Ποια ΜΜΕ συνεργάζονταν με τη Σαουδική Αραβία και συγκάλυπταν τα εγκλήματά της

Το Vice, αλλά και ο Independent, βρίσκονται ανάμεσα στα μέσα ενημέρωσης που κατηγορούνται για την προσπάθεια εξωραϊσμού της εικόνας του αιμοσταγούς βασιλείου της Σαουδικής Αραβίας.

Καθώς η δολοφονία του δημοσιογράφου Τζαμάλ Κασόγκι φέρνει (έστω και με καθυστέρηση) τα εγκλήματα της Σαουδικής Αραβίας στο προσκήνιο, αρκετοί άρχισαν να αναρωτιούνται σε ποια ΜΜΕ και συγκεκριμένους δημοσιογράφους κατέληγαν τα εκατομμύρια δολάρια που δαπανούσε το θεοκρατικό βασίλειο για να συγκαλύπτει τα εγκλήματά του.

Όπως είχαμε αναφέρει στο info-war από το 2017, το Ριάντ είχε ξεκινήσει μια γιγαντιαία επιχείρηση δημιουργώντας «σταθμούς» δημοσίων σχέσεων στο Λονδίνο, το Βερολίνο, το Παρίσι και τη Μόσχα, όπου διαφημιστές και «δημοσιοσχεσίτες» θα παρεμβαίνουν στα μέσα ενημέρωσης, αλλά και στα μέσα κοινωνικής δικτύωσης, για να βελτιώσουν την εικόνα της χώρας στο εξωτερικό.

Είχαμε επίσης αναφέρει ότι ο Βρετανός πρώην πρωθυπουργός Τόνι Μπλερ είχε λάβει τουλάχιστον 12 εκατομμύρια δολάρια για να συγκαλύπτει τα φρικτά εγκλήματα της Σαουδικής Αραβίας σε όλο τον κόσμο.

Όπως αποκαλύπτει τώρα η εφημερίδα Guardian, το γραφείο του Vice στο Λονδίνο είχε δημιουργήσει ειδική ομάδα που συνεργαζόταν με τον σαουδαραβικό εκδοτικό όμιλο SRMG σε παραγωγές για να προωθεί την εικόνα του βασιλείου. Ο SRMG είναι γνωστός για τις σχέσεις του με το υπουργείο εσωτερικών της Σαουδικής Αραβίας και θεωρείται ένα από τα βασικά εργαλεία που χρησιμοποιεί το Ριάντ για τις δημόσιες σχέσεις του σε όλο τον κόσμο.

Παλαιότερο ρεπορτάζ του Vice, στο οποίο η Σαουδική Αραβία εμφανιζόταν να απειλείται από «εξτρεμιστές σε γειτονικές χώρες», είχε μεταδώσει το 2016 και η τηλεόραση του ANT1. Οι δημοσιογράφοι του σχετικού ρεπορτάζ είχαν λάβει από το Ριάντ πρωτοφανή πρόσβαση στις φυλακές της Σαουδικής Αραβίας αλλά και στο εσωτερικό των ειδικών δυνάμεων της αντιτρομοκρατικής υπηρεσίας. Το επαναλαμβανόμενο μοτίβο του ρεπορτάζ ήταν ότι η Σαουδική Αραβία πληρώνει ακριβά τις σχέσεις τις με τις ΗΠΑ καθώς έχει μετατραπεί σε στόχο ισλαμιστών εξτρεμιστών και πως ο νέος πρίγκηπας επιχειρεί να καθαρίσει τον κρατικό μηχανισμό και το θεοκρατικό κατεστημένο από στοιχεία που στο παρελθόν ενδέχεται να ενίσχυαν τη διεθνή τρομοκρατία.

Θα πρέπει πάντως να σημειωθεί ότι το ελληνικό τμήμα του VICE είχε δημοσιεύσει και αρκετά επικριτικά κείμενα για τη Σαουδική Αραβία, συμπεριλαμβανομένων αναφορών στην προσπάθεια της κυβέρνησης ΣΥΡΙΖΑ-ΑΝΕΛ να πουλήσει όπλα στο Ριάντ εν μέσω της σφαγής που πραγματοποιεί στην Υεμένη.

Με τον όμιλο SRMG όμως θα συνεργαζόταν και η εφημερίδα Independent για την δημιουργία ιστοσελίδων στα αραβικά αλλά και τα τούρκικα και τα φαρσί – θα απευθυνόταν δηλαδή απευθείας σε δυο από τους βασικούς αντιπάλους της Σαουδικής Αραβίας στη Μέση Ανατολή.

Να σημειωθεί ότι αρκετά διεθνή μέσα ενημέρωσης, συμπεριλαμβανομένου και του Guardian, είχαν δεχθεί μεγάλα ποσά από τη Σαουδική Αραβία για να φιλοξενούν διαφημίσεις που προωθούσαν τις θέσεις του Ριάντ.

Την ίδια ώρα σκληρή κριτική δέχονται και συγκεκριμένοι δημοσιογράφοι και αναλυτές, όπως ο αποκαλούμενος «γκουρού του φιλελευθερισμού» Τόμας Φρίντμαν, για την προκλητική προώθηση των θέσεων της Σαουδικής Αραβίας σε σειρά κειμένων και δημοσίων ομιλιών του.
