Μετά τη Βενεζουέλα, να ψηφίσουμε και για το Μεξικό;

Τον Σεπτέμβριο του 2014, η μεξικανική αστυνομία άνοιξε πυρ σε λεωφορεία που μετέφεραν φοιτητές από το Κολλέγιο της πόλης Αγιοτζινάπα στη Πόλη του Μεξικού. Επρόκειτο, όπως κάθε χρόνο, να πάρουν μέρος σε μια συγκέντρωση μνήμης για τη δολοφονία 400 φοιτητών το 1968 στη πρωτεύουσα, δέκα μέρες πριν την έναρξη των Ολυμπιακών Αγώνων... Υστερα θα επέστρεφαν με τα ίδια λεωφορεία.

Από την επίθεση της αστυνομίας, έξι φοιτητές πέθαναν επί τόπου και δεκάδες τραυματίστηκαν. Κατόπιν η αστυνομία άδειασε δύο λεωφορεία συλλαμβάνοντας 43 φοιτητές, τους οποίους μετάφερε με περιπολικά προς άγνωστη κατεύθυνση. Από τότε τα ίχνη τους έχουν εξαφανιστεί. Η κυβέρνηση υποστηρίζει ότι οι 43 φοιτητές απήχθησαν από την τοπική αστυνομία που συνεργάζεται με εμπόρους ναρκωτικών και δολοφονήθηκαν, χωρίς όμως να δίνει επαρκείς εξηγήσεις για τα κίνητρα των πιθανών απαγωγέων και στοιχεία για το που βρίσκονται τα πτώματα των δολοφονηθέντων.

Με την υπόθεση να συγκλονίζει το Μεξικό, αποφασίστηκε να κληθεί μια διεθνής επιτροπή εμπειρογνωμόνων για να προχωρήσει τις έρευνες. Αλλά από τις πρώτες εβδομάδες τα μέλη της επιτροπής άρχισαν να διαμαρτύρονται για τα συνεχή εμπόδια που έβαζε η κυβέρνηση στο έργο τους και τις απειλές που δέχονταν. Πριν από μερικές μέρες αποκαλύφθηκε ότι τα τηλέφωνα των μελών της επιτροπής παρακολουθούντο, μέσω του Pegasus, ενός πανάκριβου συστήματος το οποίο η κυβέρνηση του Μεξικού αγόρασε από το Ισραήλ πληρώνοντας δεκάδες εκατομμύρια δολάρια. Το ίδιο λογισμικό είχε χρησιμοποιηθεί για την παρακολούθηση των σημαντικότερων διανοούμενων, δικηγόρων, δημοσιογράφων και των οικογενειών τους.

Είναι προφανές ότι η κυβέρνηση έχει σοβαρές ευθύνες για τη τραγωδία, τις οποίες προσπαθεί να καλύψει. Αλλά επειδή είναι μια από τις αγαπημένες των διεθνών αγορών, λίγος είναι ο διεθνής θόρυβος γύρω από την υπόθεση. Ούτε ψηφίσματα στο Ευρωκοινοβούλιο και τον ΟΗΕ, ούτε καταγγελίες της μεξικανικής κυβέρνησης από διεθνείς ηγέτες και οργανισμούς, ούτε τίποτα. Φαντάζεστε τι θα είχε γίνει αν στη Βενεζουέλα του Μαδούρο είχαν εξαφανιστεί εδώ και τρία χρόνια 43 φοιτητές, μετά την εν ψυχρώ δολοφονία και τον τραυματισμό δεκάδων συμφοιτητών τους;

Δεν υπονοώ σε καμία περίπτωση ότι θα πρέπει να γίνεται συμψηφισμός στις παραβιάσεις των ανθρωπίνων δικαιωμάτων, είτε διαπράττονται από την κυβέρνηση του Μεξικού ή της Βενεζουέλας. Αλλά όταν οι Ευρωπαίοι και οι εγχώριοι πολιτικοί ασχολούνται με διεθνή θέματα, θα πρέπει να έχουν υπόψιν τους το γεωπολιτικό περιβάλλον, τον πολιτισμό και την ιστορία των χωρών στις οποίες αναφέρονται.

Στο Μεξικό πάνω από 100.000 έχουν δολοφονηθεί και περίπου 30.000 έχουν εξαφανιστεί τη τελευταία δεκαετία. Θύματα του πολέμου κατά των ναρκωτικών αλλά και του ευτελισμού της αξίας που έχει η ανθρώπινη ζωή σε μια ήπειρο που τυραννήθηκε τόσο πολύ από την αποικιοκρατία, πριν μεταβληθεί σε πίσω αυλή των ΗΠΑ. Πριν λοιπόν βγάλουμε ένα ακόμη ψήφισμα για τη Βενεζουέλα ή τη Κούβα, καλό θα είναι να διαβάσουμε το εξαιρετικό βιβλίο του Εντουάρντο Γκαλεάνο «Οι ανοιχτές πληγές της Λατινικής Αμερικής».
