Establishment's attempt to promote the hardcore neoliberal Kamala Harris up to the presidency through the back door

Rumours spread around the mainstream quickly on July, 28, when Politico "accidentally[?] published a report that Biden picked Harris as his running mate. The outlet quickly deleted the report, and said it was published by mistake. "For a brief period yesterday afternoon, placeholder text was mistakenly published to the site," Brad Dayspring, Politico's vice president of marketing and communications, told The Hill."

How did that happen? 

Was that indeed a big blunder by the establishment machine? Or, was a deliberate "leak" by the machine to test reactions?

The next day, Kamala Harris wrote a quite "presidential" tweet, reflecting perfectly her presidential ambitions. As she stated: "We can't have millions of Americans losing their homes in the middle of a pandemic. Here's one way we can deter that from happening: my RELIEF Act would help stop evictions and foreclosures for a year. But we must act now before the eviction crisis gets worse."

Although she appeared to be rather an unpopular candidate with no chance to beat the most popular Democrats during the race for party's leadership, Harris has those features that could help the establishment take identity politics to the next level. In short, she is a woman of color.

As we wrote in June, 2019, "It appears that Kamala Harris is establishment's most preferable candidate because she has all the characteristics that could revive identity politics and drive the electorate away from the substance of politics and towards the neoliberal center."

Indeed, as Ryan Cooper wrote recently for The Week, "Senator Kamala Harris (D-Calif.) is reportedly the frontrunner to be picked as Joe Biden's running mate. At a time of close attention to racial justice issues, the first Black woman vice president would be a marked symbolic advance."

Yet, he concludes that, "on the one hand, Harris went to the mat to keep thousands of nonviolent offenders behind bars. On the other, she would not prosecute a rich, well-connected person even when her own staffers found 1,000 alleged crimes. It's not a great fit for a time when the rampant injustice in American police departments and prisons has become a first-rank political issue." 

At least a year ago, there were plenty of other signs for the fact that Kamala Harris was among establishment's most beloved candidates. As a hardcore neoliberal could restore neoliberal order through a pseudo-progressive profile.

In May 2019, we identified a CNN attempt to promote pro-establishment candidates using Bernie Sanders progressive agenda. As we mentioned, the panel setup revealed that Harris was the number one favorite of the establishment.

And in another article that month we wrote, "here is the common strategy of the GOP/DNC unholly alliance: the Republicans pretend to be happy with Bernie Sanders in the Democratic leadership, looking confident that they will win. The liberal media spread the 'rumour' to scare many moderate voters and drive them back to the center. The corporate Democrats grab the opportunity to promote someone like Joe Biden or Kamala Harris against Bernie Sanders."

So, as the establishment players who pull the strings know very well Biden's profound weaknesses, they want to make sure that he will be replaced by their best puppet in case he will become unable to fulfill duties. It seems that the puppet is called Kamala Harris.

And in fact, it seems that the establishment players are eager to replace Biden with their top female Obama, in the end. It remains to be seen whether she will be picked by Biden for the VP position.
