Democratic “Superdelegates” may once again rob Bernie Sanders of the nomination

There is no denying that the need to defeat Trump at all costs will be the rallying cry used to push Democratic voters to fall in line behind the eventual nominee, regardless of whether the nominee was chosen by voters or by superdelegates. by Whitney Webb According to recent polling data compiled by Real Clear Politics for the Democratic 2020 nomination, Bernie Sanders (I-VT) is the clear front-runner among the contenders who have already declared their candidacy. Indeed, among declared candidates, Sanders has a double-digit lead, averaging over 21 percent, while the other most popular, declared candidates, Kamala Harris (D-CA) and Beto O’Rourke, trail behind at 9.9 percent and 8.9 percent respectively. Though the recent party reforms aimed at Democratic party insiders, often referred to as “superdelegates,” may have given the Sanders camp the impression that they will not be subject to the same dirty tactics that occurred in the 2016 election cycle,

The weaponising of antisemitism

The smears against Corbyn and the left are part of a concerted effort to undermine a potential left government and must be opposed by Alex Snowdon Part 1 There is currently another round of attacks on Jeremy Corbyn’s leadership of the Labour Party on the basis of alleged antisemitism - or failures to deal with it effectively. This is a long-running saga. The charges against the Labour leadership have become progressively harsher: we are now routinely being told that Labour is an ‘institutionally antisemitic’ party. While there have indeed been instances of antisemitism from some Labour members, the evidence shows overwhelmingly that it is not a widespread problem in the party, it has increasingly been addressed in a serious way, and the notion that Corbyn personally is complicit is absurd. In the US, meanwhile, there has been an outpouring of vitriol directed at Ilhan Omar, a newly-elected congress member, for critical comments of Israel that have been tendentious

UN rapporteur: US sanctions on Venezuela are ‘blunt’ way to engineer regime change, causing blanket starvation

US sanctions against Venezuela are like “going into microsurgery with a kitchen knife” and are holding an entire population hostage, the UN special rapporteur on the negative impact of unilateral coercive measures told The Grayzone. by Michael Selby-Green Part 2 - “If you block all their financial resources, how would they be fed?” Jazairy is most critical of measures imposed by the United States against PDVSA on January 28, which bar American individuals and companies from making transactions with the state owned oil giant, and blocks its interests and property in the US. He said the measures are causing starvation. Venezuela is heavily dependent on foreign imports of food and medicine which it often pays for through oil sales. These generate around 98 percent of the nations export earnings according to OPEC. By imposing sanctions on PDVSA, the largest company in Venezuela’s oil sector you’re starving the country, Jazairy said. “ If you block all their financial

Solidarity, survival and sabotage: reconstructing the history of the blackouts tormenting Venezuela

While Venezuela’s government and the Chavista movement proclaimed victory over the worst blackouts to plague the country, Washington’s coup masters have promised more darkness until their goals are complete. by Misión Verdad Part 5 - Life during the blackout The blackout coincided with the end of workday for the majority of the population. Traffic was interrupted by the non operational lights. In cities with underground public transportation, such as Caracas, Los Teques, Valencia and Maracaibo, overground traffic was overloaded with the population that could not use the tunnels. Similarly, the collapse of the rail system that connected Valles del Tuy with Caracas made the transportation situation even more difficult. The telephone communication system was affected and only those who were within reach of radio repeaters with an alternative source of power could communicate by cell phone. Thanks to radio broadcasts, many knew that the blackout was nationwide. Those who

Soldiers shooting picture of Jeremy Corbyn: a military coup rehearsal?

globinfo freexchange The neoliberal regime with financial mafia at the top of its hierarchical structure must be feeling a great danger right now. That’s because there is a crucial battle taking place in the UK, one of the motherlands of neoliberalism. On the one hand, the regime has to deal with Brexit, on the other, with Jeremy Corbyn. We have to assume that all alarms have been activated considering the ongoing smearing campaigns by the UK mainstream media against the current leader of the Labour Party. As mentioned previously, a Labour government under the Corbyn leadership after Brexit will be much more flexible to apply progressive policies that will benefit most of the Britons. Of course, with UK's power structure and the elites still in an advantageous position - after decades of policies that limited the power of state institutions - it will not be a piece of cake. Yet, without the additional tight scrutiny of the EU neoliberal monster, it
