How the Republicans and the ultra-conservative right allying with the corporate Dems to get rid of Bernie Sanders and what does that tell us
In the following video, Mike Figueredo, of the The Humanist Report, refers to an article published by Politico under the title Republicans pray for Bernie as Democratic nominee.
Figueredo and other progressives - like Kyle Kulinski of the Secular Talk - say that the whole thing comes partly out of totally wrong estimations by the Republicans and the corporate Democrats about Bernie Sanders' actual strength and popularity.
Yet, Figueredo goes a little bit further. He supports that the Republicans are bluffing. So, they are trying to appear over-confident against a potential victory of Bernie Sanders in the Democratic primaries, acting like they want him to run against Donald Trump. So, the goal is to scare the corporate Democrats and push them to sabotage Bernie Sanders again, like they did in 2016. In other words, they try to push corporate Democrats to do the job for them and get rid of Bernie Sanders. And that's because they know that against any corporate Democrat, Trump will have far more better chances to win again.
Figueredo's theory is solid and makes sense. Remember, the mainstream media were monitoring Bernie's popularity against Trump's even before Hillary's victory in the primaries. A victory that came mainly because of the dirty war against Bernie Sanders by the DNC. As we wrote right after the 2016 elections:
... you could witness the first signs of fear and embarrassment on pundits' voices and faces, when they were monitoring the rapid rise of Bernie against Hillary. And then, consider this: why they were constantly monitoring Bernie's and Hillary's strength against Trump's, with such an anxiety? The answer is simple: because they wanted to see whether they should act seriously to put Bernie out of the game by all means.
When they saw with terror that Bernie was beating Trump by a far more significant percentage than Hillary, they knew that they had to get rid of him. It was much easier to do it in the primaries with the unfair and undemocratic system of superdelegates and the inside war from DNC.
So, the Republicans knew already since 2016 that Bernie could easily beat Trump.
Yet, the whole story shows something that goes even deeper than Figueredo's theory. It shows that the Republicans, the ultra-conservatives and the corporate Democrats essentially work together on a common mission: to get rid of Bernie Sanders by all means.
Think about it. The article mentioned in the first paragraph was published by Politico, a liberal pro-establishment medium. It is too convenient - the hostility of the liberal mainstream media against Bernie Sanders is quite evident. They frequently attempt to smear him - rather indirectly - in order to promote the establishment candidates of the Democratic party.
And the liberal media already recruit mainstream personalities to scare moderate voters and drive them back to the neoliberal center. That's the real goal. That's what the corporate Democrats want, even if it takes another big defeat by Donald Trump.
So, briefly, here is the common strategy of the GOP/DNC unholly alliance: the Republicans pretend to be happy with Bernie Sanders in the Democratic leadership, looking confident that they will win. The liberal media spread the 'rumour' to scare many moderate voters and drive them back to the center. The corporate Democrats grab the opportunity to promote someone like Joe Biden or Kamala Harris against Bernie Sanders.
Above all, the whole story is another proof of what many of us already knew. That the corporate Democrats, the Republicans and even the ultra-conservative right are all parts of the establishment. Apart from some ideological differences they share a common mission: to maintain the current status and prevent a radical change that would severely damage the interests of their wealthy donors.
