The witch is dead: Όταν οι λαοί αποχαιρετούν τους δυνάστες τους

Η ανοχή της αστικής δημοκρατίας στη Βρετανία στους καλλιτέχνες που ζητούσαν εδώ και δεκαετίες το θάνατο της Θάτσερ δείχνει ένα επίπεδο πολιτικού πολιτισμού άγνωστου στην Ελλάδα.


«Η Μάργκαρετ στο οξύ», η «Μάγκι στην Γκιλοτίνα», «Γιατί δεν πεθαίνεις Θάτσερ;». Θα μπορούσαμε να γεμίσουμε όλες τις σελίδες της εφημερίδας με στίχους τραγουδιών που γράφτηκαν τις τελευταίες δεκαετίες και ζητούσαν με τον ένα ή τον άλλο τρόπο τη δολοφονία ή την εκτέλεση της Σιδηράς Κυρίας.

To παράδοξο είναι ότι ανάμεσα στους στιχουργούς φιγουράρουν ορισμένα από τα σημαντικότερα ονόματα της σύγχρονης μουσικής σκηνής της Βρετανίας. «Είδα ένα εξαιρετικό όνειρο με την Μάργκαρετ στην Γκιλοτίνα» τραγουδούσε εδώ και χρόνια ο θρυλικός Μόρισεϊ των Σμιθς. Ακόμη όμως και ο αγαπημένος τροβαδούρος του Μπάκινχαμ, Σερ Έλτον Τζον, είχε γράψει τους παρακάτω στίχους για την θεατρική μεταφορά της ταινίας Μπίλι Έλιοτ: «Ευτυχισμένα Χριστούγεννα Μάγκι Θάτσερ, σήμερα όλοι γιορτάζουμε γιατί βρισκόμαστε μια ημέρα πιο κοντά στο θάνατό σου».

Τηρουμένων των αναλογιών θα ήταν σαν να ζούσαμε στη δεκαετία του 80 και ο Γιώργος Νταλάρας να ευχόταν το θάνατο του «εθνάρχη» Κωνσταντίνου Καραμανλή.

Στα περισσότερα καθεστώτα με τα οποία συνεργαζόταν και θαύμαζε η Σιδηρά Κυρία, όπως στην Χιλή του δικτάτορα Πινοσέτ, στην Τουρκία του δικτάτορα Εβρέν και στη μεσαιωνική μοναρχία της Σαουδικής Αραβίας, μια τέτοια συμπεριφορά θα έστελνε τους καλλιτέχνες στο εκτελεστικό απόσπασμα. Ακόμη και σήμερα ο Τούρκος πρωθυπουργός Ρετζέπ Ταγίπ Ερντογάν στέλνει στα δικαστήρια σκιτσογράφους που διακομοδούν την πολιτική του. Όσο για την Ελλάδα του Αντώνη Σαμαρά, μόλις πριν από μερικές εβδομάδες το πρωθυπουργικό περιβάλλον ζητούσε άμεση εισσαγγελική παρέμβαση εναντίον του περιοδικού Unfollow για ένα σατιρικό εξώφυλλο το οποίο καυτηρίαζε τα βασανιστήρια που πραγματοποιεί το ελληνικό κράτος.

Η βρετανική αστική δημοκρατία, όμως, παρά τα αυταρχικά χαρακτηριστικά με τα οποία την όπλισε η Μάργκαρετ Θάτσερ προκειμένου να επιβάλλει την νεοφιλελεύθερη πολιτική της, έδειχνε ανοχή ακόμη και στα πλέον «αιμοσταγή» τραγούδια. Προφανώς τα άσματα που ζητούσαν την κεφαλή της Μάγκι επί πίνακι «κόβονταν» από το BBC αλλά ακούγονταν ελευθερα σε όλη τη χώρα, σε συναυλίες, θέατρα, τηλεοπτικούς και ραδιοφωνικούς σταθμούς.

Δείχνει άραγε αυτό ένα υψηλότερο επίπεδο δημοκρατίας; Όχι, υποχρεωτικά. Ας μην ξεχνάμε ότι η Βρετανία είναι η χώρα στην οποία έχουν συλληφθεί πολίτες ως ύποπτοι τρομοκρατίας επειδή σιγομουρμούριζαν τραγούδια των Clash. Σε αντίθεση όμως με τους νεόκοπους θιασώτες του νεοφιλελευθερισμού στη Νότια Ευρώπη, το θατσερικό μοντέλο φάνηκε να καταλαβαίνει καλύτερα μια βασική αρχή του συγκεκριμένου οικονομικού δόγματος: Ο νεοφιλελευθερισμός, όπως εξηγούσαν στο ντοκιμαντέρ Catastroika η Ναόμι Κλάιν και ο Σλαβόι Ζίζεκ, χρειάζεται πολύ μεγάλες ποσότητες κρατικής παρέμβασης και βίας για να λειτουργήσει. Η Σιδηρά Κυρία όμως έμαθε στις βρετανικές ελίτ πως να ασκούν αυτή τη βία με… το αόρατο χέρι του Ανταμ Σμιθ.

Πιο ευγενικοί στις ευχές τους οι The Beat ζητούσαν από την Θάτσερ να παραιτηθεί – ευχή που πραγματοποιήθηκε με καθυστέρηση δέκα χρόνων, όταν δεκάδες χιλιάδες Βρετανοί αρνήθηκαν να πληρώσουν το νεοφιλελευθερο φορολογικό «χαράτσι» της Μάγκι.

Αν και γράφτηκε το 1939 για την ταινία ο Μάγος του Οζ, το τραγούδι μετατράπηκε σε άτυπο ύμνο για το θάνατο της Μάργκαρετ Θάτσερ όταν μια ιστοσελίδα στο facebook ζήτησε από τους χρήστες να το ψηφίσουν ως το καλύτερο τραγούδι. Εκατοντάδες άτομα το τραγουδούσαν στο Λονδίνο όταν ο πρώην δήμαρχος Κεν Λίβινγκστον δήλωσε ότι η Θάτσερ ευθύνεται για ό,τι είναι στραβό στη σημερινή Αγγλία.
