Η Μέι κλονίζεται και της φταίει ο Κόρμπιν

Μια γιγαντοαφίσα, σε τεχνοτροπία σοσιαλιστικού ρεαλισμού, που απεικονίζει το Κρεμλίνο και τον καθεδρικό του Αγίου Βασιλείου και στο κέντρο η εικόνα του «πατερούλη».

Θα μπορούσε να βρίσκεται στην κόκκινη πλατεία στα χρόνια του Στάλιν αλλά ήταν το φόντο της τελευταίας εκπομπής Newsnight του BBC με θέμα την αντιπαράθεση της Βρετανίας με τη Ρωσία για την δηλητηρίαση του Ρώσου πρώην διπλού πράκτορα Σεργκέι Σκριπάλ.

Το πρόβλημα στο σκηνικό της εκπομπής ήταν ότι το BBC τοποθέτησε στη θέση του Στάλιν μια φωτογραφία του ηγέτη των Εργατικών.

Λίγες μόλις εβδομάδες μετά την αστεία επίθεση που δέχθηκε ο Κόρμπιν από φυλλάδες ευρείας κυκλοφορίας αλλά και στελέχη των Συντηρητικών που τον κατηγορούσαν σαν «πρώην πράκτορα της ΕΣΣΔ, ήταν η σειρά της κρατικής τηλεόρασης να μετατραπεί σε εργαλείο προπαγάνδας εναντίον του. Αφορμή ήταν η αυτονόητη προτροπή του Κόρμπιν προς την Τερέζα Μέι να παρουσιάσει συγκεκριμένα στοιχεία για ενδεχόμενη εμπλοκή της Μόσχας στην υπόθεση της δηλητηρίασης, πριν διατάξει μια ολομέτωπη διπλωματική επίθεση που θα προκαλούσε ανεξέλεγκτες εξελίξεις.

H εκστρατεία σπίλωσης του ηγέτη των Εργατικών, με τεχνικές που θα έκαναν ακόμη και τον γερουσιαστή Μακάρθι να αμφιβάλλει για τη σοβαρότητά τους, δεν προέρχεται μόνο από την κυβερνητική παράταξη αλλά και από το εσωτερικό του κόμματός του, που επιχειρεί ένα ακόμη πολιτικό πραξικόπημα. Ο ίδιος ο Κόρμπιν φρόντισε να εξοργίσει τους οπαδούς του Τόνι Μπλερ συγκρίνοντας τις εξελίξεις απέναντι στη Ρωσία με τις καταγγελίες για τα υποτιθέμενα όπλα μαζικής καταστροφής του Σαντάμ Χουσεϊν – μια υπόθεση που καθιστά τα παλαιότερα στελέχη των Εργατικών υπόλογα για ένα έγκλημα πολέμου.

Παρά τις παλινωδίες του σε σειρά θεμάτων εσωτερικής πολιτικής, με αποκορύφωμα τη στάση του στο δημοψήφισμα για το Brexit, ο Κόρμπιν εξακολουθεί να ενοχλεί εκείνα τα τμήματα του βρετανικού κατεστημένου που προωθούν την ολοκληρωτική συστράτευση με την Ουάσιγκτον απέναντι στη Ρωσία. Οι σταθερές θέσεις του απέναντι στο Ισραήλ και τη Σαουδική Αραβία, αλλά και η στάση του για τις εξελίξεις στη Συρία έρχονται σε πλήρη σύγκρουση τόσο με τους μηχανισμούς χάραξης εξωτερικής πολιτικής του Λονδίνου όσο και με την πολεμική βιομηχανία της Βρετανίας, η οποία εξοπλίζει αδιαλείπτως τα πιο αιμοσταγή καθεστώτα της ευρύτερης Μέσης Ανατολής από την εποχή της Οθωμανικής αυτοκρατορίας μέχρι σήμερα.

Η κλιμάκωση της αντιπαράθεσης με τη Ρωσία, την οποία διέταξε η Τερέζα Μέι, προκαλεί ήδη τις πρώτες συγκρούσεις στο εσωτερικό της Μεγάλης Βρετανίας. Θα καταφέρει όμως η Βρετανίδα πρωθυπουργός να χρησιμοποιήσει την εξωτερική κρίση για να ενισχύσει την κυριαρχία της, όπως έκανε η Θάτσερ με τον πόλεμο των Φόκλαντς, η θα χάσει μια ακόμη μάχη;
