As DNC's coup attempt against Bernie Sanders in Iowa ends up to a great fiasco, the establishment takes a good taste of the progressive movement stamina

 globinfo freexchange

After the 2016 ugly show by the DNC establishment - staged to get rid of Bernie Sanders and clear the way for its 'beloved queen' Hillary - we had to suffer another, perhaps even more uglier experience, at the premiere of the Democratic primaries in Iowa. Well, it has become a routine now.

Progressives were ready for it. And many of them didn't bother to consider 'if', but only 'how' and 'when' it will happen again.

As polls were indicating a glorious victory for Bernie in Iowa, the panicked establishment machine had very little time to deal with it. So, inevitably, its operators were about to become sloppier due to their additional panic.

But progressives had already become a real pain in the neck for the corrupted DNC establishment. They still monitor closely every move against Bernie, due to the awful experience from the 2016 primaries. Whatever the DNC tries, the de-centralized progressive structure exposes it in no time.

The news about Buttigieg's role spread very early and very quickly. By the end of December last year, The Grayzone sent the first alarming signals, revealing Buttigieg's ties with "former high-ranking CIA officials, regime-change architects, and global financiers." It was like the establishment was planning to recruit an American version of the failed coup plotter Juan Guaido, for an internal coup against Bernie Sanders.

About a month later, progressives were alarmed by the revelation that DNC chair Tom Perez had put forward a neoliberal cast of foreign policy hacks and corporate lobbyists to sabotage Bernie's nomination.

And finally, we had the complete picture of the new coup attempt against Bernie. As Max Blumenthal reported for The Grayzone the day after the Iowa fiasco:

At the time of publication, 12 hours after voting in the Democratic Party’s Iowa caucuses ended, the results have not been announced. The delay in reporting is the result of a failed app developed by a company appropriately named Shadow Inc. This firm was staffed by Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama campaign veterans and created by a Democratic dark money nonprofit backed by hedge-fund billionaires including Seth Klarman. A prolific funder of pro-settler Israel lobby organizations, Klarman has also contributed directly to Pete Buttigieg’s campaign. The delay in the vote reporting denied a victory speech to Senator Bernie Sanders, the presumptive winner of the opening contest in the Democratic presidential primary. Though not one exit poll indicated that Buttigieg would have won, the South Bend, Indiana mayor took to Twitter to confidently proclaim himself the victor.

Buttigieg's unthinkable action to proclaim victory with no data results, depicts perfectly the pressure that the establishment feels by the progressive movement and Bernie's momentum.

At the time this article was written, the DNC couldn't announce full results. Santers is behind but very close to Buttigieg, and he has clearly won the popular vote.

This whole parody depicts the attempt of the establishment to sabotage Bernie, one more time, very clearly. So, the next question that comes in mind is: What did they hope to achieve? We can only guess.

The establishment probably used Pete Buttigieg as the "canary in the mine" to test the dynamics of the primaries in the premiere. As Buttigieg has no potential to win in national level, they used him in Iowa to measure the strength of the progressive movement in real conditions.

The main target, of course, was to slow down Bernie's momentum. A glorious victory in Iowa could boost Bernie's popularity even more and make many moderates start to realize that he is the real deal. That he is the only one who can beat Trump. Then, we would probably witness a domino effect that would make more and more moderates to jump in Bernie's train during the oncoming primary battles. Under these conditions, it would be almost impossible for Bernie to lose the nomination.

Yet, the result in Iowa, despite all this travesty, showed clearly that Bernie managed to motivate many people to go out and vote. After all these dirty tricks, the DNC couldn't bury him below its favorite stooges. Bernie won the popular vote. And this proves that he is right. If people go out and vote massively for the movement, whatever they try against it doesn't work, or has little effect.

Moreover, the Iowa fiasco may backfire badly against the super PAC donors and their DNC proxies, as it has lately become almost a norm. Now, there is no doubt that the establishment is mobilized full force against Bernie. And this could motivate many people to get involved with the movement and vote.

Some may shockingly realize that they can't buy everything with their money, and they will learn it the hard way ...

