Demanding more blood from a devastated country

Why they persist and why now

by system failure

Latest negotiations between Greek officials and Troika lenders in Paris ended without final agreement for the moment, or at least this is the picture that the mainstream media wanted to pass.

The hard stance of Troika against Greece, with the IMF playing again the role of the toughest of all, has two main goals. The first goal is to allow the government officials to give the impression that they negotiate and resist against Troika's demands. Some statements are characteristic:

Greece’s international lenders have put the country under pressure to impose new austerity measures in a bid to resolve an ongoing budget disagreement, a Greek official says. Negotiator Christos Protopapas, a former union leader and Socialist labor minister, made the remarks on Thursday after attending two-day talks in the French capital, Paris, this week with representatives from the European Commission, the European Central Bank and the International Monetary Fund. The negotiations, however, did not succeed in resolving the standoff. He added that the creditors are still in conflict with the government in Athens over deficit projections in the 2015 budget. 'What they're saying is that they don't believe the budget will work and that we should follow the well-trodden road of cutting pensions and higher taxes,' he told private Skai television, adding, 'Our response is that we won't take new measures that will further burden the average citizen.'”

It is not the first time that such a "disorientation operation" is conducted: “Contrived disagreements between government officials and representatives of the troika. Are used to persuade the public that the government resists against some of the troika demands without saying 'yes to all'”. (http://failedevolution.blogspot.gr/2012/10/some-methods-of-disorientation-in-greek.html)

The second goal of the Troika lenders is to send one more signal to the Leftist party SYRIZA in Greece, which seems that is taking a steady first place in all polls, as well as, to other Leftist powers in Europe which are on rise (http://failedevolution.blogspot.gr/2014/11/european-leftist-domino-already-started.html), that they will not tolerate a different approach or policies other than those imposed by them for the "successful" completion of the Greek experiment by the end of 2016, according to the timeline they have set.

The time of these messages is not accidental. As we approach closer to the elections for the President of the Republic in Greece, the current government will struggle to avoid national elections in case it will fail to gather the necessary number of 180 MPs required to elect a new President of the Republic. There are signs that the systemic establishment will do everything to avoid such a situation: http://failedevolution.blogspot.gr/2014/11/breaking-opposition-party-in-greece.html

The messages to all directions by the European neoliberal economic empire officials (http://failedevolution.blogspot.gr/2014/11/angelas-double-message.html) are expected to be increased as we approach these crucial presidential elections in Greece. Their anxiety to make clear that they will not tolerate different policies other than those of neoliberal catastrophe, could be explained by the fact that SYRIZA is not isolated in Europe and this general rise of the European Left is probably not "manageable", therefore, it could set in danger the whole plan, which is the expansion of the Greek experiment throughout Europe. There is a huge battle coming up and no one knows its ending, but those who will play the most significant role are the European people themselves.

Capitalism & Genocide - Yanis Varoufakis Speech at the Gaza Tribunal, 23rd October 2025, Istanbul

Yanis Varoufakis   On 23rd October, Yanis Varoufakis testified in front of the Jury of Conscience in the context of the Gaza Tribunal. His speech focused on the economic forces underpinning the genocide of the Palestinian people. In particular, he spoke on the manner in which capitalist dynamics have historically fuelled the white settler colonial project and, more recently, how the accumulation of a new form of capital - which he calls cloud capital - has accelerated, deepened and amplified the economic forces powering and propelling the machinery of genocide.

Munich Shock: Rubio’s Vision of a New Western Century & World Order

GVS Deep Dive   At the 2026 Munich Security Conference, U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio delivered one of the most consequential foreign policy speeches of the year. Framed as a call for Western renewal, his address went far beyond NATO reassurance — outlining a vision of sovereignty, industrial consolidation, and civilizational confidence that may signal the end of the post-Cold War global order.   Is this the beginning of a Second Cold War?   Is the West reorganizing around bloc competition?   Or are we witnessing the construction of a new world order?

A response to misinformation on Nicaragua: it was a coup, not a ‘massacre’

There is so much misinformation in mainstream corporate media about recent events in Nicaragua that it is a pity that Mary Ellsberg’s article for Pulse has added to it with a seemingly leftish critique. Ellsberg claims that recent articles, including from this website, often “ paint a picture of the crisis in Nicaragua that is dangerously misleading. ” Unfortunately, her own article does just that. It looks at the situation entirely from the perspective of those opposing Daniel Ortega’s government while whitewashing their malevolent behavior and downplaying the levels of US support they have relied on. Her piece is an incomplete depiction of what is happening on the ground, ignoring many salient facts that have come to light and which have been outdated by recent events. The following is a brief response to Ellsberg’s main points from someone who lives in Nicaragua and has observed the situation directly and intimately: https://grayzoneproject.com/2018/08/15/a-res...

Five reasons a war with Iran will mark the final fall of US empire

globinfo freexchange   1. The nature of war has changed dramatically since the Iraq war, due to technological developments. A ground invasion, especially against Iran, would be catastrophic for the US empire with unpredictable consequences, even if the regime-change mission successfully completed.  2. The Iran allies in the region are still active, despite their losses. This is connected with the first reason in a way because armed groups dispersed in the Middle-East and affiliated with Iran, can lead to an asymmetric, out-of-control conflict to the point where US forces may suddenly find themselves trapped in a wider deadly warzone with no exit. The new, relatively cheap technology of drones and small/middle range missiles, is easily accessible to these groups. The Ansar Allah group in Yemen, already demonstrated their ability to sabotage US military operations. 3. Iran is not Iraq. Not only due to its size and the fact that we live now in a very different period, but also be...
