ExxonMobil, Kochs, Israel pushing Washington to partition Iraq and Syria

The currently stateless Kurds sit astride the Iraq-Syria border on land blessed/cursed with oil, other resources, and geopolitical significance. Is it any wonder that mega-corporations and their client states are looking to use the Kurds, stoke conflict, and exploit the situation? by Whitney Webb Part 6 - The role of Israeli ties in pushing the partition plan The Trump administration’s close ties to Israel may also be a factor in Trump’s willingness to consider Iraq’s partition. Though the U.S. is clearly driving partition in both Iraq and Syria, it is not alone. Israel stands to gain greatly from a partition of Iraq and has worked, like the U.S., to engineer sectarianism there and strengthen the Kurds. The Kurds have received weapons, training, and more from Israel — well before the rise of Daesh, with ties dating back to the 1960s. Israel has also directly supported the Kurds’ economy. In 2015, despite warnings from Baghdad, Israel was importing as much as 77 p

Mission accomplished: US bloody imperialists put foot on Syria for good

globinfo freexchange After more than six years of unimaginable catastrophe that killed thousands, created millions of refugees and internally displaced, the Syrian war is still in process, yet, the most ruthless force seems to be achieving its primary target. As the TeleSur reported: U.S.-backed Kurdish forces in Syria — who are among Washington's most important and powerful regional allies — told Reuters Thursday that the U.S. military will remain in northern Syria “for decades to come.” A spokesman from the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), an alliance of militias headed by the Kurdish YPG, Talal Silo, told Reuters that the the United States has a "strategic interest" in the area, and that U.S. forces will be staying there long after the Islamic state group might be defeated. [...] The U.S. military has funded the SDF extensively, also supporting them with air strikes, artillery, and special forces on the ground. It was in March when th

A year after the coup against Dilma Rousseff, slavery returns officially in Brazil

globinfo freexchange Speaking to Tariq Ali, Alfredo Saad Filho, Professor of Political Economy, SOAS, describes the situation in Brazil nearly one year after the coup to remove former President Dilma Rousseff from office, revealing three key targets for which the neoliberal regime had staged this coup. As he pointed out: He [Michel Temer] is the most unpopular president in recorded history in Brazil. He has nothing to show for himself except survival, but for one thing. He has managed to implement the program of the coup. And the program of the coup was, first of all, change the oil exploration law to weaken Petrobras, the state oil company and allow transnational companies to exploit oil in Brazil. They have also changed labor law. Labor law has been essentially abolished to the point that the ILO [International Labour Organization] and trade unions complain that currently, the law is essentially legalizes slavery. It is possible to have slaves in B

US-backed Kurdish YPG reveals: US military to stay in Syria ‘for decades’

U.S.-backed Kurdish forces in Syria — who are among Washington's most important and powerful regional allies — told Reuters Thursday that the U.S. military will remain in northern Syria “for decades to come.” A spokesman from the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), an alliance of militias headed by the Kurdish YPG, Talal Silo, told Reuters that the the United States has a "strategic interest" in the area, and that U.S. forces will be staying there long after the Islamic state group might be defeated. There will be military, economic and political agreements in the long term between the leadership of the northern areas (of Syria) ... and the U.S. administration, " Silo said. Venezuela’s Constituent Assembly assumes legislative functions

The opposition-led National Assembly will not be dissolved, according to National Constituent Assembly authorities. Venezuela's National Constituent Assembly, ANC, has assumed by decree some of the functions of the country's National Assembly, as it continues to be in contempt. The National Assembly, which is led by the right-wing opposition, hasn't been dissolved and its members can resume their activities, said ANC President Delcy Rodriguez. She added that opposition leaders ignored their call to attend the session to establish the powers of the ANC voted for by millions of Venezuelans in open and free elections. " The Legislative Power has not been dissolved, as they want to portray in national and international media, " Rodriguez said. ANC First Vice President Elvis Amoroso read the decree in which the assembly " assumes the powers to legislate on matters directly aimed at ensuring the preservation of peace, security, sover

Right-wing extremists condemned in Charlottesville, funded and armed in Ukraine and Syria

Having backed a right-wing coup in the Ukraine and right-wing terror groups disguised as “moderate rebels” in Syria, U.S. leaders now confront rising right-wing terror at home. They duly condemn it, but seem blind both to their own hypocrisy and to the domestic reverberations of their cynical foreign policies. by Whitney Webb Part 4 - Glorifying foreign extremists not without consequences The reason U.S. politicians consistently support fascism and right-wing extremism abroad, but not in the U.S., is clear. While supporting such groups domestically is a surefire way to ruin one’s political career, supporting these same types of groups in far-off places is a politically safe tool for projecting the U.S.’ geopolitical will abroad. As former CIA Officer John Stockwell noted in his book, The Praetorian Guard, “ stirring up deadly ethnic and racial strife has been a standard technique used by the CIA ” for decades in covert destabilization operations.

ExxonMobil, Kochs, Israel pushing Washington to partition Iraq and Syria

Is it any wonder that mega-corporations and their client states are looking to use the Kurds, stoke conflict, and exploit the situation? by Whitney Webb Part 5 - Why the sudden change of heart? ExxonMobil once again emerges as a key player — not surprisingly, given that current Secretary of State Rex Tillerson was Exxon’s CEO when the unilateral contract with the Kurds was forged. Tillerson, however, is not the only former ExxonMobil employee with ties to the Trump administration. Ali Khedery — a former Pentagon official who served in the U.S. coalition authority in Iraq, and a former ExxonMobil executive — has repeatedly promoted the division of Iraq. Khedery is also the founder of Dragoman Ventures, a firm connected to the Committee to Destroy ISIS, which has been instrumental in bringing about the Trump administrati
