USAID: ανθρωπισμός μαζικής καταστροφής

Καθώς κλιμακώνονται οι προσπάθειες της αμερικανικής κυβέρνησης για την αποστολή ανθρωπιστικής βοήθειας στη Βενεζουέλα, κατά παράβαση των αποφάσεων του ΟΗΕ και του Ερυθρού Σταυρού, είναι η σειρά των «ανθρωπιστών» να αναλάβουν δράση. Ο Οργανισμός των ΗΠΑ για τη Διεθνή Ανάπτυξη (USAID) καλείται να αποδείξει όσα έμαθε τον τελευταίο μισό αιώνα από την ανατροπή εχθρικών κυβερνήσεων.

Οι σχέσεις του Σίλβιο Ροντρίγκεζ με τον γιο του, Αλντο, δεν θα μπορούσαν να είναι πιο τεταμένες. Ο Σίλβιο ήταν σάρκα από τη σάρκα της κουβανικής επανάστασης και ο βασικός εκφραστής του ρεύματος Nueva Trova, που καθόρισε τη μουσική ιστορία της Κούβας από τη δεκαετία του ’60. Ο Αλντο ήταν ένας αντικαθεστωτικός ράπερ, που στρεφόταν συνεχώς εναντίον του Φιντέλ Κάστρο.

Παρά τις αντιθέσεις τους, όμως, ο Σίλβιο γνώριζε πολύ καλά ότι ο γιος του δεν είναι «πράκτορας των Αμερικανών», όπως είχαν αρχίσει να τον αποκαλούν ορισμένοι. Και όταν τελικά ο Αλντο αναγκάστηκε να εγκαταλείψει την Κούβα, υπό την αφόρητη πίεση που δεχόταν, ο πατέρας του ήξερε ποιον έπρεπε να κατηγορήσει: «Να πάει στο διάολο ο USAID», είπε.

Οπως είχε αποκαλύψει λίγο νωρίτερα το πρακτορείο Associated Press, ο αμερικανικός οργανισμός είχε διαβρώσει την underground σκηνή της κουβανικής hip hop επιχειρώντας να στρατολογήσει νέους που θα συμμετείχαν σε σχέδια ανατροπής της κυβέρνησης. Την ίδια περίοδο, σύμφωνα πάντα με το Associated Press, ο USAID έστησε στην Κούβα μια ολόκληρη πλατφόρμα κοινωνικής δικτύωσης, ανάλογη του twitter, μέσω της οποίας συνέλεγε στοιχεία για δεκάδες χιλιάδες Κουβανούς και προσπαθούσε να δημιουργήσει δίκτυα που θα οργάνωναν την εσωτερική ανατροπή της οικογένειας Κάστρο.

Η προσπάθεια αποδείχθηκε εξίσου αποτυχημένη με την εισβολή στον Κόλπο των Χοίρων αλλά και εξίσου γελοία με τα παλαιότερα σχέδια της CIA να τοποθετήσει εκρηκτικά στα πούρα του Φιντέλ Κάστρο!

Σε άλλες περιπτώσεις όμως οι επιπτώσεις της αμερικανικής «βοήθειας» είχαν πολύ πιο τραγικά αποτελέσματα. Κατά τη διάρκεια μιας αποστολής στην Ουγκάντα, πριν από περίπου δέκα χρόνια, είχα την ευκαιρία να καταγράψω ένα πραγματικό πογκρόμ εναντίον της ΛΟΑΤΚΙ κοινότητας της χώρας. Εφημερίδες δημοσίευαν φωτογραφίες ομοφυλοφίλων καλώντας ανοιχτά τους πολίτες να τους λιντσάρουν, ενώ η κυβέρνηση προωθούσε νομοσχέδια που θα επέβαλλαν την ποινή του θανάτου για ορισμένες ομοφυλοφιλικές πράξεις. Αν και αρκετά διεθνή ΜΜΕ παρουσίαζαν το φαινόμενο ως μία ακόμη απόδειξη της «οπισθοδρομικής» Μαύρης Ηπείρου, η πραγματικότητα ήταν αρκετά πιο σύνθετη.

