H Μέρκελ «έκοψε» την πανευρωπαΐκή εγγύηση καταθέσεων

Χωρίς συμφωνία για την πανευρωπαϊκή εγγύηση καταθέσεων έληξε η διήμερη σύνοδος κορυφής των Βρυξελλών, μετά από το κάθετο «όχι» της γερμανίδας καγκελαρίου Ανγκελα Μέρκελ.

Η πρόβλεψη για πανευρωπαϊκή εγγύηση των καταθέσεων στο πλαίσιο της τραπεζικής ένωσης, παρ' ότι υπήρχε στο προσχέδιο απόφασης, δεν μπήκε τελικά στα συμπεράσματα της συνόδου κατ΄απαίτηση της Γερμανίας - γεγονός, που προκάλεσε και την οξεία αντιπαράθεση της Ανγκελα Μέρκελ με τον ιταλό πρωθυπουργό Ματέο Ρέντσι.

Αντί αυτής της πρόβλεψης, που αναφερόταν στην «σταδιακή εισαγωγή ενός σχεδίου ευρωπαϊκής εγγύησης καταθέσεων», στα συμπεράσματα τη συνόδου εντάχθηκε μια γενική αναφορά για την προώθηση της τραπεζικής ένωσης: «Οι εργασίες πρέπει να προχωρήσουν γρήγορα όσον αφορά την τραπεζική ένωση, για την ενίσχυση της χρηματοοικονομικής σταθερότητας στην ευρωζώνη» αναφέρεται χαρακτηριστικά.

Το αρχικό σχέδιο της τραπεζικής ένωσης, και κατόπιν πρότασης της Κομισιόν, περιλάμβανε και τη δημιουργία ενός ενιαίου πανευρωπαϊκού σχήματος εγγύησης καταθέσεων εως 100.000 ευρώ. Η Γερμανία, ωστόσο, αντιτάχθηκε έντονα σ' αυτή την προοπτική επικαλούμενη την πάγια θέση της κατά της αμοιβαιοποίησης χρεών και εγγυήσεων στην Ευρώπη.

A response to misinformation on Nicaragua: it was a coup, not a ‘massacre’

There is so much misinformation in mainstream corporate media about recent events in Nicaragua that it is a pity that Mary Ellsberg’s article for Pulse has added to it with a seemingly leftish critique. Ellsberg claims that recent articles, including from this website, often “ paint a picture of the crisis in Nicaragua that is dangerously misleading. ” Unfortunately, her own article does just that. It looks at the situation entirely from the perspective of those opposing Daniel Ortega’s government while whitewashing their malevolent behavior and downplaying the levels of US support they have relied on. Her piece is an incomplete depiction of what is happening on the ground, ignoring many salient facts that have come to light and which have been outdated by recent events.
