Η χρεοκοπημένη Ελλάδα νικάει τη Monsanto

Η Monsanto ανακοίνωσε ότι θα συμμορφωθεί με την εξαίρεση που ζήτησαν και κέρδισαν η Λετονία και η Ελλάδα, βάσει του πρόσφατου νόμου της Ε..Ε, που επιτρέπει στις χώρες να εξαιρούνται - αν το επιθυμούν - από αιτήσεις εταιρειών για καλλιέργεια γενετικά τροποποιημένων (γ.τ.) στο έδαφός τους. Μάλιστα, η Monsanto κατηγόρησε την Ελλάδα και την Λετονία για άγνοια της επιστήμης...

Σύμφωνα με τον νέο νόμο που υπογράφηκε τον Μάρτιο, μεμονωμένες χώρες της μπορούν να ζητήσουν τον αποκλεισμό τους από κάθε αίτηση έγκρισης για την καλλιέργεια Γ.Τ.Ο.

Ενώ η Ευρωπαϊκή Επιτροπή είναι αρμόδια για τις εγκρίσεις, αιτήσεις μπορούν να υποβληθούν από κράτη - μέλη προς τις εταιρείες βιοτεχνολογίας , όπου μπορούν να να ζητούν την εξαίρεσή τους.

Οι γ.τ. καλλιέργειες είναι ιδιαίτερα διαδεδομένες, κυρίως στην Αμερική και την Ασία, ωστόσο μόνο η ποικιλία καλαμποκιού MON810 της Monsanto καλλιεργείται στην Ευρώπη. Για τη συγκεκριμένη γ.τ. καλλιέργεια υπάρχουν έντονες αντιδράσεις. Η Γαλλία και η Γερμανία έχουν δηλώσει πως είναι αντίθετες με την καλλιέργεια γ.τ.ο.. Η Βρετανία τάσσεται υπέρ, ενώ η κυβέρνηση της Σκωτίας απαγόρευσε πρόσφατα τις καλλιέργειες Γ.Τ.Ο. στο έδαφός της.

Η νομοθεσία της ΕΕ φαίνεται πως ενόχλησε ιδιαίτερα τη βιομηχανία βιοτεχνολογίας και τις ΗΠΑ, που θέλουν η Ευρώπη να ανοίξει πλήρως τις πόρτες στις γ.τ. καλλιέργειες, ως μέρος της σχεδιασμένης ληστρικής συμφωνίας ελεύθερου εμπορίου μεταξύ ΗΠΑ-ΕΕ (TTIP).

Σε χθεσινή δήλωσή της, η Ευρωπαϊκή Επιτροπή επιβεβαίωσε ότι μέχρι στιγμής μόνο η Λετονία και η Ελλάδα έχουν ζητήσει τη δυνατότητα εξαίρεσής τους από αίτηση της Monsanto για την καλλιέργεια του ΜΟΝ810.

Πρόκειται για μια σημαντική νίκη της Ελλάδας και της Λετονίας στον συνεχιζόμενο πόλεμο μεταξύ κρατών και πολυεθνικών που επιδιώκουν το άνοιγμα των αγορών και την πλήρη απορρύθμιση ώστε να εξασφαλίσουν ότι δεν θα υπάρχει κανένας έλεγχος απέναντι στην ασυδοσία τους.

Παρά την αναγκαστική συμμόρφωση της Ευρωπαϊκής Επιτροπής στους Ευρωπαϊκούς κανόνες, ο οργανισμός Corporate Europe Observatory, ένα παρατηρητήριο που παρακολουθεί τις κινήσεις των λόμπι και τα διαπλεκόμενα συμφέροντα εντός ΕΕ, ανέφερε ότι η Ευρωπαϊκή Επιτροπή είχε κάνει προσπάθειες να διευκολύνει τις εταιρίες βιοτεχνολογίας, επιχειρώντας να ικανοποιήσει πλήρως τα αιτήματά τους. Το 2011, είχε προτείνει την εγκατάλειψη της 'πολιτικής μηδενικής ανοχής' από την ΕΕ [fa.ev/totally-dominant-lobbies], που αφορά τη μόλυνση με μη εγκεκριμένους γενετικά τροποποιημένους οργανισμούς.

Είναι σίγουρο ότι οι λομπίστες θα επανέλθουν και θα πιέσουν να ανοίξουν όλες οι χώρες ανεξαιρέτως τα σύνορά τους στα προϊόντα τους, χωρίς κανένα έλεγχο. Οι μεγάλες διακρατικές συμφωνίες τύπου TTIP περιέχουν στον πυρήνα τους τον βασικό αυτό στόχο. Τα κράτη θα πρέπει να συνεχίσουν τον αγώνα κατά της ασυδοσίας των πολυεθνικών.

A response to misinformation on Nicaragua: it was a coup, not a ‘massacre’

There is so much misinformation in mainstream corporate media about recent events in Nicaragua that it is a pity that Mary Ellsberg’s article for Pulse has added to it with a seemingly leftish critique.
