EVENT: Πρώτα ήρθαν για τον Ασάνζ...

Το βράδυ της Κυριακής 19 Ιουνίου η Αθήνα θα είναι μια από τις 14 πόλεις σε όλο τον κόσμο που θα ενώσουν τη φωνή τους για τα τέσσερα χρόνια εγκλεισμού του Ζούλιαν Ασάνζ στην πρεσβεία του Εκουαδόρ στο Λονδίνο. Ο Ασάνζ θα απευθύνει χαιρετισμό μέσω σύνδεσης από την πρεσβεία ενώ στο Gazzarte θα βρεθούν ακόμα οι Paul Mason (TBC), Γιώργος Πλειός και Κώστας Εφήμερος. Μήνυμα προς όσους θα βρεθούν στην εκδήλωση θα απευθύνει και Ρομπέρτο Σαβιάνο, ο δημοσιογράφος που αποκάλυψε την λειτουργία της Καμόρα στην Ιταλία. Το ThePressProject συμμετέχει ως επίσημος συνδιοργανωτής αυτού του παγκόσμιου event και τις επόμενες ημέρες θα δημοσιεύσει αποκλειστικό υλικό.


Η παγκόσμια εκδήλωση για την 4η επέτειο από τότε που ο Τζούλιαν Ασάνζ πήρε πολιτικό άσυλο στην Πρεσβεία του Εκουαδόρ θα λάβει χώρα στις 19 Ιουνίου ταυτόχρονα σε Αθήνα, Βερολίνο, Παρίσι, Νέα Υόρκη, Κίτο, Βρυξέλλες, Μαδρίτη, Νάπολι, Βελιγράδι και άλλες πόλεις, με τη συμμετοχή του Ασάνζ (ζωντανά από την Πρεσβεία του Εκουαδόρ στο Λονδίνο) και άλλους υποστηρικτές, όπως ο Γιάνης Βαρουφάκης, Π.Τζ. Χάρβεϊ, Β.Γούεστγουντ, Νόαμ Τσόμσκι, Σλαβόι Ζιζέκ, Ρενάτα Αβίλα, Μπέρναρντ Στίγκλερ, Σάρα Χάρισον, Σρέκο Χόρβατ, Μπράιαν Ένο, Μπαλτάζαρ Γκαρζον, Άνγκελα Ρίχτερ, Κρις Χέτζες, Λάιμπαχ και πολλούς ακόμα.

Εμπνευσμένο από το γνωστό ποίημα του Μάρτιν Νιεμόλερ σχετικά με τη δειλία των Γερμανών ανθρώπων του πνεύματος μετά την άνοδο του ναζισμού στην εξουσία και τις στοχευμένες διώξεις κατά κοινωνικών ομάδων, της μίας μετά την άλλη, αυτό που θέλει η εκδήλωση «Πρώτα ήρθαν για τον Ασάνζ...» να καταδείξει είναι πως ζούμε σε κρίσιμη εποχή όπου όποιος αντιτίθεται στις πολιτικές και οικονομικές εξουσίες μπορεί σύντομα να γίνει στόχος.

Έχουν περάσει τέσσερα χρόνια από τότε που ένα θαρραλέο έθνος της Νότιας Αμερικής έδωσε στον Τζούλιαν Ασάν άσυλο λόγω των βάσιμων φόβων για έκδοσή του στις ΗΠΑ. Μετά την άσκηση αυτού του κυρίαρχου δικαιώματος, το Ηνωμένο Βασίλειο απείλησε να επιτεθεί στην Πρεσβεία στο Λονδίνο. Από τότε, δύο κράτη της Ε.Ε, η Σουηδία και το Ηνωμένο Βασίλειο αρνούνται συστηματικά να αναγνωρίσουν τις υποχρεώσεις που επιβάλουν τα ανθρώπινα δικαιώματα και να προσφέρουν ασφαλή δίοδο στον Τζούλιαν Ασάνζ.

Τον Φεβρουάριο του 2016 ο ΟΗΕ ανακήρυξε την κράτηση του συντάκτη και δημοσιογράφου παράνομη. Πάνω από 500 οργανώσεις ανθρωπίνων δικαιωμάτων, καθηγητές νομικής, πρώην στελέχη του ΟΗΕ και νομπελίστες υπέγραψαν επιστολή, ζητώντας από της κυβερνήσεις της Σουηδίας και του Ηνωμένου Βασιλείου να σεβαστούν την απόφαση του ΟΗΕ και να απελευθερώσουν τον Ασάνζ άμεσα.

Πάνω από 100 ημέρες έχουν περάσει και η κατάσταση παραμένει η ίδια, και θα παραμείνει η ίδια, αν δεν υπάρξει αύξηση της πολιτικής πίεσης. Δεν μπορούμε να παραμείνουμε αδρανείς. Πρώτα ήρθαν για τον Τζούλιαν Ασάνζ, μετά ήρθαν για την Τσέλσι Μάνινγκ, μετά ήρθαν για τον Έντουαρντ Σνόουντεν... ποιος είναι ο επόμενος;

A response to misinformation on Nicaragua: it was a coup, not a ‘massacre’
