BLOOD IS ON YOUR HANDS, Genocide Joe and congressional criminals, in today's IDF assault killing over 100 and wounding over 750 starving civilians - as the Israeli destruction of Gaza's health system prevents even the most basic life support. — Dr. Jill Stein🌻 (@DrJillStein) February 29, 2024

While Gaza burns

The Grayzone   Max Blumenthal and Aaron Mate discuss the latest developments in the grinding Gaza war, including Israel's plans to attack Rafah, the incendiary protest at the Israeli embassy by one active duty US serviceman, and the deepening scandal at the New York Times over its discredited investigation into sexual assault by Hamas on October 7. They also cover the fallout from Alexei Navalny's death and more.

Study Finds Media Giants New York Times, CNN, and Fox News Pushing for US War in Yemen

by Alan Macleod  Part 3 - Eyes on Iran Although the perpetrator of the attacks on shipping is unquestionably Ansar Allah, corporate media had another culprit in mind: Iran. Fifty-nine of the 60 articles studied reminded readers that the Yemeni group is supported by the Islamic Republic, thereby directly pointing the finger at Tehran. It is indeed true that Iran supports Ansar Allah politically and militarily. When directly asked by MintPress if Tehran supplies it with weapons, al-Bukhaiti dodged the question, calling it a “ marginal issue .” Why this facet of the story needed to be repeated literally hundreds of times is unclear. Often, the media studied would repeat it ad nauseam, to the point where a reader would be forgiven for thinking Ansar Allah’s official name was the “Iran-backed Houthis.” One CNN round-up used the phrase (or similar) seven times, a Fox News article six times, and an NBC News report five times. Not only was the “Iran-backed” factoid used constantly, but it was

What Happens When Evil Wins?

Second Thought   Over the last five months, we've seen an unprecedented escalation in violence in Gaza. Most people I know feel like they're going crazy. We're all seeing the same footage, but no matter how angry we all get and how much we try to change public opinion, nothing seems to come of it. So...what can we do? Has evil won?

Why Israel’s War Is Genocide — and Why Biden Is Culpable

Israel has made no secret of it: it has embarked on a genocidal plan to “create conditions where life in Gaza becomes unsustainable.” And Joe Biden is its accomplice.   by Seth Ackerman   Part 5 - Biden’s Complicity In a recent op-ed for the New York Times , Daniel Levy, a veteran Israeli negotiator who has served several prime ministers, urged the Biden administration to exercise “ the very real diplomatic and military leverage at its disposal ” to push Israel to accept a cease-fire. “ That demand cannot be one of rhetoric alone. The administration should condition the transfer of further military supplies on Israel ending the war. ” The former Israeli ambassador to France, Élie Barnavi, made a similar point in an interview last month: “ You know, we can’t make war without munitions or replacement parts for our planes, ” he noted. “ Either a solution will be imposed or there won’t be one. The Americans, upon whom we’re extremely dependent, can force our government. ” Joe Biden, howeve

"United Against Nuclear Iran does not miss an opportunity to try to bring the United States closer to a military conflict with Iran. And on the other side of the equation, they also have worked very hard to oppose efforts to de-escalate the U.S.-Iran relationship."   by Alan Macleod   Part 5 - Intelligence Connections   That UANI is headed by so many state, military and intelligence leaders begs the question: to what extent is this really a non-governmental organization? “ That is one of the dirty secrets of think tanks: they are very often holding tanks for government officials, ” Freeman said, adding:                                    The Trump folks all had to leave office when Biden won, so a lot of them ended up in think tanks for a while, four years, let’s say. And if Trump wins again, they will bounce back into government. And the same is true of Democratic administrations, too.   The U.S. government also clearly has a longstanding policy of outsourcing much of its wo

It was inadvertently uploaded among dozens of government exhibits to a file share website by the U.S. Attorney’s Office in Manhattan during the bribery conspiracy trial late last year of two former DEA supervisors who helped spearhead the agency’s offensive against the Maduro government. It would be removed hours after an AP reporter started asking about it. A few days later, over the AP’s objections, the federal judge presiding over the bribery trial took the highly unusual step of sealing the courtroom while the document was discussed, saying that doing so in open court would have “ serious diplomatic repercussions. ” Neither he nor prosecutors explained what those might be.  Former DEA supervisors Manny Recio and John Costanzo Jr. were eventually convicted of leaking sensitive law enforcement information to Miami defense attorneys as part of a bri

Assange High Court Hearing Day 2: Richard Medhurst Report from Inside the Court

Richard Medhurst   Richard Medhurst reports from the Royal Courts of Justice in London on the Julian Assange case, after attending the High Court hearings in person. Assange is seeking permission to appeal the 2021 ruling of the lower court: a decision that only blocked his extradition to the United States on health grounds (later overturned by US appeal), while agreeing with political and espionage charges against the WikiLeaks founder that criminalize journalism. Richard Medhurst has reported on Julian Assange's extradition case since 2020.

