French
hypocrisy, Greek solidarity, and further rise of fascism
Another
example of unbelievable Western hypocrisy came out from France's
stance to the Crown Prince of Saudi Arabia on a visit to Paris. From

France has been accused of
devaluing its highest national honour after the Legion of Honour
was quietly awarded to the Crown Prince of Saudi Arabia on a visit
to Paris. The French government was among the most vocal
outside the Middle East in its condemnation of Saudi mass
executions earlier this year, calling the kingdom’s killing of
47 people “deeply deplorable”. Yet almost two months to the
day after that statement was issued, President François Hollande
awarded his nation’s most prestigious award to the heir to the
Saudi throne, Prince Mohammed bin Naif.
The Crown Prince’s visit to the
Elysee Palace actually took place on Friday 4 March, the same day
as Mr Hollande held talks with Angela Merkel about how to cope
with the refugee crisis. But while Ms Merkel’s trip featured in
a number of videos and photos posted online by the Elysee social
media team, any reference or evidence of the Saudi delegation was
   conspicuously absent.
[...]
Neither report made mention of
the refugee crisis, throughout which Saudi Arabia been accused of
failing to take its fair share of asylum seekers. And given the
“discretion” surrounding the visit, it is not known whether Mr
Hollande felt able to bring up the Saudi human rights record. |
In this
repulsive Europe everyone acts now for its own interest. Germany is
the neo-colonial power inside the eurozone, through the debt-enslaved
colonies like Greece. France bets on the "experience" of
its colonial past and "invests" in the new colonialism outside the EU borders. Everyone else
seeks to get rid of the refugees. Nothing has left to remind the
Europe of solidarity and humanitarian values, if there was such a
thing, ever.
Yet, it is
people who show the way to solidarity. The Greek people, despite
their difficult economic situation during six years of catastrophe
imposed by the ECB, IMF, European Commission, massively responded to
the call of the "Social Solidarity Network", to contribute
with specific items for the relief of the refugees. As china.org
reports:
|
Despite six years of recession
and tough austerity measures, Greek citizens have not turned their
backs on stranded migrants and refugees who have been trapped in
the country and cannot continue their journey to western Europe
due to border restrictions along the Balkan route.
More than 12,000 people responded
to the call of the NGO "Social Solidarity Network" in
Athens on Sunday to donate goods to assist refugees, with
compassion prevailing once more time in the debt-ridden country.
Syntagma square in the center of
the Greek capital transformed until late in the evening into a big
open warehouse where priority items were gathered for refugees.
The response to the event, which was organized through social
media, came as a surprise to the network as well.
[...]
Elders and young couples with
babies in prams, even people in wheelchairs, went to the meeting
point to contribute to the donation drive.
A chain of volunteers sorted
through all the goods gathered, from sleeping bags and rain gear,
   to baby carriers and blankets.
Social Solidarity Network had
posted on social media a detailed list with first-aid necessities
such as gauze and tongue depressors, as well as basic medicines,
disposable cutlery and food containers to be distributed to two
refugee reception centers set up recently at Piraeus Port and at
the former Athens airport premises at Ellinikon on the capital's
   southern coast. |
Meanwhile,
in Slovakia the neo-nazis won 14 seats:
“In
Slovakia, an extreme right-wing party has made surprising gains in
the elections, picking up 14 parliamentary seats. The People’s
Party-Our Slovakia is led by Marian Kotleba, known for his past ties
to neo-Nazism, including his decision to wear a uniform modeled after
the World War II-era militia of the Nazi-sponsored Slovak State. The
party of Slovakia’s prime minister—who himself has campaigned
against refugees—finished first in the polls. Slovakia takes over
the presidency of the Council of the European Union in July.”

While Turkey
continues the bargain with
the euro-clowns, using the refugees in its soil. Everything shows
that the euro-circus, sooner or later, will fall apart.
