Έντονη αντίδραση ΟΗΕ στη σύλληψη Ασάνζ

Η εισηγήτρια του ΟΗΕ για εξωδικαστικές, συνοπτικές ή αυθαίρετες εκτελέσεις Ανιές Καλαμάρ δήλωσε σήμερα στο Γαλλικό Πρακτορείο πως ο Ισημερινός, με την έξωση του Τζούλιαν Ασάνζ από την πρεσβεία του στο Λονδίνο, μπορεί να προκάλεσε έναν «πραγματικό κίνδυνο σοβαρών παραβιάσεων των θεμελιωδών δικαιωμάτων του».

«Εκδιώκοντας τον κ. Ασάνζ από την πρεσβεία τους στο Λονδίνο, οι αρχές του Ισημερινού επέτρεψαν στη βρετανική αστυνομία να τον συλλάβει , (γεγονός που αποτελεί) ένα σημαντικό βήμα προς την έκδοσή του στις Ηνωμένες Πολιτείες», δήλωσε η Καλαμάρ και πρόσθεσε: «Κάνοντάς το αυτό, ο Ισημερινός εξέθεσε τον κ. Ασάνζ σε πραγματικό κίνδυνο σοβαρών παραβιάσεων των θεμελιωδών δικαιωμάτων του».

Η εισηγήτρια του ΟΗΕ ανέφερε επίσης: «Σε ό,τι αφορά τη βρετανική κυβέρνηση, όπως έχει καταλήξει επανειλημμένα η Ομάδα Εργασίας των Ηνωμένων Εθνών για τις αυθαίρετες κρατήσεις, οι βρετανικές αρχές στέρησαν αυθαίρετα την ελευθερία από τον κ. Ασάνζ, πλήττοντας με αυτό τον τρόπο την υγεία του και θέτοντας ενδεχομένως τη ζωή του σε κίνδυνο».

Από την πλευρά του, ο ειδικός εισηγητής των Ηνωμένων Εθνών για το δικαίωμα και τον σεβασμό της ιδιωτικής ζωής, ο Τζο Κανατάτσι, που αναμενόταν να συναντήσει τον Τζούλιαν Ασάνζ στις 25 Απριλίου στην πρεσβεία του Ισημερινού στο Λονδίνο, δήλωσε στους δημοσιογράφους πως δεν θα ακυρώσει το ταξίδι του και προβλέπει να «τον επισκεφθεί και να του μιλήσει σε ένα αστυνομικό τμήμα ή όπου αλλού μπορεί να κρατείται στο Ηνωμένο Βασίλειο».

Ο Κανατάτσι εξήγησε πως η Υπάτη Αρμοστεία του ΟΗΕ για τα δικαιώματα του Ανθρώπου θα στείλει «εντός της ημέρας επίσημο αίτημα στην κυβέρνηση του Ηνωμένου Βασιλείου» προκειμένου να έχει «πρόσβαση στον κ. Ασάνζ την Πέμπτη, 25 Απριλίου, ανεξάρτητα από τον τόπο όπου κρατείται».

«Αν απελαθεί από το Ηνωμένο Βασίλειο προς τις Ηνωμένες Πολιτείες, θα διαβιβάσω το αίτημά μου για πρόσβαση στην κυβέρνηση των Ηνωμένων Πολιτειών», είπε κι έκλεισε τονίζοντας με νόημα: «Όπου κι αν κρατείται, όπου κι αν βρίσκεται, η εντολή μου θα εφαρμοστεί».

A response to misinformation on Nicaragua: it was a coup, not a ‘massacre’

There is so much misinformation in mainstream corporate media about recent events in Nicaragua that it is a pity that Mary Ellsberg’s article for Pulse has added to it with a seemingly leftish critique.
