Εισβολή των ΗΠΑ στη Βενεζουέλα ζητούσε επίμονα ο Τραμπ

Σύμφωνα με στοιχεία που κυκλοφόρησαν αυτή την εβδομάδα από το Associated Press, σε συζητήσεις με τη στενή ομάδα συνεργατών του, ο Ντόναλντ Τραμπ επίμονα ζητούσε μία εισβολή στη Βενεζουέλα.

Δημόσια ο Τραμπ είχε μιλήσει για αυτό τον Αύγουστο του 2017, σχολιάζοντας «έχουμε πολλές επιλογές όσον αφορά τη Βενεζουέλα, μεταξύ των οποίων και μία στρατιωτική παρέμβαση, αν αυτό κριθεί απαραίτητο».

Όμως, η έκφραση των ιδεών αυτών δεν περιορίζεται σε αυτή τη δημόσια δήλωση. Μια μέρα πριν, σε συνάντηση με την ομάδα του στο Λευκό Οίκο μιλούσε επανειλημμένα για το ενδεχόμενο εισβολής στη Βενεζουέλα. Εκπλήσσοντας τους συνεργάτες του, είχε ρωτήσει γιατί οι ΗΠΑ δεν θα μπορούσαν να παρέμβουν προκειμένου να απομακρύνουν την κυβέρνηση Μαδούρο από την εξουσία, δεδομένου ότι η οικονομική και πολιτική κατάρρευση της Βενεζουέλας ήταν μια απειλή για την περιοχή.

Οι παρευρισκόμενοι στη συνάντηση προσπάθησαν να μεταπείσουν τον Ντόναλντ Τραμπ, τονίζοντας ότι μια στρατιωτική παρέμβαση θα απομάκρυνε από τις ΗΠΑ τους συμμάχους που έχουν στη Λατινική Αμερική – συμμάχους που είχαν υποστηρίξει ανοιχτά τις κυρώσεις που επιβάλλουν οι ΗΠΑ στην κυβέρνηση Μαδούρο.

Ο Τραμπ δεν έδειξε να μεταπείθεται και την επόμενη μέρα προχώρησε στις σχετικές δημόσιες δηλώσεις. Αργότερα ο Λευκός Οίκος ανακοίνωσε ότι δεν αποδέχτηκε τηλεφωνική επικοινωνία με το Νικολά Μαδούρο.

Αλλά ακόμα και τις εβδομάδες που ακολούθησαν ο Τραμπ έμεινε πιστός σε αυτή την άποψη, την οποία μάλιστα εξέφρασε και σε επίσημο δείπνο το Σεπτέμβριο με τους συμμάχους των ΗΠΑ στη Λατινική Αμερική. Σταδιακά οι στενοί του συνεργάτες κατάφεραν να περιορίσουν τις ιδέες αυτές.

Ωστόσο η Βενεζουέλα δεν είναι η μόνη χώρα που ο Τραμπ έχει στοχοποιήσει και απειλήσει ευθέως. Μέσα στο 2017 ο Τραμπ απειλούσε τη Βόρεια Κορέα με καταστροφή, αν αυτή απειλούσε τις ΗΠΑ με τα πυρηνικά όπλα που διαθέτει. Οι εντάσεις με τη Βόρεια Κορέα περιορίστηκαν μετά τη φετινή του συνάντηση με τον Κιμ Γιονγκ-Ουν στη Σιγκαπούρη.
