In 2025, Gaza changed European politics, with countries like France, the UK, Canada and Australia formally recognising the state of Palestine, putting new diplomatic pressure on Israel to end the genocide.

As the humanitarian crisis in Gaza deepened, the Global Sumud Flotilla attempted to deliver aid. Israeli forces intercepted the ship and detained activists on board, including Irish comedian Tadhg Hickey, who later spoke to us about his ordeal in an Israeli jail.

Roundtable travelled to Ireland to explore why Irish public opinion and politics have become among the most vocal supporters of the Palestinian cause.

The ‘Show Israel the Red Card’ campaign, in which football fans across Europe turned to sport to express solidarity with Palestine, also examined.

In this Roundtable special, Enda Brady looks back at how Europe's support for Palestine grew in 2025.
