Μέρος 5ο - Κλίμα: Η συμφωνία θα λειτουργήσει ως επιταχυντής της υπερθέρμανσης του πλανήτη;

«Ισχυρίζεστε ότι ομιλείτε εξ ονόματος των Ευρωπαίων πολιτών, τι θα τους λέγατε όμως, κύριε Γιουνκέρ [Juncker, πρόεδρος της Ευρωπαϊκής Επιτροπής], όταν η Επιτροπή θα επιτελέσει τελικά το έργο της για τους ενδοκρινικούς διαταράκτες και τότε η Bayer και η Monsanto θα επιτύχουν την καταδίκη της Ευρώπης για τα ληφθέντα μέτρα; Τι θα λέγατε κύριε Τουσκ [Tusk, πρόεδρος του Ευρωπαϊκού Συμβουλίου], στους Ευρωπαίους πολίτες, όταν η Ευρώπη θα επιτελέσει εκ νέου το καθήκον της ως ηγέτιδα δύναμη για το κλίμα και τότε θα είναι οι καναδικές εταιρείες ασφαλτούχου άμμου, πετρελαίου και σχιστολιθικού αερίου που θα προσβάλλουν δικαστικά την Ευρώπη;» Σε μία παρέμβαση, που προκάλεσε αίσθηση στις 27 Οκτωβρίου στο Ευρωπαϊκό Κοινοβούλιο, ο ευρωβουλευτής των Πρασίνων και υποψήφιος για την προεδρία της Γαλλίας, Yannick Jadot, εξέφρασε τους φόβους των οικολόγων και των υπερασπιζόμενων το περιβάλλον.

Η CETA θα επιτρέψει πράγματι σε πολυεθνικές, μέσω του μηχανισμού επίλυσης διαφορών, να προσβάλλουν δικαστικά ένα κράτος, όταν θα αισθάνονται αδικημένες από κανονιστικές διατάξεις που θα αποφασίζονται, επί παραδείγματι, για το περιβάλλον.

Η Σουηδική Vattenfall που εκμεταλλεύεται δύο εργοστάσια πυρηνικής ενέργειας στη Γερμανία, διεκδικεί ενώπιον διεθνούς δικαστηρίου διαιτησίας στην Ουάσιγκτον, 4,7 δισεκατομμύρια ευρώ από το κράτος, το οποίο ξεκίνησε διαδικασίες απαγκίστρωσης από την πυρηνική ενέργεια έπειτα από την καταστροφή της Φουκουσίμα το 2011.

Ομοίως στην Αργεντινή, που χρειάστηκε να αποζημιώσει με το ποσό των 600 εκατομμυρίων δολλαρίων (567.000.000 ευρώ) αρκετές πολυεθνικές εταιρείες, διότι είχε προβεί σε καθορισμό μεγίστης τιμής πρόσβασης στο νερό και στην ενέργεια.

Οι οργανώσεις προστασίας του περιβάλλοντος ανησυχούν επίσης, ότι η εν λόγω Συνθήκη συμβάλλει «στην υπονόμευση του στόχου » να συγκρατηθεί η αύξηση της θερμοκρασίας του πλανήτη σε επίπεδα κάτω των 2 βαθμών και ει δυνατόν στον 1,5, όπως ορίστηκε με την Συμφωνία των Παρισίων για το κλίμα, η οποία τέθηκε σε ισχύ τον Νοέμβριο 2016. «Κι όπως παραδέχεται η μελέτη επιπτώσεων της Ευρωπαϊκής Επιτροπής, η CΕΤΑ θα οδηγήσει σε αύξηση των εκπομπών αερίων του θερμοκηπίου», εκφράζει την ανησυχία της η AITEC.

Μια πρόσφατη έκθεση, «Η CΕΤΑ και το κλίμα», που εκπονήθηκε από τη Γενική Επιτροπή για τη Βιώσιμη Ανάπτυξη και το Οικονομικό Συμβούλιο κάνει αρκετές συστάσεις, ώστε η εφαρμογή της CΕΤΑ να «γίνει κατά τρόπον που να σέβεται όσο το δυνατόν περισσότερο το περιβάλλον».

A response to misinformation on Nicaragua: it was a coup, not a ‘massacre’

There is so much misinformation in mainstream corporate media about recent events in Nicaragua that it is a pity that Mary Ellsberg’s article for Pulse has added to it with a seemingly leftish critique. Ellsberg claims that recent articles, including from this website, often “ paint a picture of the crisis in Nicaragua that is dangerously misleading. ” Unfortunately, her own article does just that. It looks at the situation entirely from the perspective of those opposing Daniel Ortega’s government while whitewashing their malevolent behavior and downplaying the levels of US support they have relied on.