Τα ακραία φαινόμενα ομοφοβίας είχαν καλλιεργηθεί μόλις λίγα χρόνια νωρίτερα, από Αμερικανούς φονταμενταλιστές ιεραπόστολους που έφταναν στη χώρα μαζί με την ανθρωπιστική βοήθεια που μετέφερε ο USAID. Ο συγκεκριμένος οργανισμός, εξηγούσε πρόσφατα ο καθηγητής διεθνών σχέσεων του Πανεπιστημίου του Νιουκάσλ, Μαρκ Λάνγκαν, εκπροσωπεί πλέον μια νέα μορφή «αποικιοκρατίας». Με τη διαφορά ότι οι ιεραπόστολοι δεν ταξίδευαν προς την Αμερική με τα πολεμικά πλοία των Ισπανών κονκισταδόρες, αλλά από την Αμερική με τα αεροσκάφη της ανθρωπιστικής βοήθειας του USAID.

Στα πολύ πιο πρόσφατα επιτεύγματα του αμερικανικού οργανισμού περιλαμβάνεται η χρηματοδότηση με εκατομμύρια δολάρια της οργάνωσης «Λευκά Κράνη» που δρούσε στη Συρία – πριν τα μέλη της απομακρυνθούν με τη βοήθεια ειδικών δυνάμεων του ισραηλινού στρατού.

Αν και η οργάνωση προσέφερε πραγματικά ανθρωπιστικό έργο, παράλληλα μετέδιδε αμφισβητούμενης εγκυρότητας πληροφορίες, φωτογραφίες και βίντεο για «επιθέσεις με χημικά όπλα» οι οποίες έδιναν πάντα στις ΗΠΑ το πρόσχημα που ζητούσε για να κλιμακώσει τους βομβαρδισμούς εναντίον των συριακών δυνάμεων και υπέρ των ακραίων ισλαμιστών ανταρτών. Δύο κορυφαίοι δημοσιογράφοι, ο Αμερικανός Σίμορ Χερς και ο Βρετανός Ρόμπερτ Φισκ, αμφισβήτησαν αρκετές φορές τα λεγόμενα της οργάνωσης αποδεικνύοντας είτε ότι δεν υπήρχαν αποδείξεις για τη χρήση χημικών είτε ότι τα αποτελέσματα της χρήσης τους δεν είχαν καμία σχέση με τις εικόνες που μετέδιδαν τα «Λευκά Κράνη».

Τις τελευταίες δεκαετίες πάντως ο USAID φάνηκε να δείχνει ιδιαίτερη αδυναμία σε χώρες της Λατινικής Αμερικής και της Καραϊβικής, οι κυβερνήσεις των οποίων αμφισβητούσαν την απόλυτη κυριαρχία των ΗΠΑ. Οταν ο πρόεδρος Εβο Μοράλες της Βολιβίας βρέθηκε, πριν από μία δεκαετία, αντιμέτωπος με ομάδες ακροδεξιών ταγμάτων εφόδου που έσπερναν τον τρόμο σε επαρχιακές πόλεις της χώρας, ήρθαν στο φως στοιχεία για τη χρηματοδότηση ομάδων της αντιπολίτευσης οι οποίες συμμετείχαν ενεργά σε σχέδια ανατροπής της κυβέρνησης.

Στις περισσότερες περιπτώσεις ο USAID δρούσε σε απόλυτο συγχρονισμό με το περίφημο Εθνικό Ταμείο για τη Δημοκρατία (NED), το οποίο επίσης χρηματοδοτεί αντικαθεστωτικές ομάδες σχεδόν στο σύνολο των χωρών του πλανήτη που θεωρούνται εχθρικές για τα συμφέροντα των ΗΠΑ.

Εχει ενδιαφέρον ότι με αφορμή και τη δράση των δύο αυτών οργανώσεων, ο Εβο Μοράλες είχε αναγκαστεί να κηρύξει τον Αμερικανό πρέσβη στη Λα Παζ persona non grata – αυτό δηλαδή που επιχείρησε και ο Νικολάς Μαδούρο στη Βενεζουέλα, χωρίς όμως να καταφέρει να επιβάλει στην πράξη την απόφασή του.

Κάθε ενέργεια και κάθε ανακοίνωση που εκδίδει τα τελευταία 24ωρα ο USAID για τη Βενεζουέλα έχουν δοκιμαστεί σε δεκάδες ανάλογες περιπτώσεις σε όλο τον κόσμο. Και σε αρκετές περιπτώσεις τα αποτελέσματα μετριούνται σε χιλιάδες ανθρώπινες ζωές.

A response to misinformation on Nicaragua: it was a coup, not a ‘massacre’

There is so much misinformation in mainstream corporate media about recent events in Nicaragua that it is a pity that Mary Ellsberg’s article for Pulse has added to it with a seemingly leftish critique. Ellsberg claims that recent articles, including from this website, often “ paint a picture of the crisis in Nicaragua that is dangerously misleading. ” Unfortunately, her own article does just that.
