Πως να καταστρέψετε μια ολόκληρη χώρα

Από μια πρόσφατη έκθεση 188 σελίδων του Παγκόσμιου Οργανισμού Υγείας (ΠΟΥ) βγαίνουν τα ακόλουθα φρικτά και αποκρουστικά στοιχεία:

  • Το ποσοστό αυτοκτονιών αυξήθηκε κατά 40% μόνο για το πρώτο εξάμηνο του 2011.

  • Οι φόνοι διπλασιάστηκαν.

  • 9.100 γιατροί στην Ελλάδα, σχεδόν ένας στους επτά, απολύθηκαν.

Οι γιατροί αυτοί ανήκουν πλέον στο 27.6% των ανέργων. Ως μέτρο σύγκρισης, στο αποκορύφωμα της Μεγάλης Ύφεσης [της δεκαετίας του 30], η ανεργία στις Ηνωμένες Πολιτείες ήταν χαμηλότερη από αυτό το ποσοστό. Η ανεργία στους νέους κάτω των 25 ετών στην Ελλάδα, άγγιξε το εφιαλτικό ποσοστό του 64,9% τον Μάιο. (Παρόλο που το ποσοστό ανεργίας το 2008 στην Ελλάδα ήταν μόλις 7%).

Είμαι σίγουρος ότι οι φίλοι μου στο Κίνημα του Τσαγιού θα κατηγορήσουν την ολοκληρωμένη υγειονομική περίθαλψη, τις πληρωμένες αναρρωτικές άδειες και τις "γενναίες" παροχές ανεργίας, γι'αυτή την καταστροφή. "Αν απλά σταματήσουμε να βοηθάμε τους ανθρώπους, τότε δεν θα χρειάζονται τη βοήθεια μας", θα έλεγαν. Μπορείτε να καταλάβετε που οδηγεί αυτή η "λογική". Οι νεκροί δεν χρειάζονται οποιαδήποτε βοήθεια, εκτός ίσως για να θαφτούν. Δηλαδή κάπως έτσι: "Το Ρεπουμπλικανικό σχέδιο για την υγειονομική περίθαλψη: Μην αρρωσταίνετε. Και αν αρρωστήσετε, φροντίστε να πεθάνετε γρήγορα".

Ίσως να νομίζετε ότι αστειεύομαι σχετικά με το τι θα έκαναν οι φίλοι μου του Κινήματος του Τσαγιού. Δεν αστειεύομαι. Πριν από μερικά χρόνια, εδώ στη Φλόριντα, είχαμε ένα ασφαλιστικό πρόγραμμα υγείας για τα παιδιά με το όνομα KidCare, με μια λίστα αναμονής πάνω από 100.000. Αυτό δεν άρεσε στους Ρεπουμπλικάνους του Κινήματος του Τσαγιού και έτσι κατάργησαν αυτή τη λίστα.

Αλλά ας πάμε πίσω στην Ελλάδα. Πολλοί ρίχνουν το φταίξιμο στο Ελληνικό δημόσιο χρέος για την παρούσα εφιαλτική κατάσταση. Σύμφωνα με την Αμερικανική Κεντρική Υπηρεσία Πληροφοριών (CIA), μια από τις πιο αξιόπιστες πηγές, το χρέος της Ελληνικής κυβέρνησης αγγίζει το 160% του ΑΕΠ, ποσοστό που φαίνεται μεγάλο. Αλλά το χρέος της Ιαπωνικής κυβέρνησης αγγίζει το 215% του ΑΕΠ, και το ποσοστό ανεργίας στην Ιαπωνία είναι μόλις 4%.

Επιπλέον, το ποσοστό ανεργίας της Ισπανίας είναι σχεδόν το ίδιο υψηλό με αυτό της Ελλάδας, αλλά το δημόσιο χρέος της Ισπανίας είναι μόνο 85% του ΑΕΠ. Αυτό το ποσοστό είναι λιγότερο από το αντίστοιχο της Σιγκαπούρης, αλλά το ποσοστό ανεργίας στη Σιγκαπούρη είναι μόλις 1,8%.

Άρα, δεν θα ήταν σωστό να αποδώσουμε την καταστροφή της Ελλάδας στην προστασία των εργαζόμενων, ούτε στον δανεισμό της κυβέρνησης. Ποια είναι τότε η αιτία; Ο Παγκόσμιος Οργανισμός Υγείας έχει την απάντηση: Η "Λιτότητα" είναι ο αναίμακτος όρος για μια χοντροκομμένη οικονομική κακοδιαχείρηση, υποκινούμενος από την αναλγησία. Είναι αυτή η "ρομποτική" νοοτροπία του τύπου "περικοπές-περικοπές-περικοπές" που μας στερεί δουλειές, δημόσιες παροχές, ασφάλεια, υγεία, υποδομές, βοήθεια για τους άπορους και - τελικά - την οικονομική ισορροπία και την δυνατότητα επιβίωσης. Η νοοτροπία που σηματοδοτεί και ανοίγει το δρόμο για έναν άγριο πόλεμο, όπου όλοι θα είναι εναντίον όλων. Η λιτότητα καταστρέφει μια ολόκληρη χώρα μπροστά στα μάτια μας.

Ή όπως το έθεσε ο Παγκόσμιος Οργανισμός Υγείας: "Αυτές οι δυσμενείς τάσεις στην Ελλάδα αποτελούν προειδοποίηση για άλλες χώρες που δοκιμάζονται από την λιτότητα, όπως η Ισπανία, η Ιρλανδία και η Ιταλία. Επιβάλουν επίσης την ανάγκη για αποτελεσματικές και βιώσιμες οικονομικές πολιτικές, χωρίς να υποβαθμίζονται οι απαραίτητες επενδύσεις στην υγεία, σε χώρες που αντιμετωπίζουν ελλείψεις στην ρευστότητα".

Στην Αμερική έχουμε ένα πλούσιο και ισχυρό λόμπι που έχει την ίδια συνταγή για κάθε οικονομική ασθένεια: την λιτότητα. "Περικοπές-Περικοπές-Περικοπές". Περικοπές στην κοινωνική ασφάλιση και ιατροφαρμακευτική περίθαλψη. Περικοπές στους δασκάλους, τους αστυνομικούς και τους πυροσβέστες. Περικοπές στην υγεία. Περικοπές σε μισθούς και συντάξεις. Όλα συνοψίζονται γύρω από μια άσχημη λέξη: λιτότητα. Και η λιτότητα φέρνει πάντα αποδιοργάνωση, καταστροφή, αποσύνθεση και θάνατο.

Οι άνθρωποι συχνά με ρωτάν για την άποψη μου πάνω σε διάφορα ζητήματα. Λοιπόν, είμαι υπέρ ορισμένων πραγμάτων και κατά κάποιων άλλων. Αλλά πάνω σε ένα συγκεκριμένο ζήτημα είμαι αμετακίνητος. Είμαι κατά του ανθρώπινου πόνου. Ειδικά του πόνου που μπορεί να αποφευχθεί. Και άρα, είμαι κατά της λιτότητας. Αρχίζει με φαινομενικά ακίνδυνες περικοπές στον προϋπολογισμό. Αλλά μετά οδηγεί σε μια ανυποχώρητη καταστροφή αμέτρητων ζωών.

Γιατί πιστεύετε ότι σας μιλάω για την Ελλάδα; Το 1935, ο Sinclair Lewis έγραψε ένα βιβλίο με τίτλο "Δεν μπορεί να συμβεί εδώ". Όμως μπορεί. Και είναι στο χέρι μας να το αποτρέψουμε.
