First we took Iowa, then we took Hampshire!

globinfo freexchange

And, to paraphrase Cohen's epic song lyrics, 'we are guided by the beauty of our movement'. The second big test for Bernie Sanders and the progressive movement in New Hampshire was 100% successful. After the Iowa fiasco, where, despite all the dirty tricks, Bernie won the popular vote, progressives put themselves in alarm mode prior to the New Hampshire battle.

We already mentioned, the establishment probably used Pete Buttigieg as the "canary in the mine" to test the dynamics of the primaries in the premiere. As Buttigieg has no potential to win in national level, they used him in Iowa to measure the strength of the progressive movement in real conditions.

The main target, of course, was to slow down Bernie's momentum. A glorious victory in Iowa could boost Bernie's popularity even more and make many moderates start to realize that he is the real deal. That he is the only one who can beat Trump. Then, we would probably witness a domino effect that would make more and more moderates to jump in Bernie's train during the oncoming primary battles. Under these conditions, it would be almost impossible for Bernie to lose the nomination.

The New Hampshire victory was another proof that the movement is strong. The establishment elements start to realize that Bernie's real power is exactly that movement behind him. Yet, this is something that they never had to deal with before. Their tricks and smear campaigns were designed to target individuals. So far, they were mostly targeting Bernie's personality, but when they realized that the real power lies in the movement they had to figure out something else. It was probably that moment when they manufactured that "Bernie Bro" myth for the first time.

And now that they see with terror all that movement power ready to sweep the primaries and lead Bernie to victory, they rushed to revive that "Bernie Bro" myth and use it more aggressively.

Mike Figueredo is monitoring the effort of the corporate media to turn their smear firepower towards the progressive movement. CNN focused on some "angry" tweets and comments in the social media to ridiculously generalize the whole thing and make us believe that this is a typical behavior by Bernie's supporters.

Yet, the anti-movement hysteria reached unprecedented levels when MSNBC anchor Chuck Todd compared Sanders' supporters to Nazi brownshirts!

Other establishment tools grabbed the chance and supported, more or less, that the movement is a kind of mob, very similar to Trump's MAGA supporters. So, in essence, they magically erased all the enormous ideological differences between the progressives and the ultra-conservatives, to make us believe that they are both dangerous groups of bigots and nothing more.

Actually, this is a typical strategy by the neoliberal establishment. It paints all the ideological spectrum that lies outside the neoliberal norm as irrational and dangerous. It is a tactic through which the establishment attempts to tie voters with the neoliberal center and prevent any further "radicalization" of the available "voter tank".

Thus Todd's preposterous comparison wasn't accidental. He was specifically targeting moderate voters of the Democratic party. The aim was to scare them and prevent further popular-vote leakage from the establishment nominees towards Bernie during the next primary battles.

The progressive movement is solid and strong. The establishment tools will try everything to cease its power. They are already some signs that they may try to rig badly the next battle in Nevada. But their reserves are sinking and their Obama-style golden boy, Pete, is struggling hard and will naturally run out of power. So, they are throwing in the race one of their own class with an insane amount of money, as another card taken out of their sleeves.

Yet, none of these will work as long as the movement stays strong, grows further and stands behind Bernie all the way to the final victory.
