Imperialism: How the struggle of both classes and nations creates our world

Geopolitical Economy Report   Political economists Radhika Desai and Michael Hudson explain how imperialism is a product not only of the struggle between classes but also nations, and how the framework of geopolitical economy helps us understand the international relations of the capitalist world system.

Is British intelligence pushing a new war in Kosovo?

No one in British parliament has been more aggressive in inciting ethnic tensions in Kosovo than Alicia Kearns. A closer look at her record reveals intelligence ties and “probably illegal” regime change activities.   by Kit Klarenberg  Part 4 - ‘Global Britain’ creates secret regime change army in Balkans Most normal business professionals and politicians tout their achievements as publicly as possible. Many even embellish their accomplishments to gain favor with future employers, investors or voters. But not Alicia Kearns. In October 2011, Kearns registered a company called Public Communications Ltd. The firm, of which she was the sole director, never filed any accounts before its liquidation in January 2014. Typically, British law dictates these listings cannot be deleted under any circumstances, and must remain extant for 20 years after a company’s closure. But the record of the business has been scrubbed from existence – yet another suggestion of an MI6 tie. Kearns, or someone clos

Vijay Prashad on BRICS & Why Global South Cooperation Is Key to Dismantling Unjust World Order

Democracy Now!   As a two-day BRICS summit gets underway in South Africa, we speak with author and analyst Vijay Prashad about whether the bloc — which comprises Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa — can meaningfully challenge U.S. and Western domination in world affairs by building an alternative forum for countries of the Global South. BRICS countries represent 40% of the world's population and a quarter of the world's economy, and the group is now considering a possible expansion to more than 20 other countries. " BRICS is an instrument to push forward their political views, which they feel are not taken seriously, " says Prashad, director of the Tricontinental: Institute for Social Research. Prashad explains the history of BRICS and its New Development Bank and responds to criticism that BRICS falsely portrays itself as an anti-imperialist project. The BRICS countries " are not a socialist bloc, " says Prashad, but they " don't want to

This is why the rest of the world hates US

The Jimmy Dore Show   U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken has given his approval to the upcoming Pakistani elections after popular democratically elected Prime Minister Imran Khan was removed from power by the military and imprisoned. Which should come as no surprise, seeing as how the State Department encouraged and facilitated Khan’s ouster.

BRICS expanding into economic powerhouse: Petrodollar under threat

Geopolitical Economy Report   In its South Africa summit, BRICS invited six new members: Argentina, Egypt, Ethiopia, Iran, Saudi Arabia, and the UAE. The bloc now represents 37% of global GDP (PPP), 40% of global oil production, and roughly 1/3rd of global gas production, challenging the US petrodollar system. Ben Norton analyzes the importance of the meeting.

Since then, Assange is kept in Belmarsh high security prison in London, without actual charges.   The real reason world's number one political prisoner is still kept in this high security prison, is because he exposed horrendous war crimes carried out by the US imperialists and their allies.   The ruthless Western imperialist regime wants to punish the No1 real journalist in the world and make him an example for any Whistleblower or real journalist who will attempt to expose its big crimes in the future.   And the Anglo-American axis has now become officially a fascist coalition , framed by the rest of its Western pets. US pressures Saudi Arabia to sell oil in dollars, not Chinese yuan, amid Israel negotiations

As part of negotiations for Saudi Arabia to recognize Israel, the United States is demanding that Riyadh keep pricing its oil in dollars, not China’s renminbi or other currencies.   by Ben Norton  Part 2 - How the petrodollar system helps maintain US dollar hegemony The petrodollar system has been a key pillar holding up the hegemony of the US currency. The fact that countries that import oil need dollars to pay for it ensures steady demand for Washington’s currency around the world. This stabilizes the dollar, helping to finance the massive current account deficit the United States has maintained for decades. When most countries have a consistent trade deficit, their national currency depreciates against the currency they use to pay for imports. As the local currency weakens, this makes imports more expensive and exports cheaper, encouraging the country to balance its trade. However, the United States has long been able to maintain a gargantuan trade deficit with the rest of the world

