Ο Ερντογάν τελικά στρέφεται στον Πούτιν ίσως επειδή βλέπει τη Χίλαρι να έρχεται

του system failure

Το χαοτικό παζλ της Μέσης Ανατολής απαιτεί δυνατούς παίχτες και πολύπλοκες κινήσεις. Ωστόσο, η τελευταία κίνηση του Ερντογάν να στραφεί στον Πούτιν και να προσπαθήσει να αποκαταστήσει τις σχέσεις Ρωσίας-Τουρκίας, δείχνει ότι ο Τούρκος ηγέτης έχει μάλλον ξεμείνει από επιλογές όσον αφορά τις διεθνείς συμμαχίες.

Παρόλο που ο Ερντογάν κατάφερε να αποτρέψει το πραξικόπημα εναντίον του και να προχωρήσει σε μια επίδειξη δύναμης χρησιμοποιώντας περισσότερο αυταρχισμό στο εσωτερικό, πιθανόν να κατάλαβε ότι δεν θα μπορούσε να πάει πολύ μακριά χωρίς συμμάχους στο εξωτερικό. Τα γεράκια της Ουάσιγκτον χρειάζονταν τον Ερντογάν και τους Σαουδάραβες, ώστε να κάνουν τη βρόμικη δουλειά, δηλαδή να βοηθήσουν τους τρομοκράτες του ISIS και άλλες ομάδες εξτρεμιστών, ώστε να διεξάγουν τον "πόλεμο δι'αντιπροσώπων" εναντίον του Άσαντ στη Συρία.

Αλλά οι σχέσεις μεταξύ των ΗΠΑ και της Τουρκίας, πιθανόν να άρχισαν να χειροτερεύουν δραματικά, ότι η Ουάσιγκτον αντιλήφθηκε ότι ο Ερντογάν χρησιμοποιούσε τους τζιχαντιστές για να προωθήσει τη δική του ατζέντα. Με λίγα λόγια, ο Ερντογάν ήθελε να επεκτείνει την Τουρκική επιρροή στην ευρύτερη Μέση Ανατολή, αλλά και να διαλύσει την Κουρδική αντίσταση, βάζοντας τέλος στα όποια σχέδια για Κουρδικό κράτος.

Η όλη ιστορία μοιάζει περισσότερο με μια διαδικασία μαφιόζικων συναλλαγών, παρά με μια διαδικασία σχέσεων σε επίπεδο κρατών. Επιπλέον ο υψηλός βαθμός αβεβαιότητας όσον αφορά τις εξελίξεις στη Μέση Ανατολή, προδίδει την πολυ-πολική πλέον φύση της ισορροπίας ισχύος σε ένα πολύπλοκο γεωπολιτικό πεδίο.

Ξεκινώντας από την Ουάσιγκτον, είναι ξεκάθαρο ότι έχασε γρήγορα τον έλεγχο των διαφόρων ένοπλων ομάδων στη Συρία και το Ιράκ, ειδικά μετά από μια σειρά τρομοκρατικών επιχειρήσεων σε Αμερικανικό και Ευρωπαϊκό έδαφος, που προσομοιώνουν έναν νέο τύπο ασύμμετρου πολέμου που διεξάγεται από τους τζιχαντιστές. Ως αποτέλεσμα αυτού, αναγκάστηκε να συμβιβαστεί με τη Ρωσική επέμβαση στη Συρία, ενώ αποδέχθηκε σιωπηλά την παρουσία και του Ιράν, καθώς και της Χεσμπολάχ, προκειμένου να βάλουν ένα τέλος στο χάος της Μέσης Ανατολής. Φαίνεται ότι η Ουάσιγκτον απέτυχε και στο να ελέγξει τον Ερντογάν.

Ο Πούτιν μάλλον ήταν αναμενόμενο να ξεχάσει το θυμό του και τη δήλωση που είχε κάνει περί "πισώπλατης μαχαιριάς" από αυτούς που "βοηθούν τους τρομοκράτες", μετά την κατάρριψη του Ρωσικού μαχητικού από Τουρκικά πυρά, λιγότερο από ένα χρόνο πριν. Είναι ξεκάθαρο ότι και η θέση της Ρωσίας είναι δύσκολη, όχι μόνο λόγω των Δυτικών οικονομικών κυρώσεων, αλλά και επειδή πολλές κρίσιμες οικονομικές συμφωνίες με την Τουρκία είχαν παγώσει. Ο Πούτιν δέχθηκε εύκολα τη νέα απόπειρα προσέγγισης από τον Ερντογάν, καθώς η Ρωσία έχει τεράστια οικονομικά και γεωπολιτικά συμφέροντα στην ευρύτερη περιοχή.

Επιπλέον, ο Πούτιν δεν θα άφηνε μια τέτοια ευκαιρία να πάει χαμένη και θα επιχειρούσε οπωσδήποτε να εκμεταλλευτεί το γεγονός ότι οι σχέσεις μεταξύ ΗΠΑ και Τουρκίας, δηλαδή ενός από τους βασικότερους συμμάχους τους στο ΝΑΤΟ, βρίσκονται ίσως στο χειρότερο σημείο από ποτέ.

Όσον αφορά την Τουρκία, δεν είναι μόνο η απόπειρα πραξικοπήματος που έκανε τον Ερντογάν περισσότερο καχύποπτο σχετικά με τις προθέσεις των Αμερικανών. Είναι και το γεγονός ότι μια πιθανή προεδρία Κλίντον θα τον φέρει σε ακόμα πιο δύσκολη θέση.

Ενώ ο Ομπάμα μοιάζει να θέλει να αποχωρήσει χωρίς να χρεωθεί περισσότερο χάος, η Χίλαρι Κλίντον θα κάνει τα πάντα για να δείξει "ποιος είναι το αφεντικό" ξανά. Δεν θα ανεχθεί ανεξάρτητες ατζέντες από τους Δυτικούς συμμάχους, που σημαίνει ότι θα απαιτήσει απόλυτη προσήλωση στη νεοσυντηρητική/νεοφιλελεύθερη ατζέντα από τα μέλη του ΝΑΤΟ. Μια ατζέντα που περιλαμβάνει, φυσικά, την ευθεία αντιπαράθεση με την Σινο-Ρωσική συμμαχία, προκειμένου να ανακοπεί η ταχέως αυξανόμενη δυναμική της στο οικονομικό/γεωπολιτικό πεδίο.

Αλλά υπάρχει και μια άλλη, περισσότερο συμβολική διάσταση σε μια τέτοια προοπτική. Σκεφτείτε τη θέση του Ερντογάν αν η Χίλαρι Κλίντον γίνει η επόμενη πρόεδρος των ΗΠΑ. Ένας Σουνίτης πρόεδρος θα φανεί ότι υπακούει σε μια γυναίκα και ότι υποχωρεί μπροστά στην ισχύ της, στα μάτια εκατομμυρίων οπαδών του. Τα όνειρα του Ερντογάν για επέκταση της επιρροής του στην ευρύτερη Σουνιτική Μέση Ανατολή θα εξανεμισθούν. Δεν πρόκειται ποτέ να το αποδεχθεί αυτό και επιπλέον, δεν πρόκειται να αποδεχθεί ένα Κουρδικό κράτος, αν και σε αυτό το ζήτημα, ίσως οι Ρώσοι και οι Αμερικανοί να έχουν ήδη συμφωνήσει. Επομένως, η χρονική στιγμή που επέλεξε ο Ερντογάν να προσεγγίσει τον Πούτιν, δεν πρέπει να θεωρηθεί τυχαία.
