Νόμο κατά της ιδιωτικοποίησης του νερού προωθεί το ευρωκοινοβούλιο

Νίκη κατά της ιδιωτικοποίησης του νερού;

Να διασφαλιστεί με νόμο το νερό ως ανθρώπινο δικαίωμα και δημόσιο αγαθό ζητά από την Κομισιόν το ευρωκοινοβούλιο.

Όλα ξεκίνησαν από την πρωτοβουλία πολιτών Right2Water που συγκέντρωσε 1,8 εκατομμύρια υπογραφές από ευρωπαίους πολίτες.

Η Ιρλανδή Ευρωβουλευτής Λιν Μπόυλαν έφερε τη σχετική έκθεση στο ευρωκοινοβούλιο όπου και ψηφίστηκε από την πλειοψηφία των βουλευτών.

Μιλώντας μετά την ψηφοφορία, η Λιν Μπόυλαν ανέφερε: «είναι μια νίκη για την κοινωνία των πολιτών και των ακτιβιστών του Right2Water σε όλη την Ευρώπη. Οι 1,8 εκατομμύρια υπογράφοντες της Ευρωπαϊκής Πρωτοβουλίας Πολιτών Right2Water (ECI), αποτελούν το πρώτο επιτυχημένο παράδειγμα τέτοιου είδους μηχανισμού και έλαβαν τελικά την υποστήριξη που τους αξίζει από ένα θεσμικό όργανο της Ευρωπαϊκής Ένωσης».

«Η αρχική απάντηση της Ευρωπαϊκής Επιτροπής στην πρωτοβουλία ήταν αόριστη, απογοητευτική και δεν έκανε και πολλά για να απαντήσει στα αιτήματα. Σε αυτήν την έκθεση μαζί με τους προοδευτικούς συναδέλφους μου Ευρωβουλευτές συνεργαστήκαμε για να παραχθεί μια έκθεση η οποία ανταποκρίνεται καλύτερα στην εκστρατεία τους» τόνισε η Μπόυλαν και πρόσθεσε:

«Ζητήσαμε από την Κομισιόν να υποβάλει νομοθετικές προτάσεις που θα κατοχυρώνουν το ανθρώπινο δικαίωμα στο νερό στη νομοθεσία της ΕΕ, να μην προωθεί την ιδιωτικοποίηση των υπηρεσιών ύδρευσης, αλλά και να δοθούν εγγυήσεις ότι οι υπηρεσίες ύδρευσης θα αποκλειστούν από τις διαπραγματεύσεις για την ΤΤΙΡ».

«Είμαι χαρούμενη που το Ευρωκοινοβούλιο επέλεξε να απορρίψει την εναλλακτική πρόταση που υπέβαλαν οι Ευρωομάδες του Ευρωπαϊκού Λαϊκού Κόμματος και του Ευρωπαϊκού Συντηρητικού Κόμματος, καθώς δεν εμπεριείχε τίποτα που να απαντά στις ανησυχίες των πολιτών, και απλώς χρησιμοποιήθηκε ως εργαλείο για τη δική τους ατζέντα. Πρόκειται για ένα θέμα μεγάλης σημασίας για τους πολίτες ολόκληρης της Ευρώπης, τους οποίους εμείς πιστεύω σήμερα τους υπηρετήσαμε καλά» κατέληξε.
