ΝΑΤΟ: Από το σύμφωνο της Βαρσοβίας στη διάσκεψη της Βαρσοβίας

«Οι ηγέτες του ΝΑΤΟ μιλούν για άμυνα αλλά προετοιμάζουν μια επιθετική επιχείρηση. Η ρητορική του στη Βαρσοβία απέχει μόλις ένα βήμα από την κήρυξη πολέμου στη Ρωσία». Η φράση ανήκει στον Μιχαήλ Γκορμπατσόφ, ο οποίος παρά το γεγονός ότι τις τελευταίες τρείς δεκαετίες δεν τα πηγαίνει και τόσο καλά με τις αναλύσεις του, κατάφερε να συνοψίσει σε μια φράση το κλίμα που επικράτησε στην τελευταία σύνοδο του ΝΑΤΟ.

Η ηγεσία της συμμαχίας συμφώνησε σε κλιμάκωση της παρουσίας της σε μια ζώνη, περιμετρικά της Ρωσίας, η οποία εκτείνεται από τις πρώην σοβιετικές δημοκρατίες της Βαλτικής μέχρι το Αφγανιστάν. Οι ΗΠΑ αναλαμβάνουν τον κεντρικό ρόλο με την αποστολή ενός τάγματος στρατιωτών στην Πολωνία, η Μεγάλη Βρετανία θα έχει τον συντονισμό των δυνάμεων στην Εσθονία, η Γερμανία στη Λιθουανία και ο Καναδάς στη Λετονία ενώ ολόκληρη η συμμαχία θα ενισχύσει την «αποτρεπτική» δυνατότητά της σε Ρουμανία και Βουλγαρία. Μια «νέα Γιάλτα» δηλαδή στήθηκε στις χώρες που κάποτε αποτελούσαν τις δυνάμεις του συμφώνου της Βαρσοβίας. Αιχμή του δόρατος βέβαια θα αποτελέσει για άλλη μια φορά η Ουκρανία ο πρόεδρος της οποίας, Πέτρο Ποροσένκο, συναντήθηκε με τον Ομπάμα, την Μέρκελ, τον Ολάντ και τον Ρέντσι για να αποφασίσουν την αύξηση της στρατιωτικής και οικονομικής βοήθειας που θα λάβει το καθεστώς του Κιέβου.

Παράλληλα ο Ομπάμα ανακοίνωσε κλιμάκωση των νατοϊκών επιχειρήσεων στην Κεντρική Ασία και τη Μέση Ανατολή στις οποίες περιλαμβάνεται η παροχή 900 εκατομμυρίων δολαρίων και επιπλέον 12.000 στρατιωτών για το Αφγανιστάν.

Η νατοϊκή ομοψυχία πάντως απέναντι στη Ρωσία δεν κατάφερε να κρύψει τις νέες τάσεις και τις εν δυνάμει αντιπαραθέσεις που θα προκύψουν στο όχι και τόσο μακρινό μέλλον. Καθοριστικός παράγοντας γι’ αυτό θα αποτελέσει η ολοκληρωτική πλέον νεκρανάσταση του γερμανικού μιλιταρισμού, ο οποίος εκφράστηκε πριν αλλά και κατά τη διάρκεια των εργασιών της συνόδου στη Βαρσοβία. «Η στάση των γερμανικών ενόπλων δυνάμεων αντικατοπτρίζει τις νέες ευθύνες της Γερμανίας σε παγκόσμιο επίπεδο» δήλωσε από τη Βαρσοβία η Αγκελα Μέρκελ ανακοινώνοντας παράλληλα την αύξηση του πολεμικού προϋπολογισμού και την ενίσχυση της γερμανικής παρουσίας σε επιχειρήσεις στο Ιράκ, τη Συρία και το Αφγανιστάν. Ουσιαστικά η σύνοδος του ΝΑΤΟ έδωσε την ευκαιρία στο Βερολίνο να παρουσιάσει στους ηγέτες της Δύσης το νέο στρατηγικό δόγμα που είχε παρουσιάσει για πρώτη φορά στη Διάσκεψη Ασφαλείας του Μονάχου το 2014.

Το μεγάλο ερώτημα που καλείται να απαντήσει πλέον η γερμανική οικονομική ελίτ είναι σε ποιο βαθμό ο νέος αυτός μιλιταρισμός θα εκφραστεί μέσω του ΝΑΤΟ – δηλαδή σε συνεργασία αλλά και υπό την υψηλή εποπτεία της Ουάσιγκτον – η εάν θα αναζητήσει νέες διεξόδους σε ευρωπαϊκό επίπεδο. Τα σενάρια στενότερης συνεργασίας μεταξύ της Γερμανίας, της Γαλλίας και άλλων χωρών της Δυτικής Ευρώπης αναθερμάνθηκαν μετά και από την αναταραχή που προκάλεσε το δημοψήφισμα για το Brexit. Πίσω λοιπόν από το κλίμα αγαστής συνεργασίας μεταξύ ΕΕ και ΝΑΤΟ που προβλήθηκε προς τα μέσα ενημέρωσης αναπτύσσονται νέες ενδο-ιμπεριαλιστικές αντιπαραθέσεις. Το για πόσο διάστημα θα αυτοπεριορίζονται και θα κρύβονται πίσω από το «κοινό μέτωπο» εναντίον της Ρωσίας μένει να φανεί τους επόμενους μήνες.

A response to misinformation on Nicaragua: it was a coup, not a ‘massacre’

There is so much misinformation in mainstream corporate media about recent events in Nicaragua that it is a pity that Mary Ellsberg’s article for Pulse has added to it with a seemingly leftish critique. Ellsberg claims that recent articles, including from this website, often “ paint a picture of the crisis in Nicaragua that is dangerously misleading. ” Unfortunately, her own article does just that.
