The corporation that owns the shuttered nuclear plant on Three Mile Island on Friday announced a deal with Microsoft to reopen the facility to provide power to the tech company for data centers using artificial intelligence. Three Mile Island is well-known as the site of largest nuclear disaster in U.S. history—a reactor there, Unit 2, partially melted down in 1979. However, the site's other reactor, Unit 1, continued to operate safely until 2019, when it was closed for economic reasons. With the help of tax breaks from the Inflation Reduction Act (IRA), plant owner Constellation Energy plans to spend $1.6 billion to restart Unit 1, with all of the power going to Microsoft for the first 20 years. Israel has killed 1,151 workers in Gaza’s healthcare system since October 2023, according to the Palestinian Ministry of Health. Among the dead are 260 nurses, 184 health associates, 165 physicians, and 76 pharmacists, along with hundreds of management and support staff. While most of the victims’ names have been confirmed by health authorities, over 150 confirmations are still pending due to Israel’s refusal to release the martyrs’ bodies. In addition to those killed, hundreds of health workers remain imprisoned, where they face abuse and torture, as documented by international organizations. Ziad Muhammad Al-Dalu, a physician from Al-Shifa Hospital, was among those who died in Israeli custody, as reported by the Ministry of Health. The Jimmy Dore Show   At least fourteen people have been killed and another estimated 450 people injured after radio communications devices owned by Hezbollah members exploded in Beirut on Wednesday, the Health Ministry said. The new wave of detonations follows a series of similar, simultaneous explosions on Tuesday in Lebanon and Syria, which reportedly killed at least 12 people, including two children, and wounded nearly 3,000. Reports say that the second day of the attack included devices like handheld, walkie-talkie portable radios and solar equipment, rather than pagers—the devices involved in the previous wave of explosions.

Democracy Now!   Top United Nations human rights experts have condemned Western nations for supporting Israel's devastating war on Gaza, urging the world to stop an unfolding genocide in Palestine. This comes as the U.N. special rapporteur on the right to food, Michael Fakhri, is accusing Israel in a new report of carrying out a deliberate starvation campaign in Gaza.    " What we are witnessing in Gaza is the starvation of 2.3 million Palestinians. The Israeli military killed at least 710 Palestinian babies before they made it to their first birthday, the equivalent of two infants under one-year-old killed by Israel every day for nearly a year. That’s according to a 649-page document published by the Ministry of Health in Gaza on Sunday listing the names of tens of thousands Palestinians killed by Israel between October 7 and August 31. Of the 40,738 the ministry has confirmed dead, it has biographical information—including identification number, gender, date of birth, and age—for 34,344. Because the ministry does not have complete biographical information for the remaining 6,394, it has not listed their names. The list starts with the youngest victims.