No one in British parliament has been more aggressive in inciting ethnic tensions in Kosovo than Alicia Kearns. A closer look at her record reveals intelligence ties and “probably illegal” regime change activities.   by Kit Klarenberg  Part 3 - Alicia Kearns’ record of Syria spook work ‘probably illegal’ Throughout the decade-long Syrian crisis, British intelligence ran a variety of elaborate, covert information warfare campaigns at a cost of millions annually. The objective was to destabilize the government of Bashar Assad, convince Syrians, international bodies and Western publics that genocidal CIA and MI6-backed militant groups pillaging the country were a “moderate” alternative, and to deluge media the world over with pro-opposition propaganda. These efforts were delivered by a constellation of shadowy contractors. Leaked documents reviewed by The Grayzone show that between 2014 and 2016, their work was overseen and directed by Kearns under the auspices of Whitehall’s Counter Dae

70 years after Iranian coup, the British still won’t confess to their crimes

The Real News Network   On Aug. 19, 1953, 70 years ago this week, the democratically elected prime minister of Iran, Mohammad Mosaddegh—who had seized Iran's vast oil fields from the British and put them under Iranian control—was removed from power in a coup organized and financed by the British and US governments.    He was replaced by the dictatorial Shah, who immediately signed over 40% of Iran's oil fields to US companies. The coup ushered in a long nightmare of repression, buttressed by Iran's brutal secret police, SAVAK, trained and equipped by the CIA.    The Shah not only crushed the democratic aspirations of Iranians, but enriched US oil companies and purchased billions of dollars of weapons from US weapons manufacturers. The dictatorship of the Shah fueled the virulent anti-American backlash that led to the 1979 Revolution and the establishment of a militant Islamic government.    The Iran coup also became the template used by the CIA to overthrow other government

African leaders: 'You won’t turn Niger into another Libya!'

The Jimmy Dore Show   The recent coup in Niger has spurred a global crisis dragging in the combatants in the Ukraine War, NATO states and a range of surrounding African countries. And while the traditional colonial powers in the West are threatening military action to restore a NATO-friendly government in Niger, Russia and many African nations are insisting that the colonial era is over and African countries, including Niger, should be allowed to determine their own future without outside interference from France or the United States.

Pakistan confirms secret diplomatic cable showing US pressure to remove Imran Khan

For a year and a half, Pakistani politics has been gripped by word of a diplomatic cable said to describe U.S. State Department officials encouraging the removal of former Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan from power. Last week, The Intercept published the contents of the cable, known internally as a cypher, which revealed U.S. diplomats pressing for the removal of Khan over his neutral stance on the conflict in Ukraine. Since it was published, the response to the story from Pakistani and U.S. officials has been both defensive and contradictory.   Pakistan’s leadership quickly began to question the authenticity of the document. Former Foreign Minister Bilawal Bhutto Zardari — who is part of the political opposition to Khan — had gone public suggesting that the published cable was “ inauthentic, ” arguing that “ anything can be typed up on a piece of paper. ” Even so, he blamed Khan and said the former prime minister should be tried under Pakistan’s Official Secrets Act for potentiall

China blasts US hypocrisy in violating 'rules-based order'

US pressures Saudi Arabia to sell oil in dollars, not Chinese yuan, amid Israel negotiations

As part of negotiations for Saudi Arabia to recognize Israel, the United States is demanding that Riyadh keep pricing its oil in dollars, not China’s renminbi or other currencies.   by Ben Norton  Part 1 The United States is negotiating behind the scenes with Saudi Arabia, pressuring the country to keep selling its oil in dollars. Washington is concerned that Riyadh may price its crude in other currencies, particularly China’s renminbi. Saudi Arabia is one of the world’s top three oil producers. Since the 1970s, Riyadh has agreed to sell its crude in dollars, helping maintain the greenback’s hegemonic status as the global reserve currency. The Wall Street Journal reported that the US is working on a diplomatic deal in which Saudi Arabia would agree to normalize relations with Israel’s apartheid regime. In return, Riyadh wants Washington to pledge to always protect it, as well as help in developing a nuclear program. Although the negotiations are ostensibly about Israel-Palestine, the

How liberal comedians became lap dogs for establishment power

The Real News Network   The fusion of politics, news, and entertainment has given prominence to comics like Jimmy Kimmel, Stephen Colbert, Seth Meyers, and Bill Maher, who serve as attack dogs for the Democratic Party, which has joined forces with the establishment wing of the old Republican Party against Donald Trump and his supporters. By belittling Trump and his followers, these comics feed the smug, self-righteousness of the ruling establishment, bolstering their sense of moral and intellectual superiority. All the while, they remain comfortably constrained by the corporations and advertisers that employ them. They function as court jesters, never questioning the right of the rulers to rule or the terrible social injustices built into a rigged system. They serve as attack dogs for establishment power, directing their comedic barbs at critics of the system, even if these critics come from the left. Comedian and political commentator Lee Camp joins The Chris Hedges Report to discuss

