Έξω από τα γήπεδα η Γαλλία αναστενάζει

Mε απειλές και παρακάλια προσπαθούσε εδώ και μέρες ο Φρανσουά Ολάντ να πείσει τα συνδικάτα της χώρας του να διακόψουν τις απεργιακές κινητοποιήσεις τους κατά τη διεξαγωγή του Ευρωπαϊκού Πρωταθλήματος.

Και ενώ καθώς γράφονταν αυτές οι γραμμές η έκβαση της μάχης ήταν αμφίρροπη, ένα συμπέρασμα έβγαινε αβίαστα: Η εποχή που οι μεγάλες αθλητικές διοργανώσεις θεωρούνταν το απόλυτο αντίδοτο στις κοινωνικές εντάσεις έχει περάσει ανεπιστρεπτί.

Ορισμένοι βέβαια θα ισχυριστούν ότι αυτή η εποχή δεν υπήρξε ποτέ. Από τους Ολυμπιακούς του 1968 στο Μεξικό (που βάφτηκαν στο αίμα της νεολαιίστικης εξέγερσης) μέχρι τις μέρες μας η Ιστορία αποδεικνύει ότι ο αθλητισμός είναι δίκοπο μαχαίρι για τους πολιτικούς που πιστεύουν ότι μπορούν να τον αξιοποιήσουν προς όφελός τους.

Πιθανότατα η πρώτη μεγάλη πολιτική εξέγερση που συνδέθηκε με αθλητική διοργάνωση ήταν η Στάση του Νίκα, το 532 μ.Χ. Ηταν η ημέρα που το γήπεδο επιτέθηκε στο παλάτι και κατάφερε να το κρατήσει σε κατάσταση πολιορκίας για περίπου πέντε ημέρες.

Ο Ιουστινιανός χρειάστηκε να σφαγιάσει περίπου 30.000 άτομα που είχαν εξεγερθεί αντιδρώντας στη δυσβάσταχτη φορολογία και την αυταρχική διακυβέρνηση.

Η Στάση του Νίκα κατέρριψε την αντίληψη που είχε δημιουργηθεί ήδη από τα χρόνια της Ρωμαϊκής Αυτοκρατορίας ότι οι μεγάλες αθλητικές διοργανώσεις λειτουργούν κατευναστικά για τα πολιτικά πάθη – ίσως γιατί ο Ιουστινιανός δεν πρόσφερε εκείνη την περίοδο τον «άρτο» που θα έπρεπε να συνοδεύει τα «θεάματα» ώστε να επιτευχθεί ένα στοιχειώδες κοινωνικό συμβόλαιο.

Το Βυζάντιο ήταν ένα χαρακτηριστικό παράδειγμα αντιδραστικού, θεοκρατικού καθεστώτος, στο οποίο οι τόποι λατρείας αλλά και τα μεγάλα γήπεδα αποτελούσαν σημείο συνάντησης των πολιτών και εύφορο έδαφος για εξεγέρσεις και επαναστάσεις.

Η κατάσταση αυτή επαναλαμβάνεται ακόμη και σήμερα σε αρκετές περιοχές της Μέσης Ανατολής όπου οι εκάστοτε ηγεμόνες φοβούνται όσο τίποτα άλλο τις συναθροίσεις των ανθρώπων στα τεμένη και τα γήπεδα. Αρκετές από τις εξεγέρσεις της «αραβικής άνοιξης» μάλιστα ξεκίνησαν κοντά ή μέσα σε κάποιο γήπεδο.

Ακόμη και ο βασιλιάς της Ισπανίας όμως έμαθε με τον χειρότερο τρόπο ότι θα πρέπει να φοβάται τα γήπεδα την «αποφράδα» ημέρα που η καταλανική Μπαρτσελόνα συνάντησε τη βασκική Ατλέτικο Μπιλμπάο για τον τελικό του Copa Del Rey, τον Μάιο του 2009.

Οπως εξηγούσε ο δημοσιογράφος Διονύσης Ελευθεράτος στο βιβλίο του «Εξουσία, τι μπάλα παίζεις», ο Χουάν Κάρλος κοιτούσε μουδιασμένος τις κερκίδες καθώς οι οπαδοί και των δύο ομάδων άρχισαν να γιουχάρουν τον ίδιο αλλά και τον εθνικό ύμνο της Ισπανίας που ακουγόταν από τα μεγάφωνα.

Ισως μάλιστα για πρώτη φορά στην ιστορία των αθλητικών αναμεταδόσεων στην Ισπανία, ο σκηνοθέτης της κρατικής τηλεόρασης αναγκάστηκε να διακόψει τη ζωντανή σύνδεση με το γήπεδο. Αφορμή υπήρξε το πολιτικό και δικαστικό πογκρόμ που είχε ξεκινήσει η Μαδρίτη εναντίον των βασκικών κομμάτων.

Εναν χρόνο αργότερα η Μαδρίτη αποδείκνυε ότι δεν είχε καταλάβει τίποτα από την περιπέτεια του Χουάν Κάρλος: Ισπανοί δικαστές αποφάσισαν να εκδώσουν μια νέα απαγόρευση σχετικά με την αυτοδιάθεση των Καταλανών μόλις 48 ώρες πριν από το εναρκτήριο λάκτισμα του Μουντιάλ του 2010.

Πίστευαν ότι ο ήχος των οπαδών στα γήπεδα θα κάλυπτε την οργή του κόσμου. Οι Καταλανοί όμως όχι μόνο δεν αποσπάστηκαν λόγω του ποδοσφαίρου, αλλά πραγματοποίησαν μια από τις μεγαλύτερες αντικυβερνητικές διαδηλώσεις στην Ιστορία τους, με ένα εκατομμύριο συγκεντρωμένους.

Εξίσου αποτυχημένη αποδείχθηκε την ίδια περίοδο η προσπάθεια του Γάλλου τότε προέδρου Νικολά Σαρκοζί να κρύψει κάτω από το χαλί του Μουντιάλ τις μεγαλειώδεις συγκεντρώσεις ενάντια στο ασφαλιστικό που προωθούσε. Τα δύο εκατομμύρια διαδηλωτές που καταδίκαζαν την αύξηση των ορίων συνταξιοδότησης δεν πτοήθηκαν διόλου από τα υποτιθέμενα σκάνδαλα που αναζητούσε ο Σαρκοζί πίσω από την παταγώδη αποτυχία της Εθνικής Γαλλίας στη μεγαλύτερη ποδοσφαιρική διοργάνωση του πλανήτη.

Περίπου έξι χρόνια αργότερα οι Γάλλοι διαδηλωτές είναι και πάλι στους δρόμους. Και η μπάλα που κυλάει στο γρασίδι δεν φαίνεται να τους πτοεί ιδιαίτερα.