CNN staff say network’s pro-Israel slant amounts to ‘journalistic malpractice’

Insiders say pressure from the top results in credulous reporting of Israeli claims and silencing of Palestinian perspectives   by Chris McGreal  Part 3 - Years of pressure Journalists working at CNN have varied explanations. Some say the problem is rooted in years of pressure from the Israeli government and allied groups in the US combined with a fear of losing advertising. During the battle for narrative through the second Palestinian intifada in the early 2000s, Israel’s then communications minister, Reuven Rivlin, called CNN ‘‘ evil, biased and unbalanced ”. The Jerusalem Post likened the network’s correspondent in the city, Sheila MacVicar, to “ the woman who refilled the toilet paper in the Goebbels’ commode ”. CNN’s founder, Ted Turner, caused a storm when he told the Guardian in 2002 that Israel was engaging in terrorism against the Palestinians. “ The Palestinians are fighting with human suicide bombers, that’s all they have. The Israelis … they’ve got one of the most powerf

Study Finds Media Giants New York Times, CNN, and Fox News Pushing for US War in Yemen

by Alan Macleod  Part 2 - Biased Reporting MintPress conducted a study of four leading American outlets: The New York Times , CNN, Fox News and NBC News. Together, these outlets often set the agenda for the rest of the media system and could be said to be a reasonable representation of the corporate media spectrum as a whole. Using the search term “Yemen” in the Dow Jones Factiva global news database, the fifteen most recent relevant articles from each outlet were read and studied, giving a total sample of 60 articles. All articles were published in January 2024 or December 2023. The study found the media wildly distorted reality, presenting a skewed picture that aided U.S. imperial ambitions. For one, every article in the study (60 out of 60) used the word “Houthis” rather than “Ansar Allah” to describe the movement which took part in the Yemeni Revolution of 2011 and rose up against the government in 2014, taking control of the capital Sanaa, becoming the new de facto government. Why Israel’s War Is Genocide — and Why Biden Is Culpable

Israel has made no secret of it: it has embarked on a genocidal plan to “create conditions where life in Gaza becomes unsustainable.” And Joe Biden is its accomplice.   by Seth Ackerman   Part 4 - “A Textbook Case of Genocide” There is a consensus among scholars of genocide that ethnic cleansing does not automatically imply genocide, but that the two often go together. According to Omer Bartov, an Israeli American professor of Holocaust and genocide studies at Brown University, “ Functionally and rhetorically we may be watching an ethnic cleansing operation that could quickly devolve into genocide, as has happened more than once in the past. ” From this he concludes that “ the possibility of genocide is staring us in the face. ” There are many signs that this is already happening. Reports are multiplying of point-blank field executions of civilians by Israeli troops, such as a December 13 incident in which, according to eyewitnesses who spoke to Al Jazeera , “ women, children, and babi

Secret US spying program targeted top Venezuelan officials, flouting international law

by JOSHUA GOODMAN and JIM MUSTIAN   Part 2 - TARGETING MADURO   The never-before-seen document was authored at the cusp of Republican President Donald Trump’s “ maximum pressure ” campaign to remove the Venezuelan president. Maduro had just taken an authoritarian turn, prevailing in what the Trump administration decried as a sham re-election in 2018. Within weeks, senior DEA officials plotted to deploy at least three undercover informants to surreptitiously record top officials suspected of converting Venezuela into a narco state. But because the plan appeared to run roughshod over Venezuelan and international law, it required the approval of what is known as the Sensitive Activity Review Committee, or SARC, a secretive panel of senior State and Justice Department officials that is reserved for the most sensitive DEA cases involving tricky ethical, legal or foreign policy considerations. It marked an aggressive expansion of “Money Badger,” which the DEA and prosecutors in Miami created

How Gaza Destroyed The Media's Legitimacy?

Owen Jones   Will the mainstream media ever recover? With honourable exceptions, there has been an abject failure to cover Israel's onslaught against Gaza. Double standards, minimising horror, refusing to attribute responsibility for crimes, a failure to frame reality as it is, deferring to Israeli and US claims - we could go on.

CNN staff say network’s pro-Israel slant amounts to ‘journalistic malpractice’

Insiders say pressure from the top results in credulous reporting of Israeli claims and silencing of Palestinian perspectives   by Chris McGreal  Part 2 - Edicts from on high At Thompson’s first editorial meeting, two days after the 7 October Hamas attack, the new network chief described CNN’s coverage of the rapidly moving story as “ basically great ”. Thompson then said he wanted viewers to understand what Hamas is, what it stands for and what it was trying to achieve with the attack. Some of those listening thought that a laudable journalistic goal. But they said that in time it became clear he had more specific expectations for how journalists should cover the group. In late October, as the Palestinian death toll rose sharply from Israeli bombing with more than 2,700 children killed according to the Gaza health ministry, and as Israel prepared for its ground invasion, a set of guidelines landed in CNN staff inboxes. A note at the top of the two-page memo pointed to an instruction “

Israel’s Looming Invasion of Rafah is the “Worst-Case Scenario”

Democracy Now!   The United States, the European Union and countries around the world are warning Israel against a ground invasion of Rafah in southern Gaza. As Palestinian human rights attorney Noura Erakat says: “ This is disproportionate, excessive force that is meant to terrorize a population, ” and “ Israel must stop its genocidal campaign now. ” Erakat also responds to news that one of President Biden’s top foreign policy aides has admitted the administration has made “missteps” in the Middle East, and discusses calls to stop arms transfers under international law to prevent war crimes.