She concluded her remarks by demanding London take decisive action. “ The government…must recognise that the power to deter sits in this House and [the Foreign Office]. We can do this, ” Kearns fulminated, before proposing London post peacekeeping troops throughout the region, to counter Serbia’s purported threats. She added: “ The UK has an independent voice within the quint and the international arena to say no to the EU and t

A guide to understanding the hoax of the Century

Thirteen ways of looking at disinformation   by Jacob Siegel   Part 11 - Hunter’s Laptops: The Exception to the Rule The laptops are real. The FBI has known this since 2019, when it first took possession of them. When the New York Post attempted to report on them, dozens of the most senior national security officials in the United States lied to the public, claiming the laptops were likely part of a Russian “disinformation” plot. Twitter, Facebook, and Google, operating as fully integrated branches of the state security infrastructure, carried out the government’s censorship orders based on that lie. The press swallowed the lie and cheered on the censorship. The story of the laptops has been framed as many things, but the most fundamental truth about it is that it was the successful culmination of the yearslong effort to create a shadow regulatory bureaucracy built specifically to prevent a repeat of Trump’s 2016 victory. It may be impossible to know exactly what effect the ban on rep

Leaked documents reveal Reuters helped overthrow Egyptian democracy

Reuters served as a channel for the UK Foreign Office to covertly fund an Egyptian outlet that clamored for the overthrow of the country’s first democratically elected leader, leaked documents show.   by Kit Klarenberg   Part 4 - Aswat Masriya whitewashes reality of Sisi’s Egypt   Neither Aswat Masriya nor Reuters ever mentioned these bombshell disclosures. The former was also by-and-large silent when in August 2013, Egyptian security forces under Sisi’s command brutally crushed a protest in Rabaa al-Adawiya Square in Cairo, slaughtering at least 817 people. Human Rights Watch dubbed the bloodshed “ perhaps the largest mass killing of protesters on a single day in modern history. ” “ Using armoured personnel carriers, bulldozers, ground forces and snipers, police and army personnel attacked the makeshift protest camp and gunned down protesters, ” the organization recorded. Nonetheless, Aswat Masriya published an official investigation into the massacre which blamed the gross death t

US general confronted for overthrowing 11 African governments since 2008

The Jimmy Dore Show   The United States has for decades been committed to educating military leaders from developing nations — so that those military leaders can then return to their countries and stage violent coups. France is bombing Niger & the US is ready to join!

But this latest coup threatens all that, especially France’s access to cheap yellowcake to run France’s nuclear power plants.

CNN Poll: Majority of Americans oppose more US aid for Ukraine in war with Russia

Most Americans oppose Congress authorizing additional funding to support Ukraine in its war with Russia, according to a new CNN poll conducted by SSRS, as the public splits over whether the US has already done enough to assist Ukraine. Overall, 55% say the US Congress should not authorize additional funding to support Ukraine vs. 45% who say Congress should authorize such funding. And 51% say that the US has already done enough to help Ukraine while 48% say it should do more. A poll conducted in the early days of the Russian invasion in late February 2022 found 62% who felt the US should have been doing more. Partisan divisions have widened since that poll, too, with most Democrats and Republicans now on opposing sides of questions on the US role in Ukraine.  [...] Republicans broadly say that Congress should not authorize new funding (71%) and that the US has done enough to assist Ukraine (59%). Among Democrats, most say the opposite, 62% favor additional funding and 61% say that the

The privatization of Ukraine has started

The under-formation Bank for Reconstruction of Ukraine will be run by BlackRock (the world's largest investment portfolio company) and banking giant JPMorgan   by Kyra Adam Part 3 - $411 billion is needed World Bank's first estimations indicate that Ukraine would immediately need $411 billion for its reconstruction if the war were to stop now. It goes without saying that if the parties involved show no inclination for a compromising peaceful solution, the disaster in Ukraine will be magnified, since the inflated hopes of a heavy "Ukrainian counterattack" have neither been confirmed nor are about to be seen. And this means that the longer war and destruction persist, the more the profit-making plans for destruction and reconstruction from scratch will increase ... with interest. European countries and those with the weakest budgets, such as Greece, cannot expect anything positive if their rich partners decide to contribute to the "privatization of Ukraine by draw
