Το μέγεθος της ανθρωπιστικής καταστροφής στο Ιράκ

“Περίπου 200.000 άτομα έχουν φτάσει στο Ιρακινό Κουρδιστάν από τις αρχές του Αυγούστου, όταν η πόλη Sinjar και οι γειτονικές περιοχές καταλήφθηκαν από ένοπλες ομάδες.”

“Οι τρέχουσες ανθρωπιστικές προκλήσεις στο Ιράκ είναι τεράστιες. Ενώ οι περισσότεροι εκτοπισμένοι διαμένουν ακόμη πρόχειρα σε σχολεία, τζαμιά, εκκλησίες, οικοδομές και αλλού, η Υ.Α. στήνει εκατοντάδες οικογενειακές σκηνές κάθε μέρα.”

“'Σε αυτό το στάδιο προσβλέπουμε στη δημιουργία συνολικά 12-14 καταυλισμών χωρητικότητας 140.000 ατόμων' δήλωσε ο εκπρόσωπος της Υ.Α., προσθέτοντας ότι το τεχνικό προσωπικό της Υ.Α. αξιολογεί αυτή τη στιγμή πρόσθετους πιθανούς χώρους για τη δημιουργία καταυλισμών που έχει υποδείξει η Περιφερειακή Κυβέρνηση του Κουρδιστάν προκειμένου να διαπιστωθεί η καταλληλότητά τους και να δοθεί προτεραιότητα αναλόγως με την περιοχή.”

“Παράλληλα, η ενισχυμένη επιχείρηση ανθρωπιστικής βοήθειας της Υ.Α. που αναμένεται να ξεκινήσει την Τετάρτη (20/8) έχει ως στόχο να βοηθήσει τους σχεδόν 500.000 ανθρώπους που έχουν αναγκαστεί να εγκαταλείψουν τις εστίες τους εν μέσω της επιδεινούμενης κατάστασης στα βόρεια.”

“'Πολλοί πασχίζουν ακόμη να διαχειριστούν την τραγωδία που έζησαν τις περασμένες εβδομάδες εγκαταλείποντας τα σπίτια και όλα τα υπάρχοντά τους, και αρκετοί από αυτούς προσπαθώντας να αντιμετωπίσουν την απώλεια των αγαπημένων τους. Με αυτή την έκτακτη υποστήριξη προσπαθούμε να ανταποκριθούμε σε μια επείγουσα ανάγκη', είπε ο εκπρόσωπος της Υ.Α. Adrian Edwards.”

“Η Υ.Α. μέχρι στιγμής έχει προσφέρει καταφύγιο και είδη πρώτης ανάγκης σε περισσότερους από 210.000 ανθρώπους. Έχει επίσης παρακολουθήσει τις συνθήκες προστασίας και έχει προχωρησει στην εκτίμηση αναγκών για περισσότερους από 80.000 εκτοπισμένους και σχεδόν 3.500 άτομα έχουν πάρει έγκριση χρηματικής βοήθειας, ενώ ορισμένοι από αυτούς την λαμβάνουν ήδη. Νομική υποστήριξη θα παρέχεται σε ευάλωτες οικογένειες για να διασφαλιστεί ότι μπορούν να έχουν πρόσβαση στα δικαιώματά τους ως Ιρακινοί πολίτες, ενώ θα γίνονται παραπομπές για άτομα με ειδικές ανάγκες συνδρομής. Επίσης, πολλοί άνθρωποι τράπηκαν σε φυγή χωρίς ταυτοποιητικά έγγραφα, και τους βοηθάμε να αποκτήσουν καινούρια.”

“Περίπου 1,2 εκατομμύρια Ιρακινοί έχουν εκτοπιστεί μέχρι στιγμής το 2014, στους οποίους συμπεριλαμβάνονται περισσότεροι από 600.000 που έφυγαν λόγω των συρράξεων στην περιοχή Anbar που ξεκίνησαν τον Ιανουάριο, και περισσότεροι από 600.000 που εκτοπίστηκαν λόγω των συγκρούσεων στη Μοσούλη και τα περίχωρά της, και πιο πρόσφατα στην Sinjar, από τις αρχές του Αυγούστου.”
