Hundreds of protesters gathered outside the Greek Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Athens on Thursday, condemning the interception of Gaza-bound aid vessels by the Israeli navy near Crete and calling on the Greek government to intervene.
Demonstrators accused authorities of failing to prevent or respond to the operation involving the Global Sumud Flotilla, with some alleging “criminal negligence.” Israel said it intercepted 22 vessels in international waters and detained activists, while organisers disputed the account and described the action as unlawful.
The incident has drawn criticism from several European countries and added to tensions surrounding aid access to Gaza.
