The motion
was supported by 241 MPs, while 26 voted against it.
The motion
was decided after the murder of Pavlos Fyssas by a Golden Dawn member
and accusations against Golden Dawn MPs, among them leader Nikos
Michaloliakos, for establishing criminal organization.
In a second
voting, the same day, the parliament rejected SYRIZA's (the Leftist
party in Opposition) proposal, for the creation of a research
committee to investigate any political responsibilities of Evangelos
Vanizelos, the leader of the PASOK Socialist party of the government
coalition, for handling a controversial agreement regarding the sale
of Greece's Skaramangas shipyards three years ago and the subsequent
purchase of submarines by the Greek state.
At this
stage, it was not a surprise as Samaras administration needs to stay
alive to complete the measures that troika dictates. In the case of
potential political instability the next few months, there is a
possibility that Greece will go under triple elections (National,
European and Local), in May 2014. In this case, according to a
scenario, Samaras will “sacrifice” Venizelos in order to play the
card of “equal treatment” against everyone, and gain voters to be
re-elected.
