US imperialists finally got what they feared in Ukraine under Trump

As we wrote back in 2022, a document by the top US think tank RAND Corporation was impressively revealing the goals of US imperialism regarding a Russian invasion of Ukraine.

It seems that the US imperialists managed to achieve some of these goals. For example, the RAND report revealed that the primary goal of the US was to make "Russia to overextend itself militarily". A secondary pursuit in the geopolitical  battlefield was to intensify "NATO’s relationship with Sweden and Finland", which was achieved beyond target, through the inclusion of both Sweden and Finland in the NATO alliance, as a result of Russia's invasion of Ukraine.

However, the RAND report was also identifying the dangers of provoking Russia to take military action. The US imperialists were acknowledging that such a development could also "increase the loss of Ukrainian lives and territory or result in a disadvantageous peace settlement. This would generally be seen as a serious setback for U.S. policy."

It seems that these fears are about to become reality under the Trump administration. And the most tragically important part, which is the huge loss of Ukrainian lives, already happened.

It would be worth to highlight that the RAND report was written in the midst of Trump's first term. This means that the US deep state probably feared that a second successive Trump term would finally lead to these "unpleasant" developments, if not cancel the invasion scheme entirely, as a result of a more uncontrollable and unpredictable Trump.

Biden's victory must have sent waves of relief throughout the US imperialist apparatus, as things were about to be restored according to the plan. According to this, the invasion scheme would be executed as planned and the war would continue - with the help of the US imperialists and their Western allies - until Russia's military exhaustion. And then, Russia would be dragged to the negotiating table under humiliating terms, including the retreat from Crimea and the inclusion of Ukraine in the NATO alliance.

Of course, a significant part of the plan, was the looting of Ukraine by US big banks and corporations. Zelensky himself openly called US big financial predators, like BlackRock, JP Morgan and Goldman Sachs, to essentially loot the country.

But Trump eventually returned and blew up the whole set. We need to understand that Trump doesn't particularly care about peace, but also, he doesn't act impulsively. Trump's plan is to sabotage the liberal project (a major part of which are the for-profit wars) on behalf of the capitalist faction that brought him to power.

That's the main reason he makes surprising moves like the recent proposition to Russia and China, for a mutual reduction of the military budget by half, as well as for denuclearization. And that's the main reason he bypassed the leaderships of all major European powers (currently under the liberal rule), to negotiate straight with Putin.

In short, through this strategy, Trump achieves two major goals. First, he destroys the liberal project for Ukraine, which is basically the complete looting of the country by the US-Western liberal capitalist faction. Second, he opens widely the road for the Musk-led oligarchy to replace its liberal capitalist rivals in the race for Ukraine's valuable assets.

It should not be considered accidental that Mark Zuckerberg rushed to change camp in the capitalist civil war to join the Musk-led camp, shortly after Trump's victory. Obviously, the hi-tech oligarch understood that Ukraine is only the beginning of a ruthless race for global domination between the capitalist factions, as we enter the era of 21st century corporate feudalism. Therefore, he decided to pick the side that, under current circumstances, has got better chances to win.

We should also mention Zelensky's impressive 360 degrees turn regarding the US "investments" in Ukraine. As he stated yesterday, "he would not "sell" his country in any deal with the United States for access to Ukraine's critical resources." Naturally, the liberal puppet wants to signal his loyalty to the liberal capitalist faction that brought him to power (in order to pave the way for the liberal capital in Ukraine), in a last desperate effort to remain a significant player during final negotiations, as it seems that he was also bypassed by Trump in an almost humiliating manner.

In any case, we should wait to see the final terms of the negotiations between Putin and Trump, and who will benefit most from the destruction of another nation by the US-UK-EU-NATO sinister cabal.

Capitalism & Genocide - Yanis Varoufakis Speech at the Gaza Tribunal, 23rd October 2025, Istanbul

Yanis Varoufakis   On 23rd October, Yanis Varoufakis testified in front of the Jury of Conscience in the context of the Gaza Tribunal. His speech focused on the economic forces underpinning the genocide of the Palestinian people. In particular, he spoke on the manner in which capitalist dynamics have historically fuelled the white settler colonial project and, more recently, how the accumulation of a new form of capital - which he calls cloud capital - has accelerated, deepened and amplified the economic forces powering and propelling the machinery of genocide.

A response to misinformation on Nicaragua: it was a coup, not a ‘massacre’

There is so much misinformation in mainstream corporate media about recent events in Nicaragua that it is a pity that Mary Ellsberg’s article for Pulse has added to it with a seemingly leftish critique. Ellsberg claims that recent articles, including from this website, often “ paint a picture of the crisis in Nicaragua that is dangerously misleading. ” Unfortunately, her own article does just that. It looks at the situation entirely from the perspective of those opposing Daniel Ortega’s government while whitewashing their malevolent behavior and downplaying the levels of US support they have relied on. Her piece is an incomplete depiction of what is happening on the ground, ignoring many salient facts that have come to light and which have been outdated by recent events. The following is a brief response to Ellsberg’s main points from someone who lives in Nicaragua and has observed the situation directly and intimately: https://grayzoneproject.com/2018/08/15/a-res...

Iran could be the US’s Boer war: a hollow victory that marks the beginning of the end of empire

US leaders anticipated a walkover. Now they’re embroiled in a conflict that could hasten the end of US economic dominance  by Larry Elliott   Nobody gave the Boers a prayer when the war in South Africa began in 1899. It was farmers ranged against the might of the British empire, and the expectation was that resistance would quickly crumble. Eventually, might did prevail. Britain won the Boer war, but it was a hollow victory that took the best part of three years to achieve and came at a high cost. The blow to British prestige – coming at a time when its global hegemony was under threat from fast-growing countries such as the US – was severe. Far from highlighting the extent of Britain’s power, it exposed its limitations. A century and a quarter later, the US risks being embroiled in its equivalent of the Boer war. What should have been a walkover threatens to become a prolonged conflict. The Iranians are using guerrilla tactics, just as the Boers did, with much success. There ...

The dominant elite ready to break the "social contract"

Hyper-automation will allow the super-rich to “get rid” of the rest by system failure Since the French revolution and the new form of the urban states-democracies, the ruling class had to make the so-called "social contract" with the majority. From the moment that the dominant urban class took the power from feudalism and monarchy, should had to find a way to protect the means of production and the labor force. Therefore, the ethnic consciousness in each state served to bound the majority in order to shape national armies to protect the ruling class interests. In exchange, the ruling urban class had given the so-called social state, labor rights, etc., through the nation-state as a carrier and guarantor for all these benefits for the middle and lower classes. Since then, there have been a lot of battles and the majority managed to conquer some benefits. At the start of 20th century, the technology progress had brought the mass production. Western s...
