Φάκελος Κύπρου: Οι Χουντικοί γνώριζαν για την εισβολή και έκαναν διακοπές

Μέρος 5ο - “Οι Αμερικάνοι μας κοροϊδεύουν”

Ο Χένρι Κίσιντζερ ήταν τότε ο απόλυτος κυρίαρχος της εξωτερικής πολιτικής των ΗΠΑ και θεωρούνταν “φιλότουρκος”. Σύμφωνα με τις πληροφορίες που έφθασαν, μέσω της Μ. Βρετανίας (Κάλλαχαν), στην Αθήνα “ο Κίσινγκερ ήτο απρόθυμος να ασκήσει πίεση επί της Τουρκίας προκειμένου να παρεμποδίσει την προέλαση των στρατευμάτων της στην Κύπρο”. Έτσι και η Μεγάλη Βρετανία που ήταν -και είναι- Εγγυήτρια Δύναμη της Κυπριακής Δημοκρατίας, είχε το πρόσχημα για να αποφύγει να αναλάβει τις ευθύνες της.

Οι ΗΠΑ, μέσω του Σίσκο που πηγαινοερχόταν μεταξύ Αθήνας και Άγκυρας είχαν ως βασικό τους μέλημα να αποφύγουν έναν γενικευμένο Ελληνοτουρκικό πόλεμο, που θα διέλυε τη ΝΑ πτέρυγα του ΝΑΤΟ σε μια εποχή που η Σοβιετική Ένωση ήταν ακόμη πανίσχυρη.

Έτσι οι ΗΠΑ παρακολουθούσαν και μεθόδευαν τις εξελίξεις στον αποδιοργανωμένο από τη Χούντα ελληνικό Στρατό, ώστε να μην είναι σε θέση να διεξαγάγει πόλεμο κατά της Τουρκίας. Οι Χουντικοί άρχισαν τότε να αντιλαμβάνονται πως “οι Αμερικάνοι μας κοροϊδεύουν”. Τους εκμεταλλεύτηκαν ως “χρήσιμους ηλίθιους” και πλέον τους εγκατέλειπαν. Δεν υπήρχε περίπτωση σθεναρής αντίστασης εκ μέρους της Ελλάδας κι έτσι “εθεώρησα επιβαλλομένην την ανακωχήν ως υπαγορευομένην υπό του υψίστου Εθνικού συμφέροντος πριν οι Τούρκοι αντιληφθούν την αμέσως ανωτέρω αναφερομένην κατάστασιν και πριν εξατμισθή η εντύπωσις εκ της μέχρι τότε σθεναράς αντιστάσεως” (Γεώργιος Μαύρος).

Πράγματι το State Department, στις 6.00΄ το πρωί της 22 Ιουλίου 1974 , ανακοίνωσε την είδηση για τη συμφωνία κατάπαυσης του πυρός σα να επρόκειτο για αναγγελία της Κυβέρνησης των ΗΠΑ!

Ακολούθησαν ανακοινώσεις από την Ελληνική και Τουρκική Κυβέρνηση. Η εκεχειρία ωστόσο αποδείχθηκε προσωρινή, ο ΑΤΤΙΛΑΣ Ι είχε βάλει το πόδι του στην τραυματισμένη Κύπρο, όπου αποβιβάστηκαν ισχυρές τουρκικές δυνάμεις και με την κατάληψη της Κυρήνειας επιτεύχθηκε η συνένωση του προγεφυρώματος με τον τουρκικό θύλακα της Λευκωσίας.

Το πρώτο στάδιο του τουρκικού σχεδίου πέτυχε. Θα ακολουθούσε σύντομα και το δεύτερο (ΑΤΤΙΛΑΣ ΙΙ), καθώς “αν υποχωρήσετε θα προβάλουν αμέσως μεγαλύτερη απαίτηση διότι θα δουν ότι και τώρα ενδώσατε στον φόβο” (Θουκιδίδης).