Capitalism & Genocide - Yanis Varoufakis Speech at the Gaza Tribunal, 23rd October 2025, Istanbul

Yanis Varoufakis   On 23rd October, Yanis Varoufakis testified in front of the Jury of Conscience in the context of the Gaza Tribunal. His speech focused on the economic forces underpinning the genocide of the Palestinian people. In particular, he spoke on the manner in which capitalist dynamics have historically fuelled the white settler colonial project and, more recently, how the accumulation of a new form of capital - which he calls cloud capital - has accelerated, deepened and amplified the economic forces powering and propelling the machinery of genocide.

Iranian Seyed M. Marandi: What REALLY happened in Iran & why U.S. wants to destroy the country

Li Jingjing 李菁菁   Track records of Western interventions tell us we need to be skeptical and cautious whenever some Western politicians and pundits claim they want to liberate people in another country and bring them democracy. Seyed Mohammad Marandi is a professor at the University of Tehran in Iran. In this episode, he told Li Jingjing what happened during the protests in Iran and how Western sanctions hurt the lives of ordinary Iranians.

Israel & CIA Behind Iran Protests To Get U.S. To Attack!

The Jimmy Dore Show    As protests in Iran have heated up, western media has actively exaggerated and selectively framed the violence by using casualty figures from U.S.- and Israel-funded NGOs — all in order to build public support for another regime-change war. Former CIA officer John Kiriakou and guest Scott Ritter claim protests were infiltrated by foreign intelligence networks and that Israel and the U.S. are using “human rights” narratives similarly to the way they were used in Iraq and Syria.   Dore and Ritter contend that Iran’s government responded to armed unrest rather than peaceful protest, while mainstream outlets ignore attacks on police and public infrastructure. They warn that propaganda, sanctions, and media coordination are laying the groundwork for a wider U.S.–Israel conflict with Iran.

A response to misinformation on Nicaragua: it was a coup, not a ‘massacre’

There is so much misinformation in mainstream corporate media about recent events in Nicaragua that it is a pity that Mary Ellsberg’s article for Pulse has added to it with a seemingly leftish critique. Ellsberg claims that recent articles, including from this website, often “ paint a picture of the crisis in Nicaragua that is dangerously misleading. ” Unfortunately, her own article does just that. It looks at the situation entirely from the perspective of those opposing Daniel Ortega’s government while whitewashing their malevolent behavior and downplaying the levels of US support they have relied on. Her piece is an incomplete depiction of what is happening on the ground, ignoring many salient facts that have come to light and which have been outdated by recent events. The following is a brief response to Ellsberg’s main points from someone who lives in Nicaragua and has observed the situation directly and intimately: https://grayzoneproject.com/2018/08/15/a-res...

Jeffrey Sachs: The US is a violent regime

CGTN   Shortly after US President Donald Trump announced on social media that American forces had carried out military actions against Venezuela, President Nicolas Maduro and his wife Cilia Flores were forcibly taken to New York City to face US charges including narco-trafficking. Speaking with CGTN's Tian Wei, Columbia University professor Jeffrey Sachs warned that such actions reflect a broader pattern of militarized US foreign policy. By sidelining international law and disregarding the UN Charter, Washington is undermining the very framework meant to safeguard global peace and prevent another era of devastating wars.

The real reason Trump hesitates to strike Iran

globinfo freexchange   Recent statements by the Iranian leadership concerning the ability of Iran to hit US military bases, should not be taken lightly. It is not just the missile capability and - in some cases - even superiority of Iran in the broader region. That alone, would not be enough for Washington to take Tehran's threats seriously.    It has to do also with a strategic move by Iran in the geopolitical battlefield that changes the balance decisively in the war field too. As Pakistan Today reported back in July 2025:   In two recent wars that nearly tipped the world into a full-scale global conflict— one between Pakistan and India, and the other between Iran and Israel— a new determinant of military dominance emerged. In both cases, countries under pressure, Pakistan and Iran, not only stood their ground but struck deep into enemy territory with astonishing precision and devastating impact.  ... in a 12-day war with Israel, Iran destroyed numerous h...
