A very
dangerous situation
“France
says some 900 French citizens are fighting in Middle East battles and
some have joined the ISIL Takfiri militants.”
“'There
are today nearly 900 from France who are part of this phenomenon,
either in the theater of operations in Syria or in Iraq,' French
Interior Minister Bernard Cazeneuve told France Info radio on
Wednesday. Cazeneuve also said that the number of French youth
leaving the country for the war zones continues to grow.”
“Security
officials fear that the European militants will use their combat
skills against their homeland upon returning home.”
“Last
month, former UK Foreign Secretary William Hague revealed that as
many as 400 British citizens may be fighting for terrorist groups in
Syria.”
“Meanwhile,
Australia’s Foreign Minister Julie Bishop said that around 150
Australians are believed to have joined the militant groups in Syria
and Iraq, raising fears of a terrorist threat if they return home.”
