδυτές μπορούν να ποντάρουν και σε πτώση των αγορών και των αξιών των μετοχών, με το λεγόμενο σορτάρισμα.

Πολύ απλοποιημένα, το σορτάρισμα δουλεύει ως εξής: ένας επενδυτής δανείζεται μετοχές από ένα χρηματιστή, ποντάροντας ότι η τιμή τους θα πέσει. Οι μετοχές πωλούνται και ο λογαριασμός του επενδυτή πιστώνεται ανάλογα. Μετά από ένα χρονικό διάστημα, ο επενδυτής πρέπει να επιστρέψει τις δανεισμένες μετοχές στο χρηματιστή. Εφόσον η τιμή τους έχει πέσει στο διάστημα που μεσολάβησε, ο επενδυτής θα έχει κέρδος ανάλογο με την πτώση της τιμής των μετοχών. Πώς γίνεται; It’s the virtual economy, stupid!

Η κερδοφόρα πτυχή ενός κραχ

Στο σημερινό καπιταλισμό ακόμα και ένα κραχ των αγορών μπορεί να αποφέρει κέρδος. Πρώτον, η κάλυψη των απωλειών από κρατικά κονδύλια είναι πλέον δεδομένη. Οι ζημιές των περισσότερων τραπεζών το 2008 καλύφθηκαν από κρατικά κονδύλια. Κάτι παρόμοιο γίνεται για κάθε μη αμελητέα πτώση των αγορών, μέσω της «ποσοτικής χαλάρωσης» και παρεμφερών επεμβάσεων. Η ΕΚΤ, η Τράπεζα της Αγγλίας, το αμερικανικό Federal Reserve, ή η Λαϊκή Τράπεζα της Κίνας, ρίχνουν τεράστια ποσά στις αντίστοιχες αγορές και αγοράζουν μετοχές και ομόλογα για να ανακάμψουν τα χρηματιστήρια.

Οι μεγάλες τράπεζες και τα μεγάλα επενδυτικά ιδρύματα γνωρίζουν καλά τι θα κάνουν όταν βρεθούν μπροστά σε ένα νέο κραχ: θα προσφύγουν και πάλι στην κεντρική τράπεζα του κράτους τους, η οποία θα τα υποστηρίξει εκ νέου, με τη δικαιολογία ότι είναι «too big to fail», όπως και το 2008.

Δεύτερον, οι μεγάλο-επενδυτές ξέρουν πώς να κατευθύνουν τις αγορές, πώς να ποντάρουν σε μια νέα κρίση, και πώς να την εκμεταλλευθούν. Συνεπώς δεν πρέπει να προκαλεί έκπληξη το γεγονός ότι οι προειδοποιήσεις για το επερχόμενο κραχ δεν προέρχονται μόνο από «καλοπροαίρετους» αναλυτές που ανησυχούν για την οικονομία, αλλά και από μεγάλο-επενδυτές που δεν θα περίμενε κανείς να διατυμπανίζουν ότι πλησιάζει μια νέα κρίση.

Ακόμα και αν ένα κραχ είναι αναπόφευκτο λόγω της φούσκας της διεθνούς οικονομίας, η χρονική στιγμή και ο τρόπος με τον οποίο θα επέλθει μπορούν να επηρεαστούν μέσω στοχευμένων επεμβάσεων στις αγορές. Τα ποσά που χρειάζονται για ένα ανάλογο σορτάρισμα των αγορών είναι τεράστια. Τα hedge funds, που έχουν στη διάθεση τους συνολικά πάνω από 2 τρισ. δολάρια, κατέχουν πρωτεύουσα θέση ανάμεσα στους συνήθεις ύποπτους για επεμβάσεις τέτοιου μεγέθους.

