The
Cape Ray signal to “test” the local population and the planned
massive protests
The ship
carrying Syrian chemicals, Cape Ray, is expected to reach the Cretan
shores at a distance of 30 nautical miles until next Saturday. While
the distance may seem quite long, according to some information, the
captain of the ship has made a report about "testing the
reactions of citizens" in Crete, triggering further concerns.
According to
information from the Onalert website, an additional report referring
to the "testing" of reactions of the Cretan people while
the ship will be approaching the island, was included in a signal by
the captain of Cape Ray except from the "typical" reports.
Until 15/7, the ship was located 170 miles west of Crete. Its
changing course towards the island brought many concerns.
In Crete,
protesters will exclude the NATO base in Souda-Chania between 19 and
21st July. At the same time, warning strikes and work stoppages have
been planned between 11 and 21st July, to peak with a strike on the
third day of the exclusion of Souda base on Monday, 21st July.
Protest
organizers have called people for massive participation, while other
things will be discussed, like the current situation in Gaza Strip
and the problems facing 140 Syrian refugees who came in Chania on the
1st of April.
Local media
have reported the fact and transmitted statements from Greek members
of the European Parliament who called the EU to investigate further
the situation, as there are indications that the ship is old and
unsuitable for the process of neutralization, which may take roughly
60 days, imposing very serious threats for the Mediterranean
environment.

Meanwhile,
the situation in Middle East appears to be out of control concerning
the chemical weapons too, as according to new information, ISIS
fighters seized the Al Muthanna chemical weapons complex northwest of
Baghdad in mid-June:

mid-June, underscoring the continued progress that ISIS has made in

research, development, and storage facility – represents far more
than a tactical success for the terrorist group; it opens up new and
frightening possibilities for ISIS in its war against the governments
of Maliki and Assad.”
