Βενεζουέλα: Οι ΗΠΑ αποκάλυψαν (κατά λάθος) το ρόλο τους στο πραξικόπημα

Λίγες μέρες πριν από την τελευταία απόπειρα πραξικοπήματος στη Βενεζουέλα, το Στέιτ Ντιπάρτμεντ είχε δημοσιεύσει έγγραφο που αποκαλύπτει την εμπλοκή των ΗΠΑ στις εξελίξεις στη χώρα. Στη συνέχεια το έγγραφο διαγράφηκε, όπως αποκαλύπτει η ιστοσελίδα The Grayzone.

Στις 24 Απριλίου, μόλις έξι μέρες πριν από την απόπειρα του αυτοανακηρυχθέντα προέδρου Χουάν Γκουαϊδό να ανατρέψει τη δημοκρατικά εκλεγμένη κυβέρνηση της Βενεζουέλας, το Στέιτ Ντιπάρτμεντ είχε δημοσιεύσει πληροφοριακό δελτίο, στο οποίο περηφανευόταν για τον καίριο ρόλο της Ουάσινγκτον στις απόπειρες πραξικοπήματος. Όταν οι υπεύθυνοι συνειδητοποίησαν ότι το έγγραφο θα μπορούσε να έχει ενοχοποιητικό χαρακτήρα, έσπευσαν να διαγράψουν τη σελίδα με τις σχετικές πληροφορίες.

Η ομάδα του The Grayzone κατάφερε να αποκτήσει και να φέρει ξανά στη δημοσιότητα το έγγραφο. Η σελίδα του εγγράφου που διαγράφηκε διαψεύδει κάθε ισχυρισμό του Χουάν Γκουαϊδό για ανεξαρτησία του από την Ουάσινγκτον. Και αυτό γιατί το Στέιτ Ντιπάρτμεντ έχει εντάξει πρώτη την πληροφορία της αυτο-ανακήρυξης του Γκουαϊδό ως προέδρου της χώρας σε μία ενότητα που αναλύει τα σημαντικότερα αποτελέσματα των προσπαθειών των ΗΠΑ όσον αφορά τη Βενεζουέλα.

Το έγγραφο είχε τίτλο «Δράσεις των ΗΠΑ στη Βενεζουέλα». Το συνολικό περιεχόμενό του ήταν ένας απολογισμός της πολιτικής των ΗΠΑ σχετικά με τη Βενεζουέλα. Οι συντάκτες του πληροφοριακού δελτίου υπερηφανεύονται για την αποτελεσματική παρεμπόδιση της συμμετοχής της κυβέρνησης της Βενεζουέλας στη διεθνή αγορά, αλλά και το πάγωμα των περιουσιακών στοιχείων της χώρας στο εξωτερικό.

Όπως επισημαίνουν οι συντάκτες του The Grayzone, το έγγραφο έμοιαζε με ένα σαδιστικό εορτασμό της τιμωρητικής στάσης που τηρεί η Ουάσινγκτον απέναντι στο σύνολο του λαού της Βενεζουέλας, ενός είδους συλλογικής ποινής που είναι παράνομη, με βάση το άρθρο 33 των Συμβάσεων της Γενεύης.

Συγκεκριμένα, το Στέιτ Ντιπάρτμεντ τόνιζε στο έγγραφο ότι η πολιτικές των ΗΠΑ έκαναν την κυβέρνηση Μαδούρο να μην μπορεί να βασιστεί στο οικονομικό σύστημα των ΗΠΑ για την επιχειρηματική της δραστηριότητα. Επεσήμανε επίσης ότι ανάμεσα στα σημαντικά αποτελέσματα της δράσης των ΗΠΑ είναι το γεγονός ότι «σχεδόν 3,2 δισεκατομμύρια δολάρια από την περιουσία της Βενεζουέλας στο εξωτερικό πάγωσαν», ενώ η παραγωγή πετρελαίου μειώθηκε σημαντικά το Μάρτιο και συνεχίζει να μειώνεται.

Πρόσφατη έκθεση των οικονομολόγων Μαρκ Βάισμπροτ και Τζέφρι Σακς έδειξε ότι οι αμερικανικές κυρώσεις έχουν προκαλέσει τουλάχιστον 40.000 θανάτους από το 2017 στη Βενεζουέλα.

A response to misinformation on Nicaragua: it was a coup, not a ‘massacre’

There is so much misinformation in mainstream corporate media about recent events in Nicaragua that it is a pity that Mary Ellsberg’s article for Pulse has added to it with a seemingly leftish critique. Ellsberg claims that recent articles, including from this website, often “ paint a picture of the crisis in Nicaragua that is dangerously misleading. ” Unfortunately, her own article does just that.
