Morales: “Los países que nos hemos librado del FMI estamos mejor que antes”

El presidente de Bolivia, Evo Morales, señaló este jueves que los países de América Latina que se han librado del Fondo Monetario Internacional (FMI) están mejor que cuando sus economías eran dirigidas por dicha institución internacional.

“Hemos garantizado soberanía política, soberanía económica. Siento que nos hemos dignificado (…) Los países que nos hemos librado del FMI estamos mejor que antes”, dijo en declaraciones transmitidas por Telesur.

Durante la visita que realizó al Congreso de Argentina como parte de su gira por esta nación suramericana, Morales destacó que los recursos que anteriormente manejaba el FMI ahora se invierten en el bienestar del pueblo.

“Ahora el Fondo Monetario Internacional no define nuestra economía”, manifestó Morales, al tiempo que indicó que debido a la política de soberanía económica, que lleva adelante el Gobierno de Bolivia, hasta 2014 se logró reducir la pobreza extrema en 18% y la meta es llevarla a 8% antes de 2020.

Morales también abogó por la resolución de la disputa sobre la soberanía de las Islas Malvinas, invadidas por fuerzas británicas en 1833, territorio con una importante reserva de riquezas naturales como agua dulce e hidrocarburos.

En su discurso, el jefe de Estado boliviano resaltó el legado de los líderes revolucionarios latinomericanos Hugo Chávez, Néstor kirchner y Fidel Castro, por lo que se refirió a los avances logrados en la región, aún cuando comentó su disposición a continuar mejorando la situación económica y social de América Latina.

Morales arribó a Argentina este miércoles para firmar acuerdos bilaterales, en temas como la prevención e investigación de delitos de trata de personas; la asistencia y protección a víctimas contra la violencia de género; seguridad en la frontera común; comercio y migración.

Las naciones ampliarán, igualmente, programas de salud, minería, defensa y energía; así como también se hará oficial la construcción de una línea de interconexión eléctrica desde Bolivia.
