Πόσο κοντά είμαστε σε πυρηνικό πόλεμο;

Οι περισσότεροι άνθρωποι (και πολιτικοί) δεν πιστεύουν (ή δεν θέλουν ή δεν τους συμφέρει να πιστεύουν) ότι ένας πυρηνικός πόλεμος είναι δυνατός.

Αυτός ακριβώς είναι ένας λόγος που ένας πυρηνικός πόλεμος μπορεί να γίνει. ‘Όταν δεν πιστεύεις ότι υπάρχει απειλή, τότε δεν κινητοποιείσαι για να την αποτρέψεις αποτελεσματικά.

Μια τέτοια κατάσταση, ειρήσθω εν παρόδω, ήταν που επέτρεψε και τον Α’ και τον Β’ Παγκόσμιο Πόλεμο. Στην πρώτη περίπτωση και τα δύο στρατόπεδα περίμεναν ότι το άλλο θα υποχωρήσει. Από «μπλόφα» σε «μπλόφα», καταλήξαμε στην πρώτη από τις μεγάλες ανθρωποσφαγές του 20ού αιώνα. Δύο δεκαετίες αργότερα, το Παρίσι, το Λονδίνο και η Μόσχα δεν θέλησαν να πιστέψουν ότι ο Χίτλερ ετοιμαζόταν να τους επιτεθεί. Βαυκαλίστηκαν τυχοδιωκτικά και καιροσκοπικά με την εκτίμηση ότι θα μπορούσαν, με τον ένα ή τον άλλο τρόπο, να τα βρουν μαζί του. ‘Όχι μόνο δεν έκαναν τίποτα για να τον εμποδίσουν, αλλά και τον διευκόλυναν σημαντικά με την πολιτική τους. Το 1940, η Γαλλία κατελήφθη και ντροπιάστηκε συνθηκολογώντας, η ΕΣΣΔ παρολίγον να καταστραφεί (συνέβαλε καθοριστικά στο να μη συμβεί αυτό και η αντίσταση των Ελλήνων τότε στον Φασισμό και οι Κρητικοί που αποδεκάτισαν τους Γερμανούς αλεξιπτωτιστές, κάτι που ίσως να πληρώνουμε ακόμα). Η Βρετανία επεβίωσε, αναγκάστηκε όμως να παραιτηθεί οριστικά από ότι απέμενε από την Αυτοκρατορία της.

Το 1945 έγινε το αντίθετο. Μια ισχυρή μερίδα του αμερικανικού κατεστημένου ήταν έτοιμη να πάει σε τρίτο παγκόσμιο πόλεμο με τη Σοβιετική ‘Ενωση, τότε μάλιστα, και μέχρι το 1949, η Ουάσιγκτων είχε και το μονοπώλιο του πυρηνικού όπλου. Ποιος την εμπόδισε; ‘Όχι τόσο τα όπλα της Ρωσίας, όσο η τεράστια και παγκόσμια πολιτική ακτινοβολία της την επαύριο της νίκης επί του Φασισμού, η ύπαρξη ενόπλων κινητοποιημένων λαών σε μεγάλο τμήμα της ευρωπαϊκής ηπείρου, συχνά υπό την ηγεσία κομμουνιστικών αντιστασιακών κινημάτων, η εναργής συνείδηση όλης της ανθρωπότητας για το τι σημαίνει Πόλεμος.

Δυστυχώς, οι παγκόσμιες πολιτικές συνθήκες σήμερα, είναι που συνιστούν τη μεγαλύτερη απειλή για την ειρήνη. Ζούμε μια τρομερή υποχώρηση της πολιτικής συνείδησης παγκόσμια και μια αποσύνθεση της πολιτικής σκέψης – αυτή ακριβώς που επέτρεψε σε ένα κλόουν να παραστήσει τον αγωνιστή υπέρ της ειρήνης (!) και να παγιδεύσει τόσους ανθρώπους και δυνάμεις στις Ηνωμένες Πολιτείες και παγκοσμίως.

    Δεν είναι ιστορικά σωστός ο πρόλογος. Όλοι, και ήδη τρια χρόνια πριν την κήρυξή του, προετοιμάζονταν για τον πόλεμο. Και ειδικά η Σοβιετική Ένωση, από την στιγμή που βγήκε ο Χίτλερ στην εξουσία. Και είναι εντελώς αυθαίρετο να πει κανείς ότι σώθηκε από την αντίσταση των Κρητικών. Μια ματιά στα μεγέθη αρκεί: μια μεραρχία όλη κι όλη ήταν η γερμανική που εισέβαλλε στην Κρήτη, πάνω από διακόσιες στην επιχείρηση Μπαρμπαρόσσα. Η μία έλειπε για να καταληφτεί η Μόσχα;
    Ο "κλόουν", επίσης, δεν κάνει κάτι διαφορετικό από τους προκατόχους του. Μάλιστα, ότι θα ασχοληθεί με τον περιορισμό της Κίνας, το είχε αναγγείλει πριν την εκλογή του. Δεν έχει αλλάξει κάτι, και η δαιμονοποίηση υπήρξε και σε άλλες επεμβάσεις, πχ Λιβύη. Αυτό περί (σημερινής) αποσύνθεσης της πολιτικής σκέψης.

A response to misinformation on Nicaragua: it was a coup, not a ‘massacre’

There is so much misinformation in mainstream corporate media about recent events in Nicaragua that it is a pity that Mary Ellsberg’s article for Pulse has added to it with a seemingly leftish critique. Ellsberg claims that recent articles, including from this website, often “ paint a picture of the crisis in Nicaragua that is dangerously misleading. ” Unfortunately, her own article does just that.
