The facts about Venezuela’s May 20th Presidential Election

Despite a high level of election transparency, one that Jimmy Carter called “the best in the world”, the US and its allies have accused Venezuela of election fraud. Caleb Maupin breaks down how Venezuela’s electoral system really works. by Caleb T. Maupin Part 1 The State Department has announced that the United States, unlike Russia and China, will not recognize the results of Venezuela’s May 20 election. Canada and a few Latin American allies of the U.S. joined in rejecting the results. The vote re-elected Nicolas Maduro to a second six-year presidential term. Maduro, who won a solid majority of 67 percent of votes cast, is a former bus driver and labor activist, and leads the United Socialist Party (PSUV). The stated goal of the Bolivarian process is to bring Venezuela toward “21st C

For Ecuador, currying favor with Washington is as simple as sacrificing Julian Assange

Ecuadorian President Lenin Moreno has made no secret of his annoyance with the man he refers to a “hacker,” calling Assange “a stone in his shoe” as Ecuador seeks to restructure itself as a trusted ally of the United States. by Elliott Gabriel Part 4 - “Operation: Hotel” – espionage or simple state security? While no longer facing rape allegations from Swedish prosecutors, Assange is still sought by British authorities for skipping bail and accepting the offer of asylum from former Ecuadorian President Correa. Any attempt by Assange to leave the embassy would result in his arrest and detention in the U.K. for more than a year, followed by possible extradition to the United States. While he could contest prosecution by the U.S., his time in prison would be virtually assured. The decision by Moreno to pull security from the facility comes after an “investigation” by The Guardian and right-wing research group Focus Ecuador was released this week. The report revealed

Stock market: one of the biggest frauds in the age of financial capitalism

globinfo freexchange Lee Camp speaks with Tan Liu about his revealing book The Ponzi Factor , where Liu exposes all the big fraud of the stock market. Liu explains why the s tock m arket, especially today, in the era of financial capitalism, is the purest definition of a Ponzi scheme: The issue, of course, is profits from stocks and what makes a stock price move, is not the earnings and growth. It is actually money from another investor. Now, is there a connection at all with respect to earnings and growth and this price movement? Yes, it's called a speculative connection . It is not a legal one. It is not a logical one. It is not a definitive, or, a mathematical one. The SEC defines three basic features of a Ponzi scheme: One, it is an investment scenario. Two, the investment profits come from other investors. Three, the investors think the profits come from somewhere else. What we can clearly observe every single day, every sing

The dirty role of key US NGOs briefly explained

globinfo freexchange Ukraine, Arab Spring, Syria, Venezuela. These are only some few geopolitical fields in which key US NGOs played a central role through dirty covert operations, aiming regime change. This is not to say that all NGOs are Trojan horses. It is not the case that every group or program that receives money from US aid or the National Endowment for Democracy or a similar organization is thereby automatically a deep state change agent, that is not how the Trojan horse technique works, no. What makes these NGOs so effective as disguises for regime change operations is that much of the time they are doing what they claim to be doing providing aid assistance and charity where it is needed. It is for this very reason that the US and its allies can so effectively smear NGO skeptics as crazy.

Moreno’s overtures to Washington follow a 10-year policy toward the U.S. under the former administration of leftist economist Correa, who sought to undo the neoliberalism and meddling imposed on the country through a progressive movement dubbed the “Citizens’ Revolution.” Since coming to power last May, Moreno has sought to undo his former leader’s legacy in a frenzied process that detractors point to as proof of his treacherous “Judas” nature . This has included jailing deposed Vice Pre

An open letter to Federica Mogherini and the European imperative to save the Iran nuclear deal

Save the Iran nuclear deal We, the undersigned, thank you for your speech on 8th May 2018, pledging the European Union’s intention to remain steadfast in its commitment to the historic accord concluded between Iran and the E3/EU+3, the so-called Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA). Too often, politicians have inclined to patronise and admonish, but, instead, you opted for a “universal language” of respect and dialogue. You proclaimed that “ [t]his deal belongs to each and every one of us ”, and that it enjoins us not to “ let anyone dismantle this agreement ”. But despite such salutary remarks, in the aftermath of the Trump administration’s public announcement to withdraw from the JCPOA and re-impose sanctions on Iran, the survival of the agreement is far from assured. The majority of Iranians have demonstrated their heartfelt support for this hard-won diplomatic accord. They have shown their support through their two-time election of a president promi

Last August, Assange explained to The New Yorker that he suffers from bouts of anxiety and depression due to his isolation, often remaining awake for anywhere between 18 and 22 hours per day: “ The walls of the Embassy are as familiar as the interior of my eyelids … I see them, but I do not see them. ” Rafael Correa — the former president of Ecuador, who extended asylum to Assange in 2012 while the U.S., Britain and

"The smart way to keep people passive and obedient is to strictly limit the spectrum of acceptable opinion, but allow very lively debate within that spectrum." – Noam Chomsky By Manmeet Sahni Part 5 - Questionable Statistics Moreover, the figures supporting Paez's argument in the Wall Street Journal simply don't add up. Joe Emersberger breaks them down in the Green Left Weekly: "According to a Colombian university study of Venezuelan migration to Colombia, it averaged about 47,000 per year from 2011–2014, then increased to 80,000 per year in 2015–16. "U.S. government data show migration from Venezuela to the United States increasing from about 7,000 per year before 2013 to 28,000 per year by 2015, including Venezuelans who have entered without authorization.
