Τζούλιαν Ασάνζ: Ένας ήρωας της εποχής αργοπεθαίνει στη φυλακή

Την εικόνα ενός κράτους-παρία, το οποίο βασανίζει πολιτικούς κρατούμενους οδηγώντας τους με ακρίβεια προς το θάνατο, σκιαγράφησε ο ειδικός εμπειρογνώμονας του ΟΗΕ για τα βασανιστήρια, Νιλς Μέλζερ, μόλις έλαβε τις τελευταίες ιατρικές εκτιμήσεις για τον έγκλειστο Τζούλιαν Ασάνζ.

Ο Μέλζερ κατηγόρησε το Λονδίνο ότι αγνοεί προκλητικά όλες τις προηγούμενες επείγουσες προειδοποιήσεις του και σημείωσε «αν ο Ασάνζ δεν απελευθερωθεί άμεσα και δεν λάβει την απαιτούμενη ιατρική φροντίδα, μπορεί να πεθάνει πίσω από τα σίδερα των βρετανικών φυλακών».

Πέρα από την ανθρωπιστική πλευρά της υπόθεσης, η κράτηση του Ασάνζ αποκαλύπτει την ολοκληρωτική κατάρρευση κάθε έννοιας κράτους δικαίου. Κάτι που παρατηρείται όχι μόνο στη Βρετανία και στις ΗΠΑ αλλά και στη γενέτειρα του Ασάνζ, την Αυστραλία, που αφήνει ένα πολίτη της να σιγοσβήνει σε φυλακές ξένου κράτους.

H προειλημμένη απόφαση του βρετανικού κατεστημένου για την έκδοσή του στις ΗΠΑ και η παράνομη πλέον κράτησή του από Βρετανούς δικαστές δεν είναι άσχετη με άλλα περιστατικά κατάφωρης παραβίασης θεμελιωδών ανθρωπίνων δικαιωμάτων και δημοκρατικών διαδικασιών. Από τον Ασάνζ και τις παρακολουθήσεις πολιτών μέχρι τις πραξικοπηματικού τύπου παρεμβάσεις για το Brexit, η Βρετανία χάνει το δικαίωμα να αποκαλείται δημοκρατία.

Ο ιδρυτής των Wikileaks, όμως, βρίσκεται εγκαταλελειμμένος και από μεγάλα τμήματα της ευρωπαϊκής Αριστεράς, η οποία σφυρίζει αδιάφορα, αναπαράγοντας συχνά την επιχειρηματολογία της Ουάσινγκτον για τα υποτιθέμενα σεξουαλικά παραπτώματά του. Με αποτέλεσμα να παραδίδουν έναν ήρωα της εποχής μας στα χέρια των εγκληματιών πολέμου – που ο ίδιος ξεσκέπασε.

Η κατάσταση αποκτά ακόμη πιο εξοργιστικά χαρακτηριστικά στις ΗΠΑ, όπου οι ναυαρχίδες του φιλελεύθερου Τύπου, που σταύρωσαν τον Ασάνζ, επευφημούν σε κάθε ευκαιρία τους πληροφοριοδότες δημοσίου συμφέροντος (whistleblowers), όταν έχουν να καταγγείλουν κάτι για τον Ντόναλντ Τραμπ. Όσο ορθές, βάσιμες και απαραίτητες και αν είναι αυτές οι καταγγελίες, θα πρέπει να είναι κανείς αφελής για να μην καταλαβαίνει ότι πηγάζουν από την καρδιά των μυστικών υπηρεσιών και εξυπηρετούν συμφέροντα συγκεκριμένων ομάδων του πολιτικού, οικονομικού και στρατιωτικού κατεστημένου.
