Φάκελος Κύπρου: Οι Χουντικοί γνώριζαν για την εισβολή και έκαναν διακοπές

Μέρος 4ο - “Δεν έχουμε ψωμί, δεν έχουμε γαλέτα, δεν έχουμε όπλα!”: Από τη Γενική Επιστράτευση στην Εκεχειρία

Η αργοπορημένη απόφαση των Χουντικών για γενική επιστράτευση στην Ελλάδα, η οποία αποφασίστηκε στις 20.7.1974, μετέφερε το χάος που δημιούργησαν στην Κύπρο και εντός της Ελλάδας. Χαρακτηριστικές είναι οι φράσεις που ακούγονταν από τους επίστρατους Έλληνες στρατιώτες: “Δεν έχουμε ψωμί, δεν έχουμε γαλέτα, δεν έχουμε όπλα!” Σύμφωνα με τον στρατηγό Σιαπκαρά: “οι επίστρατοι μπουκάρανε στις αποθήκες της επιστράτευσης”.

Από την πλευρά του ο Πολίτης κατέθεσε ότι “γέμισαν οι μονάδες επιστράτευσης από αυτοκίνητα και από ανθρώπους που ήθελαν να πάνε να πολεμήσουν και δεν μπορούσαν ούτε να τους ντύσουν”. Σε κάποιες άλλες περιπτώσεις οι επίστρατοι, ακόμη και σε παραμεθόριες μονάδες, αντί για όπλα και πυρομαχικά έβρισκαν στα κιβώτια των στρατιωτικών αποθηκών πέτρες! Οι φήμες έλεγαν πως δεν τους εξόπλιζαν διότι η Χούντα φοβότανε πως οι επίστρατοι θα έκαναν ένοπλη εξέγερση κατά του καθεστώτος. Σύμφωνα τέλος με την άποψη της ΚΥΠ η επιστράτευση “επιεικώς μπορεί να χαρακτηρισθεί ως ‘μωρία’” (Τσουμής), με άλλα λόγια άλλη μια ανοησία της Χούντας που απέτυχε.

Στο μεταξύ αργά το βράδυ της 20ής Ιουλίου το Σ. Α. του ΟΗΕ ενέκρινε ομόφωνα ψήφισμα με το οποίο ζητούσε την άμεση κατάπαυση του πυρός και την απομάκρυνση όλων των ξένων στρατευμάτων από την Κύπρο, που βρίσκονταν εκεί παρά τα διεθνή σύμφωνα (αρ. 353).

Στη προσύσκεψη που έγινε από τους Χουντικούς το πρωί της ίδιας ημέρας “μπούκαραν” χωρίς προειδοποίηση και αναγγελία οι Αμερικανοί Σίσκο (υφυπουργός Εξωτερικών), Έλσγουωρ (υφυπουργός Εθνικής Άμυνας), Τάσκα πρέσβης στην Αθήνα και Μάρντερ (στρατιωτικός ακόλουθος), ζητώντας επίμονα ΑΥΤΟΣΥΓΚΡΑΤΗΣΗ ώστε να αποφευχθεί Ελληνο-τουρκικός πόλεμος.

Ήταν άλλωστε η εποχή που η εξωτερική (και εν μέρει και η εσωτερική) πολιτική της Ελλάδας του βαθέως “κράτους της Δεξιάς” αποφασιζόταν σχεδόν εξ ολοκλήρου από την Αμερικανική πρεσβεία της Αθήνας. Σε μια έκρηξη οργής ο Ιωαννίδης φώναξε προς τους Αμερικανούς “μας εξαπατήσατε!” και και κινούμενος προς την έξοδο είπε: “εμείς θα κηρύξουμε πόλεμο!”

Στο Πολεμικό Συμβούλιο που ακολούθησε ακούστηκαν συνθήματα για πόλεμο, Ένωση κλπ. Ενώ ο Ιωαννίδης πρότεινε ανοικτά μια αποτυχημένη μπλόφα της Χούντας: “Να αναγγείλουμε ότι θα κάνουμε την Ένωση της Κύπρου με την Ελλάδα, αλλά δεν θα την κάνουμε, θα το πούμε αυτό για να εκφοβίσουμε τους Τούρκους, για να τους δείξουμε την αποφασιστικότητά μας (...) Πηγαίνετε πέστε εμείς κάνουμε επιστράτευση μπήκαμε στον πόλεμο τώρα, ό,τι βγάλει ο τόπος”. (Κατσαδήμας, σ.58).

Βέβαια η κατάσταση και στο εσωτερικό της Ελλάδας ήταν τραγική, όπως έδειξε και το χάος που δημιούργησε η γενική επιστράτευση, οπότε η κατάπαυση του πυρός και η ανακωχή ήταν η μόνη λύση που συνέφερε τους Χουντικούς αλλά και γι' αυτό πόνταραν στον αμερικανικό παράγοντα και ειδικά στον Κίσιντζερ.

A response to misinformation on Nicaragua: it was a coup, not a ‘massacre’

There is so much misinformation in mainstream corporate media about recent events in Nicaragua that it is a pity that Mary Ellsberg’s article for Pulse has added to it with a seemingly leftish critique. Ellsberg claims that recent articles, including from this website, often “ paint a picture of the crisis in Nicaragua that is dangerously misleading. ” Unfortunately, her own article does just that. It looks at the situation entirely from the perspective of those opposing Daniel Ortega’s government while whitewashing their malevolent behavior and downplaying the levels of US support they have relied on.
