At the time
when neocons put Obama in the corner, pushing him to take "more
drastic" measures against Russia, the so-called Islamic State
(ISIS) in Iraq, gave him a good exit to escape from the pressure, at
least for a while.
As moderate
Obama tries to buy some time to end his term with "clean hands",
avoiding a warm conflict with Russia in the way that the US deep
state desperately wants, the hunting of thousands from Iraqi
minorities by ISIS, who are trapped without aid from nowhere
(http://www.washingtonpost.com/world/iraqi-yazidis-stranded-on-isolated-mountaintop-begin-to-die-of-thirst/2014/08/05/57cca985-3396-41bd-8163-7a52e5e72064_story.html),
gave him a good pretext to distract the attention from Ukraine front
and order the US war machine to begin operations in Iraq.
When things
are not going well in the interior, the good old tactic is to
distract public attention with war operations outside the border.
It's true that the US economy does not look good, inequality grows
and Obama failed to put in order the financial system and deal with
bankers' endless greed after the 2008 economic crisis that made the
US and Europe to struggle until today to stabilize the national
economies. The visit that Obama received from leading bankers
shortly after the announcement of the US government shutdown is
characteristic and shown clearly who is the "big boss",
after all.
Therefore,
ISIS actions saved Obama in two ways for the moment. First, he got
rid of the pressure of neocons and their lunatic plans concerning
Russia

second, he found a more "realistic" and less dangerous war
front to distract the US public attention from the big problems in
the interior.
The position
of the US deep state representatives became now more difficult as
they cannot ignore ISIS and they are forced to deal with it,
especially after the recent threats to the US and their allies
(http://rt.com/usa/179036-islamic-state-white-house/).
This probably explains recent statements by John McCain
(http://www.nytimes.com/2014/08/10/us/politics/mccain-says-limited-us-strikes-on-militants-in-iraq-are-not-enough.html?_r=0),
who implied that Obama should proceed in a more direct and effective
military action, rather than sporadic airstrikes.
It shows
that the neocon political spectrum hopes to deal with the ISIS
problem quickly and permanently, in order to return and focus to its
primary target: Russia. On the other hand, Obama probably wants to
extend the time of military operations in the Middle East front,
avoiding another risky and costly wide conflict with ISIS, and
simultaneously, buy some time to avoid a dangerous conflict with
Russia.
It's not
only the ISIS "headache" that put neocons in difficult
position of course. It's also the fast moves of Russia and China in
the global geopolitical game:
What we see now, is a cruel
battle with time. On the one hand, Russia and China, together with
the rest of the BRICS, are trying to get rid of the dollar and
form their own currency system to gain complete independence, on
the other, the neocon banking-corporate puppets in the US are in
panic and seek desperately a pretext to come to war with Russia
and put an end to this threat for their plans. This explains their
agony to drag Russia into a warm conflict.
