Venezuela elections: resurgent chavismo and “unrecognised” democracy

After weeks of imperialist threats and opposition violence, the elections for the Constituent Assembly (ANC) in Venezuela took place on July 30th. The result was a massive turnout of over 8 million voters, around 41% of the electorate, which gave chavismo a much-needed shot in the arm. The western media reacted by trying to dispute the number and sticking even closer to the narrative being pushed by the opposition and the US State Department. With the opposition scrambling and US authorities bringing more sanctions and threats, it is now chavismo that has the political initiative. The Constituent Assembly will not solve everything by itself, but it is a tremendous opportunity to push the Bolivarian Revolution forward. Part 5 - What happens next? The total of 8M votes is higher than Maduro’s 2013 total and 2.5M more than what chavismo got in the 2015 legislative elections. This is being presented as “evidence” against the official results. This stems from a ver

Greece: a (basket) case study in savage globalization

As Greeks look inward, they see a country that produces nothing of value and is inferior to the rest of the world - despite evidence to the contrary. The country has been mentally colonized, with outside powers convincing the Greeks that they can do no better. by Michael Nevradakis Part 9 - A losing battle Greece, like other countries of the Mediterranean, is a country whose people have a flair for the (over)dramatic. Sensationalism rules the roost, and in times of crisis, that sensationalism is of a highly negative, toxic nature. A brush fire near a historic site, for instance, is portrayed by yellow journalists and bloggers as the “DESTRUCTION OF A HISTORICAL MONUMENT.” An increase in imports of seafood—likely due to overfishing in the Greek seas—is headlined as “THE DEATH OF GREEK FISHING.” This scaremongering easily permeates the psyche of ordinary Greeks. Exaggerations in the opposite direction are made about everything happening in the “civiliz

Democrats are so desperate for votes that finally admit openly that they are corrupted!

globinfo freexchange The Deputy Chair of Civic Engagement of the Democratic National Committee (DNC), Frank Spencer, made some stunning admissions during his recent speech at Politicon. Concerning of what the American people really want, it was like he was discovering a new habitable planet: We found that a solid majority of Americans wanted universal government-sponsored healthcare, and even almost half of all Republicans did. A majority wanted stronger unions, again across the political spectrum, especially workers, but everyone. Two-thirds of Americans wanted tuition free college. Non-interventionism was very popular. As we know, a number of Trump voters voted that way because of his promises to keep us out of conflicts. Almost everyone in our survey and in the polls thinks that Wall Street has way too much influence, and many people would said they would get rid of corporate lobbying altogether. And here comes the better part: Once we had

Russia to reduce reliance on US dollar & payment systems in response to sanctions

The Russian government will intensify efforts to cut the country’s dependence on US payment systems and the dollar as a settling currency, said Deputy Foreign Minister Sergey Ryabkov on Monday, as quoted by RIA Novosti. “ We will, of course, speed up the work on import substitution, reduce dependence on US payment systems, on the dollar as a settling currency and so on. It is becoming a vitally important, ” said Ryabkov. “ The US is using its dominating role in the monetary and financial system to impose pressure on foreign business, including Russian companies, ” added the deputy minister. After Washington imposed sanctions on Moscow in 2014, the MasterCard international payment system stopped serving clients of seven Russian banks without warning. In response, the Russian government ordered the creation of a national payment system. With the support of the country's banking system, the Mir charge card was introduced in 2015. Last week, US Pres
