Why Putin could be completely wrong about Trump

by system failure

There are strong indications that Moscow sees Donald Trump as a good opportunity for a deeper approach with Washington, targeting the improvement of the relations between the US and Russia. It appears that Vladimir Putin seeks to take advantage of a potential US presidency under Donald Trump, in order to terminate the dangerous new Cold War that has emerged, mainly due to the inflexibility that the neocons foolishly exhibit.

As the Guardian reported a few months ago:

Vladimir Putin has given the Republican presidential hopeful Donald Trump a ringing endorsement, reciprocating Trump’s praise for Russia. 'He is a very colourful and talented man, no doubt about that,' said Putin, speaking after his annual press conference in Moscow on Thursday. 'He is the absolute leader of the presidential race, as we see it today. He says that he wants to move to another level of relations, to a deeper level of relations with Russia. How can we not welcome that? Of course we welcome it.'

Trump responded by repaying Putin with similar compliments. The growing political flirt between Putin and Trump appears to be natural because of the nationalist ideology that dominates the political thinking of both. It looks like they both seek a silent agreement in case that Trump manage to be elected as the next US president. An agreement based on the war against the neoliberal internationalism.

However, Putin could be completely wrong about Trump's real ideological background and intentions for at least three reasons:

First, Trump is actually a political chameleon. From the 80s until now, he literally passed through all the US political spectrum, even as Independent. Trump's extreme political flexibility indicates a man who adjust his political positions according to his interests. Currently, he plays the extreme patriotic, anti-establishment card inside the GOP, because he sees a rapid rise of nationalism not only in the US, but also in Europe and the West generally.

It's not accidental that he expanded his far-Right rhetoric after Le Pen's triumph in France. From that perspective, Trump is a really smart audience manipulator who knows what the public wants to hear and adjust his rhetoric accordingly. Therefore, in reality, his political positions are not similar to Putin's pure nationalism.

Second, Trump is only promoted as anti-establishment. As mentioned already: “Although it is certain that the neocons and the US deep state prefer Hillary as the next president, Trump is not someone who couldn't handle. No matter what he says, it wouldn't be too hard to be pushed by the neocons in another dead-end war.Furthermore: “The most impressive, is that Donald Trump, who is promoted as "anti-establishment", takes more time coverage in the media, even compared to the definitely-pro-establishment Hillary Clinton!”.

Third, Trump has repeatedly highlighted the next target of the US: China. The US deep state sees China's rapid economic rise and approach to Russia as a threat to the US Imperialism. Indeed, the neocon agenda dictates (foolishly) the provocation of tensions in South China Sea. This is a stupid strategy because it forces China to further strengthen ties with Russia due to its military superiority.

Trump's obsession with China should alarm Putin. Besides, Trump plays also the card of a new turn towards a supposedly much more soft foreign policy, because the US tactics concerning the interventions abroad, appear to be changing already. It seems that the US Imperialism is turning to proxy wars as a key tool for interventions abroad due to the increasing dissatisfaction of the US public to direct wars and their high price in every aspect. Furthermore, Afghanistan appears to be used as the main experimental field of the US future drone wars: remote controlled war machines will conduct military operations without any necessity for "boots on the ground".

It's very hard to imagine that a billionaire as US president will not obey to the US deep state major economic interests. Putin should start thinking about it.

That's not surprises. The media know he can hardly win in the final battle, and are using them to scare people into Clinton.

    Damn, I meant:

That's not surprising. The media know he can hardly win in the final battle, and are using him to scare people into voting for Clinton.

(Besides, he is funnier and livelier than Hillary, which makes for good ratings).

Of course if he was really dangerous to the establishment they'd drop him in an instant, but preferring Hillary to him is no reason to drop him.

    Bable article saying nothing.
Trump sees everything from an economic point of view.
China is because he thinks China has exploited US economically and should pay more to US. EU he sees could be paying more to Nato deducting the US cost. Iran is the usual American "we will pull our pants down for Israel".
The most dangerous issue about Trump is that he has said he will be unpredictable in his actions. When you are a leader you should have clear goals everybody understand, like Russia.

Israel Shipped in Holidaymakers – Greece Shipped Them Out Again

KernowDamo   We'll fight them on the beaches took on new meaning as an Israeli cruise ship got sent packing in the latest Greek port stand-off!   Earlier this week, the Aegean island of Syros became an unexpected front line in the global movement against Israel’s war on Gaza. A cruise ship, the Crown Iris, carrying approximately 1,600 Israeli tourists, approached the island’s main port expecting a typical summer welcome. Instead, hundreds of Greek islanders lined the waterfront with banners, Palestinian flags, and chants of defiance. “Stop the Genocide” echoed across the harbour as a human blockade formed, preventing passengers from disembarking. After hours of tense standoff, the ship was forced to change course and head toward Cyprus instead, its tourists trapped aboard as unwilling symbols of growing European outrage against Israel’s military campaign. This was no spontaneous protest, it was an organised act of solidarity, a statement that business-as-usual tourism, even on...
