Ποιος πιστεύει τον Ερντογάν;

Μια εκτίμηση για την πρόσφατη Τουρκική εισβολή στη Βόρεια Συρία

Είναι πολύ δύσκολο να πιστέψει κανείς ότι οι χερσαίες Τουρκικές δυνάμεις εισέβαλαν στη Βόρεια Συρία για να πολεμήσουν τους τρομοκράτες του ISIS. Φαίνεται ότι οι Αμερικανοί αξιωματούχοι αποφάσισαν να καθησυχάσουν τον Ερντογάν και να τον αφήσουν για την ώρα να παίξει το δικό του παιχνίδι, ώστε να τον κάνουν να ξεχάσει για λίγο τον Γκιουλέν και το αποτυχημένο πραξικόπημα του Ιουλίου.

Ο Ομπάμα δεν θέλει να ρισκάρει περισσότερο με τον απρόβλεπτο Τούρκο ηγέτη, ειδικά όταν έδειξε ότι δεν θα διστάσει να στραφεί οριστικά στον Πούτιν. Δεν θέλει επίσης να ρισκάρει περισσότερο χάος στη Μέση Ανατολή τώρα που τελειώνει η θητεία του. Θα αφήσει την "καυτή πατάτα" στα χέρια του επόμενου προέδρου των ΗΠΑ.

Ο Ερντογάν από τη μεριά του ξέρει ότι δεν έχει πολύ χρόνο μέχρι την νέα προεδρία Κλίντον ή Τραμπ. Για το λόγο αυτό, προσπαθεί να κερδίσει ότι μπορεί, ώστε να διαπραγματευτεί από θέση ισχύος όταν η Συριακή κόλαση τελειώσει κάποια στιγμή.

Προς το παρόν, παραμένει προσηλωμένος στην ατζέντα του, δηλαδή προσπαθεί να εκμεταλλευτεί το Συριακό χάος για να ενισχύσει τους Σύριους Τουρκομάνους και άρα, τα όνειρά του για μια γενικότερη επέκταση της Τουρκικής επιρροής στη Μέση Ανατολή. Αυτό εξηγεί και την απαίτηση της Τουρκίας να αποσυρθούν οι Κούρδοι μαχητές του YPG προς τα ανατολικά του Ευφράτη. Μέσα από αυτή την κίνηση, επιχειρεί να διατηρήσει έναν ανοιχτό διάδρομο με τους Τουρκομάνους της Βόρειας Συρίας, αλλά και να σαμποτάρει το Κουρδικό εγχείρημα για μια αυτόνομη κρατική υπόσταση στην περιοχή.

Εντωμεταξύ, όλοι φαίνεται να έχουν "ξεχάσει" για λίγο τον Άσαντ, ή τουλάχιστον τον έχουν αποδεχθεί ως μια ενδιάμεση κατάσταση πριν από τον τελικό επανασχεδιασμό του Συριακού χάρτη. Όλοι οι βασικοί παίχτες είναι προσηλωμένοι στους στόχους τους.

Αυτό σημαίνει ότι είναι μάλλον απίθανο οι ΗΠΑ να εγκαταλείψουν τους Κούρδους και τον σχεδιασμό για ένα Κουρδικό κράτος, καθώς έχουν επενδύσει σοβαρά σε μια τέτοια προοπτική όλα τα προηγούμενα χρόνια. Μπορεί ο Ομπάμα να θέλει να φύγει χωρίς να χρεωθεί ακόμα περισσότερα προβλήματα, αλλά είναι σχεδόν σίγουρο ότι ο επόμενος Αμερικανός πρόεδρος δεν θα εγκαταλείψει αυτά τα σχέδια τόσο εύκολα μόνο και μόνο για να μη δυσαρεστήσει τον Ερντογάν.