Αντιφατικές δράσεις και δηλώσεις

Αρκετές πρόσφατες εξελίξεις υποδεικνύουν ότι κάτι «μαγειρεύεται» στις αγορές. Την πρώτη εβδομάδα του Ιανουαρίου, ορισμένα hedge funds και εταιρείες, μέσω μόνο μίας αμερικανικής τράπεζας έκαναν τη μεγαλύτερη επένδυση τους στις ΗΠΑ από το 2010, σε μετοχές συνολικής αξίας 3 δισ. δολαρίων.

Τον Αύγουστο η κινεζική κυβέρνηση απαγόρευσε το σορτάρισμα και τη λειτουργία ορισμένων hedge funds στις αγορές της Κίνας. Βέβαια οι Κινέζοι πλουτοκράτες που έβγαλαν περίπου ένα τρισ. δολάρια από την Κίνα μέσα στο 2015 σόρταραν την κινεζική αγορά με έμμεσο τρόπο. Τα χρήματα αυτά δεν επενδύθηκαν σε άλλες αγορές, αλλά σε καταθέσεις και σε υπερπολυτελή ακίνητα στο Λονδίνο και στις ΗΠΑ.

Τον Ιανουάριο διεθνείς τράπεζες προειδοποίησαν τους επενδυτές να ξεπουλήσουν τα πάντα γιατί επέρχεται κραχ. Όμως αυτές οι προειδοποιήσεις εξυπηρετούν όσους σκοπεύουν να αγοράσουν τις «ξεπουλημένες» μετοχές φτηνά, και να περιμένουν μια προσωρινή ανάκαμψη στα χρηματιστήρια για να «σορτάρουν» την αγορά και να εισπράξουν αργότερα, μόλις γίνει το κραχ.

Οι διάφοροι Κροίσοι της διεθνούς οικονομίας προέτρεπαν τους επενδυτές στο φετινό Φόρουμ στο Νταβός να μην επενδύουν τα χρήματα τους και τις κεντρικές τράπεζες να μην επεμβαίνουν στην οικονομία. Όμως δεν εξήγησαν γιατί τα τελευταία οκτώ χρόνια δεν παραπονέθηκαν καθόλου για τις επεμβάσεις των κεντρικών τραπεζών από τις οποίες θησαύριζαν και γιατί πιστεύουν σήμερα πως χωρίς νέες επενδύσεις και κρατικές επεμβάσεις οι αγορές θα ανακάμψουν.

Οι στόχοι της σκόπιμης σύγχυσης

Το 2008 οι ιθύνοντες έβλεπαν τη φούσκα, δεν έκαναν τίποτα για να αποτρέψουν την κρίση, και βγήκαν κερδισμένοι. Το 2016 φαίνονται να είναι καλλίτερα προετοιμασμένοι, και να θολώνουν σκόπιμα τα νερά, για να βγάλουν ακόμα περισσότερα από την επόμενη κρίση.

Ένας περίεργος πόλεμος εντυπώσεων έχει ήδη ξεκινήσει, για παράδειγμα με το μεγάλο-επενδυτή George Soros να δηλώνει ότι ποντάρει στην πτώση των ασιατικών νομισμάτων και την κινεζική κυβέρνηση να απαντά ότι κάθε κίνηση ενάντια στο νόμισμά της θα αποτύχει.

Ένας πιο πιθανός στόχος για σορτάρισμα είναι η Ευρωζώνη, καθώς το ευρώ, με τις περιπλοκές του προσφυγικού και του Brexit, γίνεται ολοένα και πιο εύκολη λεία. Όποιος και να είναι ο στόχος, θα πρέπει να υπάρξει πρώτα μια μη αμελητέα άνοδος των αγορών, πάνω στην οποία θα στηριχτεί ένα σορτάρισμα και η επακόλουθη πτώση.

Όταν παρατηρηθεί μια τέτοια άνοδος και ακολούθως πτώση στις αγορές, ας μην φανεί παράξενο αν πίσω από την καρφίτσα που θα τρυπήσει τη φούσκα της διεθνούς οικονομίας κρύβεται ένα γιγαντιαίο σορτάρισμα.
