Thousands of protesters marched near the Democratic National Convention in Chicago on Monday (August 19), calling for Vice President and Democratic presidential candidate Kamala Harris to end American support for Israel amid the war in Gaza.
Protesters traveled from across the country to wave signs reading “Peace Now,” “Stand with Palestine” and “End U.S. aid to Israel,” among other messages.

Bob Hausladen, a 64-year-old teacher from Boulder, Colorado, said the Biden administration’s handling of the conflict has influenced his vote in the upcoming election.
“Unless Harris and Walz show something that, to me, is tangible, I cannot vote for Harris,” Hausladen said. “And I certainly won't vote for Trump.”

For Lila Zegar, a 61-year-old retired insurance broker and Muslim woman from Orland Park, Illinois, said she plans to cast a vote for Green party candidate Jill Stein.
“If they're not going to change their policy on…Israel and supporting them with all arms and keep giving them billions and billions of dollars to commit genocide in our country, I cannot have no conscience to vote for her,” Zegar said.
Along the protest route which began and ended in Chicago’s Union Park, some protesters broke through security barricades before police responded.
